It was Mother's Day and I was shopping at the local supermarket with my five-year-old son,Tenyson.As we were1,we realized that only minutes earlier an2woman had fallen over at the entrance and hit her head on the ground3was with her, but there was blood everywhere and the woman was embarrassed and clearly in shock4,a lot of people stopped to help out.5we were walking towards the scene, Tenyson became very6about what had happened to the elderly couple.     The man bent down and gave his wife the flower, telling her who it was from18being badly hurt,the old lady looked up at Tenyson with19in her eyes and gave him a little20

    Little Amy, a six-year-old kid, arrived home when her parents were talking about her little brother. All she knew was that he was very sick and they had no money left. When she heard her daddy say to her1mother with whispered desperation, ＂2a miracle can save him now＂, the little girl went to her bedroom and took out her piggy bank. She3all the change out and counted it carefully. Then she 4her way six blocks to the drugstore.

    In the shop was a 10customer. He stooped(弯腰) down and asked the little girl, ＂What kind of miracle does your brother 11?＂ ＂I don't know,＂ she replied. ＂He's really sick and mommy says he needs12. But my daddy can't pay for it, so I have brought my13.＂

    ＂How much do you have?＂ asked the man. ＂One dollar and eleven cents, 14I can try and get some more,＂ she answered quietly. ＂Well, what a coincidence,＂ smiled the man. ＂A dollar and eleven cents — the 15price of a miracle for your little brother. 16me to where you live. I want to see your brother and 17your parents.＂

    That well-dressed man was Dr Carlton Armstrong, a surgeon(外科医生). The operation was completed without 18and it wasn't long before Andrew was 19again and doing well.

    The little girl was happy. She knew exactly how much the miracle cost ... one dollar and eleven cents ... plus the 20of a little child.

    Last year, I was lucky enough to work at an office near my mother's house.1, I stayed with her for a month. During that time, I 2 her out with the housework and contributed to the groceries.

There Really Was a Santa Claus

    Ann worked for a big company. One of the duties of her 1 was to go to the post office every day and 2 the company mail. One day in December, she 3 a beggar making himself up as a Santa Claus 4 on the corner of the street. Each day she 5 her coins and dropped them in his bowl. He would smile and 6 her a Merry Christmas.

    At night the temperature dropped below 0℃, but the Santa Clause 7 stood in the cold wind. 8 she dropped her coins into his bowl, she handed him a pair of gloves.

    That evening, she told her husband about her colleague's 16, "I know we don't have much money to 17, but I'd like to give her fifty or a hundred dollars. We'll just get ourselves less this year. Last year we couldn't 18 to buy anything for ourselves but we still had a wonderful Christmas." Her husband smiled, "Give her one hundred dollars. She needs it more than we do."

    She reached up and held him. Warmth spread 19 her body. He held her and realized that 20 really was a Santa Claus — and he had married her!

    Experts say boredom is good for kids. It forces them to be creative, 1 their imaginations, and helps them discover new things. A(n) 2 in point is 13-year-old Luke Thrill from Dubuque, Iowa.
