Happiness means different things to different people. For Mary, who has {#blank#}1{#/blank#} severe sleeping problem, happiness is as simple as having a good night's sleep.

    Bed was once a place {#blank#}2{#/blank#} Mary went to rest after a long, hard day. {#blank#}3{#/blank#}, she has not had a full night's sleep in almost six months. Her doctor said that{#blank#}4{#/blank#}(count) sheep might help her fall asleep. She tried this, but soon got tired of it after it failed to work. She finds the nights without sleep almost {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(bear) . She is always sleepy and lacks energy during the day.

    Mary is not alone. Studies show that more than one in three people worldwide struggle with getting enough sleep. It often takes on different {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(form) : some people can get to sleep, but wake up much too early; some get a full night's sleep, but are {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(disappoint)  to find that they still feel tired when they wake up; others, like Mary, find {#blank#}8{#/blank#} difficult to fall asleep in the first place.

    Specialists say that people should not worry too much about this problem. In most cases, a lack of sleep {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(cause) by anxiety and pressure. It is important to keep yourself {#blank#}10{#/blank#} good spirits and to be positive. 

    The art of paper-cutting in China may date back to the second century, since paper{#blank#}1{#/blank#}(invent)by Cai Lun in the Eastern Han Dynasty in China. As paper became more affordable, paper0cutting became one of the most important{#blank#}2{#/blank#}(type) of Chinese folk art. Later,{#blank#}3{#/blank#} different regions adopting their own cultural styles, this art form spread to other parts of the world.{#blank#}4{#/blank#} (usual), the artworks are made of red paper, as red is associated with{#blank#}5{#/blank#}(happy) in Chinese culture, but other colors are also used.

    With{#blank#}6{#/blank#}(it) long history, paper-cutting,{#blank#}7{#/blank#}originated in China, has been very popular among the ordinary Chinese people. People put up papercuts on walls, windows and doors at wedding ceremonies or festivals {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(strengthen) the cheerful atmosphere.

    Chinese papercuts are rich in content. The auspicious（吉祥的）designs symbolize good luck and the avoidance of evil. The child, lotus and bat designs suggest a family with{#blank#}9{#/blank#}large number of children and grandchildren. Birds, livestock, fruit, fish and worms are also familiar objects{#blank#}10{#/blank#}(accept) by Chinese farmers. In a word, papercuts used in different occasions have different meanings.

    Once upon a time a very strong woodcutter asked for a job in a timber merchant(木材商), and he got it. The pay was {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(real) good and so were the work conditions.  {#blank#}2{#/blank#} that reason, the woodcutter was determined to do {#blank#}3{#/blank#} best. His boss gave him an axe and showed him the area, {#blank#}4{#/blank#} he was supposed to work. The first day, the woodcutter {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (bring) 18 trees. "Congratulations," the boss said. "Go on that way". Very {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(motivate) by the boss's words, the woodcutter tried harder the next day, {#blank#}7{#/blank#} he could only bring 15 trees. The third day he tried even harder. But he could only bring 10 trees. Day after day he was bringing less and less trees. "I must be losing my {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(strong), " the woodcutter thought. He went to the boss and apologized, {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(say) that he could not understand what was going on. "When was the last time you sharpened your axe? " the boss asked. "Sharpen? I had no time to sharpen my axe. I have been very busy {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(try) to cut trees. "

This is where my kids grew up

    For years now, I've been wanting to sell our home, the place where my husband and I raised our kids. But to me, this house is more than just a building. In the front room, there's a wall that has hundreds of pencil lines. Every growth stage {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(mark) in pencils, with each child's name and the date.

    Of all the objects and all the memories, it's this one thing in a home that's {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(hard) to leave behind. Our kids grow in so many ways, but the wall is physical evidence of their progress. Friends I know have visited their previous home only {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(discover) their wall of heights has been freshly painted over. Over the years, I've talked about how much I would hate leaving that wall behind when I moved, {#blank#}4{#/blank#} the last marks were made 10 years ago when my kids stopped growing. So one day, while I was at work, my children decided to do {#blank#}5{#/blank#} about it.

    They hired Jacquie Manning, a professional photographer {#blank#}6{#/blank#} work is about capturing the beautiful things in life. She came to our house while I was at work, and over several hours, {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(take) photos of the hundreds of drawings and lines, little grey fingerprints, and old marks. Somehow, she managed to photograph {#blank#}8{#/blank#} we had experienced in all those years. Afterwards, she put all the photos together into one image, {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(transform) them into a beautiful history of my family.

    Three weeks later, my children's wonderful gift made its way to me —{#blank#}10{#/blank#} life-size photo of the pencil lines and fingerprints that represents entire lifetimes of love and growth.

Linqing City is connected to Beijing, over 400 kilometers away, through its tribute(贡品) bricks. Linqing tribute bricks, or Gong Bricks, were transported to the country's capital through the Grand Canal for the {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (construct) of historical buildings like the Forbidden City. Local people call the type of brick a legend {#blank#}2{#/blank#} flows from the Grand Canal. This "legend" {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(list) as an example of national cultural heritage on June 14, 2008.

Linqing sits at the confluence (交汇处) of the Weihe River and the Grand Canal, making transportation very {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(convenience) .

During the Ming and Qing (1368-1912) dynasties, Linqing was a large important city {#blank#}5{#/blank#}a population of over one million. Linging tribute bricks earned their reputation during the Ming Dynasty, when they were {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(wide) used for imperial buildings. Apart from the transport links, the quality of the brick is one factor to make {#blank#}7{#/blank#}famous.

The "Lianhua" soil in Linging is {#blank#}8{#/blank#}ideal raw material for bricks. The city is located in the plain of the Yellow River. So when the Yellow River floods, there will always be a layer of fine sandy soil {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(cover) the local soil. Over time, a layer of sandy soil and a layer of clay will form an overlapping structure, known as "Lianhua". Linging tribute bricks {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(make) of this soil will not be out of shape easily.
