Paper-making, compass, gunpowder (火药) and printing (印刷术) are the Four Great Inventions of ancient China.

In the Western Han Dynasty (朝代), people know how to make paper. In the Eastern Han Dynasty, Cai Lun uses tree bark, old cloth, and fishnets to make paper. These things are easy to find and cheap. Since then, more people can use paper.

Compass is also called Sinan. It is invented in China during the Han Dynasty. The spoon on the compass always points (指) to the south. It helps travelers to find their way.

Gunpowder is invented in China during the Tang Dynasty. It is a mixture of sulfur, charcoal, and saltpeter. At first, it is used in fireworks. Then people use it in cannons and guns.

Printing is invented in China during the Song Dynasty. It uses small blocks to create printed pages. So people can print books faster. After that, more people can read books and learn new things.

Wow! The farm is so beautiful. Let's walk around the farm. Look at the house on the farm. The house is big and has four pretty windows. You can see many flowers under the tree, too. Let's count the flowers! One, two... I see twenty.

Listen! There are some sounds on the farm. A cow makes a moo sound. A mouse makes a squeak(吱吱叫) sound.

We go to many places every day. How do you travel(出行)? Do you usually walk or ride bikes?

In a big city, there are many ways for you to choose(选择) when you go traveling. If you are in a hurry, you can take a taxi. The taxi driver doesn't stop often on the road. And the driver can take you anywhere you want to visit, but it's too expensive. Of course you can also choose to take the subway. It is safe and you don't need to pay much money. When you aren't busy, you can take a bus. And you can enjoy the scenery(风景) of the city on it. If you want to get more exercise, traveling on foot or by bike may be good for you. Walking can make you healthy and it's very cheap.

Today, many people have cars. But I don't think it is a good thing because there are many cars in the street. They have to move very slowly and it takes more time to get to the places they want to go.
