Lisa's weekly housework

Lisa's parent want her to do some housework every day. They don't want Lisa to depend on them too much. Lisa can learn some life skills (技能)and get some pocket money at the same time. Let's see what housework Lisa does in a week. 

John is a student who keeps the phone with him all the time. His dad thinks he is addicted (上瘾的) to the phone, but John doesn't think so. They write to each other.

For most human history, the stars sh one brightly in a dark night sky. But today, with many man- made lights, it is difficult for us to watch some wonderful sights: stars, planets and even galaxies(星系). This is in fact a kind of light pollution.

According to scientific research, you can see about 2,500 stars without using any special tools. But because of light pollution, you can only see 200 to 300 stars from the countryside, and no more than 10 stars from a city. In most big cities, people cannot see stars like they did in their childhood.

The main reasons of more brightness of the night sky are industrialization(工业化) and the growing use of outdoor LEDs, which are much brighter than traditional lighting. It brings a lot of bad results. Scientists find it hard to see the stars and planets. And too much light might make birds lose their ways at night. Some insects(昆虫) often fly towards light and may knock into buildings and lose lives. Sometimes light pollution makes us have sleeping problems.

Small actions, big changes. To stop things from going worse, we should use the right amount(数量) of light, in the right place and at the right time. Using yellow- colored light instead of white light, shining lights down at the ground instead of up into the sky are also helpful. We'd better remind people around us to help cut down light pollution as well.

Hopefully, in the near future, humans can enjoy the beauty of the night sky again and all wildlife will live a peaceful life!

It was just after the fourth of July that my twin sister Grace and I were playing on the beach near Grandparents' house. The sky was as clear as the water. I saw Mum coming toward us with her camera and a Santa's hat. 

"I'm glad Mum's taking our Christmas picture now, so we don't have to get it done at a studio this year, " Grace said. 

The Christmas picture is a big deal in our house. Mum prints the photo on the Christmas cards. Mum says that sharing her"angels" at Christmas is one of her greatest holiday joys. In fact, in the year we were born, Mum dressed us to look like angels and stuck feathery wings to our backs. Grace and I, in every Christmas photo, tried to smile as we stood uncomfortably in scratchy (扎人的) dresses. It's a little embarrassing when our family and friends talk about it every year. 

When Mum printed last year's photo and I saw the expression on my face, I said, "Next time, maybe  ▲  so our smiles look real. "

"We're always happy in our bathing suits at the beach, " Grace pointed out. 

So Mum agreed to try a beach photo this year. That's why we were there. 

After a while, Grandpa came over. "What are you girls up to?"

"Making a snowman for the photo, "I said. 

I had an idea. I asked Grandpa to lie in the sand, "Come on, Grace. Let's cover him!"

"Bottle caps for buttons(纽扣) and sticks for arms, " said Grace. 

 We made sand around Grandpa's head and his body. He made a fine"snowman". 

"Mum, come quick!" I said. 

But before Mum could take the picture, Grandpa jumped up and shouted, running to ward the sea. Mum laughed and took a picture of that, but it was not the picture we were hoping for!

I felt a raindrop. "It looked like another year of scratchy dresses with smiles not true, " disappointedly I threw myself back onto the wet sand. It felt scratchy against my sunburned back, like those holiday dresses. Then I began to plow the sand with my arms and legs, just like doing star jumps lying down. 

"Mum, come look!"I shouted. 

"A sand angel! Good idea, Caroline!" She took a photo. Grace threw on the Santa hat and lay next to me. Our arms and legs moved up and down. "Keep going. Great! I got it!" said Mum. She smiled with pride…

We finished our Christmas cards the day after Thanksgiving that year. Below the photo, I wrote, "Smiling Angels in the Snow!"

Students learn their lessons in class. They sit in the classroom and listen to their teachers. This is a common（常见的） way of learning. 

Is this the only way for students to learn something? Of course not. There is another way to learn—you can teach yourself. For example, if you cannot remember what you learn at school when you are doing your homework, what can you do? You can look at your books. This is a way to teach yourself, and it is not a difficult thing. You can do this at any place and at any time. 

How do you teach yourself? First，you must read. Read something you want to read, or you have to read. Second, you must ask yourself questions. The questions are something you don't understand or you want to know about. You can write down these questions. A clever student is also good at asking questions. Third, you must answer the questions yourself by thinking hard, by reading books and sometimes by asking other people. These are the ways of teaching yourself. If you work like this for a long time, you are sure to be more successful（成功的） in your study.
