The Spring Festival

    The Spring Festival，Chinese New Year，is the most important festival for all of us. All family members get together on New Year's Eve to have a big meal. ①At the same time，everyone celebrates to each other. At about 12 o'clock，some parents and children light crackers. The whole sky is lighted brightly. We may watch the fireworks excitedly. How busy it is！

    On the first early morning of one year，many senior citizen get up early and they stick the reversed(倒着的) Fu or hang some couplets on the front door. Some house's windows are sticked on red paper cuttings.

    The Chinese New Year lasts fifteen days. ②所以在那十五天的时间里，我们总是挨家挨户的去探访我们的亲戚朋友。 At that time children are the happiest because they can get many red packets from their parents，grandparents，uncles， aunts and so on. The last day of the Chinese New Year is another festival. It names the Lantern Festival.

    So the Chinese New Year comes to the end.

When I was a child, watermelon (西瓜) was too expensive for my family. One of my father's friends, Bernie,was a rich businessman. He owned a large fruit store in another place.

Every summer, when the first watermelons arrived, Bernie would give us a call. My father and I would go to Bernie's place. We would sit on the dock (码头) happily and get ready for a big meal.

Bernie would take a big watermelon out, cut it up, give us both a big piece and sit down next to us. Then we three would put our faces into the watermelon, eating it happily.

In my father's eyes, Bernie was a real rich man. I always thought it was because he was a successful businessman. Later I learned that it was not Bernie's money that made my father think like that. My father thought he was rich because of the way he lived his life. Bernie knew when to stop working, get together with friends and enjoy his "watermelon".

When I grew up, because I was too busy making money as a doctor, I forgot the lesson I once learned on the dock. Well, now I've relearned it. Though (尽管) I'm still busy working as a doctor, I will try to slow down and take the time to enjoy the small pleasures (快乐) of my life.

Being part of the basketball group in high school helped me learn the personal and social communication(交际) skills I use today. As a child, playing basketball was my favourite activity or hobby. It was also the way I met a lot of friends that I have now. All my close friends I have met are through(通过) playing basketball. Whether they were on my team, the opposing(对方的) team or just fans in the crowd who liked my play. Basketball not only helped me get friends, but also taught me a lot about life. There are many things of life like basketball. For example, basketball is a team. Like in life you have to work together with other people. The communication skills I learned from basketball help me communicate with friends, parents and bosses at work. 

I started playing basketball in the fifth grade in my primary school. At that time, I was just a 10-year-old boy and I was very quiet and shy. I hardly talked to my teammates. As the years went by, I learned how to communicate with my teammates and my coaches and began to break out of my shell to speak. I started making more and more friends. Basketball helped me meet a lot of new people. By the time I left high school, I had already had a group of friends that I met from playing basketball. 

I remember my every day of high school like it was yesterday.

In China, the Spring Festival is the most {#blank#}1{#/blank#} of the first month of the lunar calendar (阴历). 

Before the Spring Festival comes, people go out {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(buy) things, such as meat. fruit, sweets and new clothes. They clean their houses {#blank#}3{#/blank#} decorate(装饰) them. The Chinese character fu is a must. It is{#blank#}4{#/blank#}(usual) stuck upside down, which means fu comes. 

The celebrations begin on the eve of the lunar New Year. The family get together for {#blank#}5{#/blank#} big dinner. If a person is far from home, he {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(try) to get home for this big dinner. 

During the holidays, they go to visit relatives and {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(friend) and exchange New Year greetings. They sit around {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(talk) and eating candies, cakes and all kinds of delicious foods. You can never imagine {#blank#}9{#/blank#} excited they are! Also, people in the north of China often eat dumplings for breakfast. People in the south often eat niangao because niangao sounds like the phrase "{#blank#}10{#/blank#}(high) every year". 

The celebrations last for 15 days. They will come to an end when the Lantern Festival is over. 

A video of a man playing the piano on the street in Shenzhen became very popular online. Wearing work clothes, 57-year-old Yi Qunlin looked nothing like a musician. Many people couldn't believe it when they saw his great show.

Yi comes from a small village in Hunan. He loved music very much when he was young. He took every opportunity (机会) to learn it. At an early age, Yi learned to play the erhu from a group of people outside his home.

A few years later, he saw a piano for the first time when he visited his cousin. He loved it very much, but his family was too poor to buy one for him. So, he often went to his cousin's home just to sit at the piano. Finally, Yi learned to play the piano himself.

Yi arrived in Shenzhen in 2004. He kept teaching himself to play musical instruments (乐器) in his free time. But he didn't have an opportunity to play the piano.

A public (公共的) piano on a street gave Yi a fresh start. One day, when he was taking a walk with his son after work, he saw someone playing the piano on the street. His son asked him to give it a try. He felt a little afraid at first. But when he put his hands on the piano, his confidence (自信) came back. "Thanks to it, I can make my dream come true," Yi said.
