One day a fisherman called Peter went fishing in his small boat.{#blank#}1{#/blank#} reaching a good place he knew, he{#blank#}2{#/blank#} ( lay) down his long line into the water. After a while,{#blank#}3{#/blank#} became very heavy. It seemed too heavy to be a fish. He began to draw in{#blank#}4{#/blank#}line.

    When the hooks began to come out of the water, he was quite {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(surprise), for the hooks were holding the links of a heavy gold chain.  When he pulled them into the boat, more and more links appeared. Soon his boat was full of the {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(shine) links of the gold chain.

    “I shall be rich, ” he said. “{#blank#}7{#/blank#}money I shall buy a new fishing boat with an engine. I shall buy a big house.”

    He drew in more chain{#blank#}8{#/blank#}he couldn't see the end of it. There was more and more of the heavy gold chain in the boat. He was so greedy that he didn't notice {#blank#}9{#/blank#} was happening to his boat. It was sinking{#blank#}10{#/blank#}(low) into the water than before. In the end Peter was drowned. He lost the gold, his boat and his life.

    The first foreign language I studied was French, and I learnt it at a secondary school between the ages of 11 and 18. It was a compulsory subject for the first three years and I{#blank#}1{#/blank#} (choose) to continue studying it afterwards because I enjoyed it, found it {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (interest) and was quite good at it. Outside class I practiced {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(listen) to the French language radio and reading French books.

    Before going to university, I spent three months working on {#blank#}4{#/blank#}farm in southern France. This helped me become pretty fluent{#blank#}5{#/blank#} French and acquire a rich farming-related vocabulary.

    My French has also been {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(help) on holiday on Morocco and Portugal. French {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (use) as a second language in Morocco and in other countries quite a few people speak French in places {#blank#}8{#/blank#}a lot of tourists visit.

    In September 2009 I joined a couple of French conversation {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(group) in Bangor and I have been going to them ever since. It has resulted in my{#blank#}10{#/blank#}(improve) in my spoken French.

    Now I can still speak French fluently and can also read it well, but my written French is not so good.

    Longjing tea, {#blank#}1{#/blank#} has topped the list of the ten most famous teas in China with Nits color, taste and shape, {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (name) after its production region-Longjing Village of West Lake. The good environment and water resources have contributed much to the {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(grow) of the tea, confirming the saying that "Longjing tea is the {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (good) among all of the teas in the world".

    Thanks {#blank#}5{#/blank#} Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty, the tea has earned a high reputation. The story went that Emperor Qianlong visited the mountain during his Hangzhou travels, and he saw some ladies picking the tea at {#blank#}6{#/blank#} foot of the mountain. He was so interested in their movements that he decided to have a go himself While {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(pick) the tea, he received the news of his mother's illness, so he carelessly put the leaves in his right sleeve and{#blank#}8{#/blank#}(leave) Hangzhou for Beijing. He visited his mother {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (immediate) upon his arrival in Beijing, and his mother smelt the fragrance of the tea leaves from his sleeves and wanted to have a taste. After drinking a cup of tea, she found herself completely {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (refresh), and she even praised it as a cure for all ills. From then on, it was listed as the tribute tea.

    China's most famous wall may have been built to keep people away, but a new kind of wall is bringing people a lot {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (close) together.

    On January 29, hooks and hangers appeared on the side of a Qingdao building under the words: "If you need it, take it." This "wall of {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (kind)", the creation of local charity Chuangyi Workshop, {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (invite) passers­by to leave their spare warm clothes and encourages those {#blank#}4{#/blank#} are in need to take them.

    "It is just like what you do at home. You hang your clothes when you get home. You take them down {#blank#}5{#/blank#} put them on when you go out," said Wang Lei, director of Chuangyi Workshop. {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (inspire) by a similar plan in Iran, she put it into practice in China as the country experienced {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (it) coldest winter in decades.

    Many such walls have also appeared in several other Chinese {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (city). This simple way of helping people is now making a big difference to society.

    Benjamin West, the father of American painting, showed his talent for art when he was only six years of age. But he did not know about brushes before {#blank#}1{#/blank#} visitor told him he needed one. In those days, a brush was made from camel's hair. There were no camels nearby. Benjamin decided that cat hair would work instead. He cut some fur from the family cat {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (make) a brush.

    The brush did not last long. Soon Benjamin needed more fur. Before long, the cat began to look ragged(蓬乱). His father said that the cat {#blank#}3{#/blank#} be sick. Benjamin {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (force) to admit what he had been doing.

    The cat's lot was about to improve. That year, one of Benjamin's cousins, Mr. Pennington, came to visit. He also sent six engravings(版画)by an artist. {#blank#}6{#/blank#} were the first pictures and first real paint and brushes Benjamin had even seen. In 1747, when Benjamin was nine years old, Mr. Pennington returned for another visit. He was amazed at {#blank#}7{#/blank#} Benjamin had done with his gift. He asked Benjamin's parents {#blank#}8{#/blank#} he might take the boy to Philadelphia for a visit.

    In the city, Mr. Pennington gave Benjamin materials for creating oil paintings. The boy began a landscape painting. William Williams, a well-known painter, came to see him work. Williams was impressed with Benjamin and gave him two classic books on painting to take home. The books were long and dull. Benjamin could read only a little, {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (be) a poor student. But he later said, “Those two books were my companions by day, and {#blank#}10{#/blank#} my pillow at night." While it is likely that he understood very little of the books, they were his introduction to classical paintings. The nine-year-old boy decided then that he would be an artist.
