Winter is cold in some places. Many plants do not grow during the winter. Some plants even die. Snow and ice may cover the ground, {#blank#}1{#/blank#} it can be hard for animals to find food during the winter. Animals get through the time {#blank#}2{#/blank#} many ways.

    Birds and butterflies can fly. Many of them leave {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (they) homes for somewhere warm. Then they come home next spring. We call this migration, which is {#blank#}4{#/blank#} good way to avoid the cold.

    Another good way to avoid the cold is {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (sleep) through it. Many animals hide and sleep during the winter. They slow down and use very little energy. They do not eat and they live off their fat (脂肪). They do this until food {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (return). We call this hibernation. Snakes, frogs and bears hibernate.

    Some animals store food in their homes. They live on {#blank#}7{#/blank#} they stored in the summer and fall. This is what squirrels do.

    Other {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (animal) tough it out (挺过去). They neither leave {#blank#}9{#/blank#} hide. Some of them grow {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (thick) coats in the winter than other time. Some of them change colour. The Arctic fox is brown in the summer and White in the winter.

    Many students have hobbies, like reading, painting and looking{#blank#}1{#/blank#}animals. Some hobbies are relaxing and others are creative. Hobbies can make you {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(grow) as a person, develop your interests and help you learn new skills.

    David Smith is a student, and his hobby {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(be) writing. During the summer of 2011, he spent four weeks on a summer camp. As well as the usual activities, such{#blank#}4{#/blank#} sailing, climbing and mountain biking, there was a writing workshop with a professional writer. "She asked us {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(imagine) that we were in a story. Then we wrote about our experiences at the camp."

    In senior high school David{#blank#}6{#/blank#}(write)a book about teenage life. Many teenagers love his book, and as a result, David has become a {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(success) young writer.

    David has been very lucky because his hobby has brought enjoyment and success to {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (he), but he is also interested in many other things. "I like playing volleyball, too," says David. "I spend some of my free time {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(play) volleyball for my school team. Maybe I'll write more books in the future,{#blank#}10{#/blank#} I'm not sure."

    There are many other interesting things to do in life, and we should try to do something new or different.
