One evening, I went out for a walk on the path (小路) near my house with my husband. On my finger was a very special ring with a diamond (钻石) that my grandmother gave me for my 23rd birthday. At the end of the path, when I looked down at it again and found the diamond was 1. I started back along the path hurriedly 2the tiny stone. In my heart, I knew it seemed impossible for me to find it. The path was very long and  3 with leaves. As I searched the ground, crying and upset, I met an old lady. "What's the matter, love ?" She asked kindly. I 4 about the missing diamond and showed her my ring. She said, "That's going to be hard to find. Tell me what, love, I walk along this path every day, I'll keep my eyes 5 for it." I thanked her, 6 nothing, but still told her that we sometimes walked our dog along the path if she might find something.

    A few days later, my husband and I met the old lady on the path. "Guess what?" She said, "I found your diamond!" To our7, she'd found the tiny stone and was willing to hand it back to me. "It was lucky that I found it." When we 8 her with some money for her help, she 9 politely. I was deeply moved. She could have easily kept the diamond, or sold it, for it's worth several thousand dollars, but she didn't.

    Every time I look at my ring and 10myself that there're kind and beautiful hearts in the world. I'll spend the rest of my life trying to do something like that.

    The Americans were getting ready to send their first man to the moon, an old Irishman (爱尔兰人) was 1 them on TV in a hotel room. There was an Englishman in the room 2.     Band practice had just ended. Jimmy and Ben started packing up their1. Before Kevin could put his trumpet into the box, he2a music stand. It fell and hit right on his trumpet.

   "Oh, no!" Kevin yelled.

    Jimmy picked up the trumpet and checked it3 before handing it to Kevin. "Well, it already has a lot of dents(凹痕). One more won't matter."

    "I know.  But it's my4," Kevin said. "And he's coming over this weekend."

    "Maybe he won't notice the dent," Jimmy said.

    "Hey, Kev. How're things?" Grandpa asked as he walked in.

    "Good." Kevin could have told him the8right then, but he froze.

    After dinner, Grandpa asked Kevin to play9classics—Ode to Joy and Oh, Susanna. Grandpa said, "I think you're 10 than I was at your age."

    Any other time, Grandpa's praise would have made Kevin feel great. But not this time. "I'm 11about the dent," he explained what had happened.

    To Kevin's surprise, Grandpa smiled, "Instruments become part of12when you play them a lot. You can't always protect them. The13thing is that you told me."

    Grandpa pointed to the scratches opposite the dent Kevin had made. "I got these when I fell over it14one night."

    "So I'm not the only clumsy(笨拙的)  one in the family?" Kevin said.

    Grandpa laughed, "Every dent and scratch can tell a story, and15you stick with it, someday you'll have your own."

    Grandpa handed the trumpet back to Kevin. "Now tell me a story with music."

    Kevin lifted the trumpet and filled the room with happy noise.

    A doctor entered the hospital in a hurry after being called in for an urgent 1. He answered the call as soon as possible, changed his clothes and went directly to the operation block.

    He found the boy's father 2 in the hall waiting for the doctor. On seeing him, the dad shouted, "Why did you take all the 3 to come? Don't you know that my son's life is in danger? Don't you have any sense of responsibility?"

    The doctor smiled and said, "I am sorry, I wasn't in the hospital and I 4 as fast as I could after receiving the call……And now, I wish you'd calm down 5 I can do my work."

    "Calm down? What if your son is in this room right now, would you calm down? If your own son is 6 now, what will you do?" said the father 7.

    The doctor smiled again and replied," I will say what Job said in the Bible 'From dust we came and to dust we return, blessed by the name of God'. 8 cannot extend (延伸) lives. Go and pray for your son. We will do our best by God's grace."

    "Giving advice when we're not concerned is so easy." murmured the father. The operation took some hours 9 the doctor went out happily.

    "Thank goodness! Your son is saved!" And without waiting for the father's reply, he carried on his 10 running. "If you have any question, ask the nurse!"

    "Why is he so 11? He couldn't wait some minutes so that I could ask about my son's 12?" commented the father when seeing the nurse minutes after the doctor left. The nurse answered, 13 coming down her face, "His son died yesterday in a road accident. He was in the funeral (葬礼) when we called him for your son's operation. 14 now that he saved your son's life, he left running to finish his son's funeral."

    Never 15 anyone easily because you never know how their life is and what they're experiencing.
