The Monkey King

    The Monkey King was born from a stone. He wanted to live forever. He was really intelligent and knew what to do. ⑶他能够把他自己变成72种不同的东西, like a tree, a bird or an insect(昆虫). While he was changing himself, people just watched and couldn't believe it. He used the clouds in the sky   ⑷   around! One time he flew 108,000 miles on a cloud.

    The trouble was, the monkey thought he was the king. But he wasn't. The Emperor was. So, the real king decided to give the monkey a title(官职)to keep him quiet. ⑸But the monkey found out that everyone was laughing at him. He was extremely unhappy and decided to fight.  At last, the Emperor asked Buddha(佛) for help.

    The Buddha moved a great mountain to fall on top of him. As the mountain was falling on him, he nearly managed(设法) to get out of the way. He didn't, but he didn't die, either. The trouble was he couldn't move. Five hundred years later ,a monk(和尚) helped the monkey get out from under the mountain. That's when the real story began. You must remember it, don't you? It's a treat story.

    Eric and Doris King Turner are packing their bags for New Zealand. They're busy deciding what to pack and what to leave behind in Britain and are making plans to extend their new home in Nelson. Doris is looking forward to getting the garden into shape and Eric has his heart set on a spot of fly fishing. The difference is that Eric is 102, Doris is 87. Eric thinks he's Britain's oldest emigrant.

    In January next year Eric King Turner and his wife of 12 years will wave goodbye to their neighbors, and set sail from Southampton on the voyage of a lifetime. The ocean liner(远洋客轮)Saga Rose will take six weeks to get to Auckland and the couple are expecting a red-carpet welcome from family.

    Doris was born in New Zealand but gave up her homeland when the couple met and married in the late 1990s. But New Zealand is close to both their hearts and the attraction of family and friends, and the good fishing helped to persuade them to move.

    Doris, who has five children and nine grandchildren, supported her husband's application to settle in New Zealand. The paperwork took five months. Eric says." We not only had to produce a marriage certificate(证书)but we had to produce evidence that we were in a long and stable relationship! "He also said he was not asked about his age but had to show that he could support himself financially(财政上)in New Zealand.

    "I like New Zealand. The way of life is very much the same as it is here but it is not so crowded. "His wife has always been" a little bit homesick" but has never complained. Now the couple are in the middle of the task of sorting out possessions and selling their flat.

    One Monday morning, I was waiting at the bus stop in Harvard Square. It was very cold, about -8℃. I just missed the bus, so I had to stand there on such a cold day, waiting for the next bus to go to the hospital. My mind was full of anxiety. "Why didn't I leave two minutes earlier?" "What would go wrong with my husband's operation (手术)?" "Will I get to him before it starts?"

    Among the others at the bus stop was a woman who was about 50 years old. She wore an old hat, an old pair of boots and a dark coat, but she had no gloves (手套). Another woman who looked younger came to the older woman and said, "Your hands must be very cold. You will get frostbite (生冻疮) in this weather if you don't wear gloves." With these words, she dropped her heavy bag to the ground. After a while, she took out a pair of purple gloves from her bag, took the older woman's hands and gently placed a glove on each hand. "Thank you. You're so kind." The old woman said again and again.

    I was deeply moved (感动) by this act of kindness. A moment ago, I was feeling sorry for myself, but now I felt hopeful and optimistic (乐观). I thought in this world there were still many people in trouble who were in great need of our help.

    A few days later, I went to buy 5 pairs of bright purple gloves in a shop and put them in my bag, just in case (以防) I might run into someone in need on a cold day.

    "I am a selfish child.

    I hope the sunshine lies only upon me, so I can feel its warmth.

I am a selfish child.

    I hope there is a corner of the world that can comfortable for me when I am sad,

    I am a selfish child.

    I hope my mom belongs only to me, so I can enjoy the sweetness of love. "

    This poem was written by a middle school student in a lonely mountains town in Yunnan Province during her first poetry class. The girl missed her mother, who died when she was 5.

    Kang Yu, the teacher who taught the girl how to write the poem, graduated from Renmin University of China in Beijing in 2015. Soon after her gradation, Kang moved to a town in Yunnan, and worked as a teacher at a middle school there.

    Kang said, "Compared with students in the city, perhaps students in the countryside need a way to express their feelings and be heard more." Supported by the headmaster and other teachers, the school held eight poetry classes for students every year.

    As the classes grew in popularity, Kang became the school's favourite teacher. After she finished her teaching at the school in June 2017, she returned m Beijing and planned to study abroad.

    However, on Teachers' Day in 2017, Kang received a big box full of poems and Letters written by students at her old school. She felt she was needed and decided to abandon her plan of studying abroad. Instead, she set up Enlighten our Future, a charity that reaches students in the countryside how to write poems.

    "Now, I go to several places every week I sleep less than six hours a night and the job  provides no vacations and little money, but the happiness and satisfaction I feel is rewarding enough." Kang said.

    Once a king got two nice falcons(猎鹰) from his son. He had never seen such beautiful falcons before. He loved them so much and he ordered the best falconer to train them to fly.

    After several months, the king came to see how the training was going on. He found that one falcon had already been able to fly high in the sky, while the other was staying on the branch(树枝) of a tree quietly, just keeping still.

    The king called all his falconers together and ordered them to try every way they could to make the other falcon fly. But none of them succeeded. One day，while the king was taking walk in the forest, an idea came to his mind. Maybe someone who knew the natural environment well could solve this problem. He sent for a farmer who lived in the forest into his palace to train it at once.

    The next morning, the king saw the other falcon flying above in the sky freely. "It is unbelievable!" shouted the king. "How could you make it happen?"

    The farmer replied, "It's very easy. I just cut off the branch where the falcon rested."

    It is always the same to human beings. We all have "two flying wings" in our hearts as well, but we often seem not to notice them and stay where we are just for safety and comfort. We don't realize we can fly so high and freely until the "branch" we are resting on breaks.
