When I settled in Chicago, my new city seemed so big and unfriendly. Then I had a 1 problem and had to go to hospital for a 2 examination.

    It seemed a small 3 compared to the one I was about to face, but things started to go 4 right from the beginning. Not having a car or 5 the city, I was depending on the buses to get me from A to B. 6 I'd left myself plenty of time, soon it was 7 I was going to be late, because I had mistakenly boarded a bus that was taking me in the 8 direction.

    I 9 the bus and stood on the road not knowing what to do. I looked into the eyes of a 10, who was trying to get past me. 11, instead of moving on, she stopped to ask if I was 12.     Such unexpected 19 from a passer-by was a lovely gift to receive. As I climbed out of the car at the hospital and turned to thank her, she smiled and told me not to lose 20, for all things are possible.

    Whenever I felt disappointed I often thought of what my mother had said to me, "Everything happens for the best. If you1, one day something good will happen. And you'll realize that it wouldn't have happened but for that previous2. "

    As it3, mother was right. In 1932, I ended my college life.4that, I had decided to try for a job in radio, and then could work my way up to a sports5. I went to Chicago and knocked on the door of every6－but got turned down every time. In one studio, a7lady told me that big stations couldn't risk hiring a person who lacked8. "Go to9 town and find a little station that will give you a chance," she said. I then10to Dixon. While there was no radio-announcing jobs in Dixon, my father said Montgomery Ward had opened a store and wanted an athlete to11its sports department. Since Dixon was where I had played high school football, I12. The job sounded just right for me. But I wasn't 13.

    My disappointment must have 14. "Everything happens for the best," Mom 15me. Then I 16WOC Radio in Davenport. The program director named Peter MacArthur told me they had already17a contract with another announcer.

    As I left his office, my disappointment18over. I asked aloud, "How can a fellow become a sport announcer if he can't get a job in a radio station?"

    I was waiting for the lift when I heard MacArthur calling, "What was that you said about sports? You know something about football?" Then he stood me before a 19and asked me to broadcast a live game.

    I often20what direction my life might have taken if I'd gotten the job at Montgomery Ward and if I didn't persist.

    I was about to get on a plane after a trip. Honestly speaking, the trip was very 1 and exhausting. To make things worse, I had a middle seat in Zone 5, where they 2 the baggage because there wasn't much room in the overhead bins (行李架).

    I had to ask the flight attendant if I could 3 my seat. Trying to be 4, she asked if I was willing to sit in an exit row. "Yes, sure!" I 5 responded, full of hope. But a moment later, she told me that row might not be 6. I could only accept the reality.

    Suddenly I heard her offer two seats in the exit row 7 a young couple next to me. I was filled with 8 that I was ready to get up and 9 with her. I wondered how she could 10 me and then go to help others. I was about to shout at her, 11 my good sense won. For that belief moment, I tried to comfort myself. "If you are impatient, you'll make a 12 of yourself." Then though I was still annoyed, I managed to 13.

    With about 5 minutes to board, when I was worried about how to keep my 14, the attendant handed a new ticket to me. "Is this for the 15 seat?" I asked. "No, it isn't," she responded. "Once in a while I'm able to do this and I'm glad it has 16 this time." glanced down—business class, Seat 2F—no charge! I was very 17 for that and I felt relived that I had 18 my anger. I do know even if I shouted at the attendant, she would 19 try hard to help me, because she seemed very responsible. Now I realize that it is always important to show 20 and understanding for others in life.

In high school I was very shy, content to hang around with my small group of friends and concentrate on my courses. I was quickly regarded as a "brain". I did so well that by the end of the senior year I had perfect grades and enough credits to give up an entire quarter of coursework.

But in early June of the senior year, the principal called me into his office. He asked me to give a speech at graduation. I gaped(目瞪口呆地凝视) at him, my heart thumping. This was the reward for my hard work? I mumbled something and fled the office, blaming myself for staying away from physics, a subject sure to have ruined my perfect record.

I finally agreed to a compromise. I would share the honour with five other students. And my friend Judy would then give her own, full-length speech.

The graduation day soon arrived. I'd been practising my speech for days, and I had it memorised. The first half hour of the ceremony passed in a blur, and then my moment came. My name was announced. I managed to reach the platform without falling down. I faced my classmates. My voice trembled a little, but mostly it was clear and strong. But within seconds, I was done and headed back to my seat. I accomplished something I'd never dreamed of—I spoke in front of hundreds of people.

Although I didn't realise it at the time, the successful completion of that speech gave me the confidence to participate in class at college, to give verbal reports, and to eventually break free from my shyness. I would never have chosen to give a speech at graduation ever. But I'm glad I did. I no longer hesitate when I'm faced with the prospect of doing something I dread. I know it may very well turn out to be one of my shining moments.

Juleus Ghunta is an award-winning children's author, but growing up, he could barely 1 . Raised by a single mother, who often had to make 2 choices about how to use their limited resources－including a decision to send his oldest sister to school, he had been kept home and had no 3 to books as a child.

When Ghunta finally got the opportunity to attend school, he couldn't 4 words, spell, or read with understanding. The situation was made worse by a series of teachers who made him feel 5 . "They were not very patient, not very kind," he said, "I suffered from a deep sense of loss and shame."

Fortunately, a young teacher decided to start a reading program for 6 students. Ghunta was the first to sign up. "The teacher was 7 kind to me." he said, "She had left me with the gift of literacy, and a deeper appreciation of my value as a human being." Under her patient 8 , Ghunta's reading skills gradually improved, and his sense of inadequacy (不足) began to 9 .

After interacting with the young teacher, Ghunta's life took a new 10 . He graduated from high school with a number of academic awards, and went on to college successfully. Nowadays, he is the author of two children's books about 11 difficult experiences in childhood.

In 2010, Ghunta went back to his old school to 12 his old teacher's name, but in vain. However, he still hopes to 13 her one day, so that he can thank her for seeing his 14 . "I would love for her to see the significant impact she has made on my life, and the ways in which I have carried this 15 of her－the hope, the light, with me－and how it continues to be a source of joy."

The Ocean of Stars，a symphony（交响乐） concert by Suzhou Symphony Orchestra，was staged at the Jinji Lake Concert Hall in Suzhou，Jiangsu Province，on July 15，2023. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} part of the ongoing Hua Xia Music Festival hosted by Suzhou Symphony Orchestra，the concert {#blank#}2{#/blank#} （ conduct） by Chen Xieyang，featuring famous pianist Wu Chun.Chinese music {#blank#}3{#/blank#} （ work），including The Ocean of Stars and Mulan Psalm，all by Chinese composer Guan Xia，were performed. 

The orchestra teamed up with Suzhou Silk Museum，presenting a modern show，which saw musicians of the orchestra wearing and showing {#blank#}4{#/blank#} （ tradition） Chinese silk clothes at the Jinji Lake Concert Hall.Started by conductor Chen，artistic director of the orchestra，the two-week Hua Xia Music Festival， {#blank#}5{#/blank#} was in the third year，aimed at {#blank#}6{#/blank#} （ promote）Chinese music works. 

Suzhou Symphony Orchestra also announced {#blank#}7{#/blank#} （ it） 2023-2024 season on July 15，which would close in July 2024.It was the orchestra's {#blank#}8{#/blank#} （eight） season，which gathered music artists with {#blank#}9{#/blank#} average age of 30 years old from around the world. 

The year 2023 marked the 65th anniversary of foreign relations between China and Algeria.It was the first time the orchestra {#blank#}10{#/blank#} （ perform） in Africa at the 13th International Classical Music Festival in Algiers，Algeria.
