In some ways American families are very different from Chinese ones, but in other ways they are the{#blank#}1{#/blank#}. For example, American families enjoy family dinners, support and love each other just as Chinese families do.{#blank#}2{#/blank#} many Chinese students are surprised to learn that American teenagers are allowed to make many{#blank#}3{#/blank#}on their own, and the parents want their children to leave home at eighteen, because they think their children have grown {#blank#}4{#/blank#} This is different from China.

    In most American families, children are encouraged to make their own {#blank#}5{#/blank#}at a young age. They start with small choices and gradually larger ones{#blank#}6{#/blank#}they graduate(毕业) from high school. Parents and family will help{#blank#}7{#/blank#} the choice, but the children themselves make the final decision.

    Americans seldom move back into family homes {#blank#}8{#/blank#}they get older. Instead, they {#blank#}9{#/blank#}to have their own lives. It is important to remember that these are cultural(文化的){#blank#}10{#/blank#}, and that Americans see this as part of the culture.

    Car Free Day encourages drivers {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (give) up their cars for a day to protect the environment. People from all over the world get together in the streets {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (remind) the world that we don't have to accept the society full of cars. It was started by 34 cities first in France on September 22, 1998.And gradually(渐渐地) September 22nd {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (be) Car Free Day since then. The first Car Free Day in China was in Chengdu in 2000.The slogan for the day is "If we drive for one less day, we{#blank#}4{#/blank#} (have) one more nice day."

    Organized activities {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (hold) in many cities on Car Free Day every year. In Brussels, Car Free Day shall be valid(有效的) for everybody except persons with a special permit(许可证), but they have to slow down the speed of {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (drive) to 30 kilometers per hour. The public transportation is encouraged. The streets are open only to walkers, bicycles and buses from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm. In Beijing, it asks drivers to leave their cars at home for one day each month and walk or ride a bike to work. More and more people {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (take) part in the activities now. In the first quarter of this year, Beijing only {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (have) a few blue sky days and you could see the haze(雾霾) almost every day! We must do more for Car Free Day as a Beijing driver said, "We may not change the weather, but we can choose not to drive." But we do not want just one day and then a return to "normal" life. We should go on with Car Free Day.
