Some time ago, an old businessman had a large store in Boston. He wanted a boy to work for him, and he put an advertisement in the newspaper. The next morning, many boys came to the old man's office, asking for the job.

 There was a post(柱子)by his desk, and there was a nail(钉子）in it. He took a walking stick and said, "Everyone has three chances. If anyone can hit the nail on the head with this stick more than once, I will give him the job."The boys thought it was easy. They all tried, but nobody could make it. So the old man said, "I'm sorry I can't take any of you."And they left.

  He kept the advertisement in the paper, and the next morning many more boys came, and among them he saw a thin boy who had been there the day before. The boy hit the nail successfully for three times. The old man felt surprised and asked how he did that. "Yes," said the boy, "I failed yesterday, but I thought that if I kept on trying a while, I could do it. So I went home and practiced hitting a nail with a stick till I could do it, and I got up very early this morning, and tried again."

 The old man said, "You are the boy for me." And he gave him the job. Whatever the boy had to do, he tried to do his best. It was not very long before he became the best clerk in the store.

    The following are some project rules for the students of Sunshine Secondary School. 

    A Famous Building

    Build a model of a famous building. You can use wood, paper and glue but you mustn't use other things. You have to paint the model. Next class, you must describe your building but it doesn't have to be long.

    Musical Instruments

    You must make two musical instruments with plastic bottles. You can't use materials from toys or real instruments (乐器). In class, you have to play some music with the instruments for three minutes.

    A Short Film

    Make a film about your group. You can bring a video camera or a mobile phone from home. The film has to be in English. You can interview people in your group but their answers mustn't be long. You must play the film in class and introduce your group in three minutes.

    A Chopstick Plane

    You must make a plane with two chopsticks. You can use paper and glue but you can't use metal. You must test the plane in front of your teacher and your classmates in the playground. It has to fly for ten seconds.

Hi, David,

    Guess what? I'm writing to you from Beijing! It's my first summer holiday abroad, and here I'm in China! I'm going to learn Chinese for two weeks at a summer camp. Then my parents are going to join me here. I plan to spend another two weeks here and go on a tour around the country with them. It's going to be very exciting! We're going to visit the Great Wall and the Palace Museum in Beijing. Then we're going to be in Xi'an from July 24th to 27th. My dad says he's going to take lots of photos of the Terracotta Warriors. After that, we're going to Jiuzhaigou. It's famous for its beautiful mountains and clear lakes. Our last stop on the trip is Sanya. My mum's going to spend lots of time on the beach, but I'm going to swim in the sea every day.

    OK, I have to go. I'm going to meet my Chinese penfriend, Daming. He's going to take me to the Bird's Nest tonight. There's going to be a rock concert there. I can't wait!

    Being healthy means a person eats well, gets a lot of exercise, and has a healthy weight. Here are some rules for a kid who wants to be healthy. Try your best to follow the rules.

    Eat All Kinds of Food

    You may have your favorite food, but the best choice is to eat all kinds of food. If you eat different food, you are able to get the things your body needs.

    Drink Water and Milk

    When you're really thirsty, cold water is the best. And there's a reason some schools offer milk. Kids need calcium to build strong body, and milk is a great choice.

    Listen to Your Body

    When you're eating, notice how your body feels and whether（是否）your stomach feels comfortably full. Sometimes people eat too much because they don't notice when they need to stop eating. Eating too much can make you feel uncomfortable.

    Limit（限制）Screen Time

    What's screen time? It's the amount of time you spend watching TV, playing video games and using the computer. The more time spend on these sitting-down activities, the less time for active exercise.

    I can still remember my first day at school. I was only 6 years old at that time. It was a very big room. I sat at the desk near the window, but I couldn't see anything because the window was too high. There was a big map of the world on the wall and an old blackboard. I don't think I was worried or afraid at that time. There was another little boy next to me. He sat there and kept silent at first. Then he began to cry, because he didn't want to stay there.

    More and more students came in, but the boy didn't stop crying. "Mom, I want to go home." He cried again and again. Later, the teacher came in. She went to the little boy, and said something to him. I couldn't hear what she said. Soon the boy stopped crying and began to smile. To this day, I still don't know what the teacher said to the little boy.
