"Amma, your son has sent money to you," said the postman to the old lady. She was sitting outside her house. Seeing him, Amma's face lighted up. "Let me first talk to my son," she was looking at him with hopeful eyes. But the postman tried to avoid it, "Amma, I don't have so much time. Don't talk with your son every time."

The postman wanted to go but Amma stopped him. She said, "It will take just a while." Hearing this, the postman dialed (拨号) a number on his mobile phone.After talking to her son on the phone, Amma was happy.

Then, the postman handed eight 100-rupee (卢比，货币单位) notes to Amma. After counting the money, she took out one note and gave it to the postman.

"Why, Amma?" asked the postman. Amma smiled and said, "You bring me money and also let me talk to my son. It must cost money, right? So keep it." Amma went inside after giving him lots of blessings (祝福).

The postman left and met his friend Ramu. "Every month you give your own money to Amma. Not only that, you give me money to talk to her on the phone as her son! Why?" Ramu asked.

The postman said, "Her son worked in a foreign country and used to send money to his mother every month. But one day, her son was missing. Now, he's still out of touch. I don't want to tell this to Amma. So I send her some money and ask you to talk with her on the phone."

When Tim Carter finished high school, he started to deliver(送) pizzas. But soon he found that he didn't want to do it for the rest of his life. He thought about he saw his uncle welding(焊接) the parts of his car and was really interested in it. So he took a night class at a local school to see if welding was a job that he was going to stick to(坚持).

After studying for some time, he found it was. Tim learned more about welding there and then he wanted to learn everything about it. He decided to make welding his career(职业). But one night class wouldn't be enough. Tim went to a welding school for real practice. He was quite sure he would stick to the job.

For the past 18 years, Tim has been a skillful welder. He now works for the EEW Group. It is a welding company and also helps to give away most of the profits(收益) to environmental programs. A day for Tim includes a number of tasks and skills. "There are a lot to deal with(处理)," he told Time for Kids. "It's not just welding."

Tim's favorite part of being a welder is "making an honest living". He also feels fantastic about helping the environment. "I'm glad to stick to what I really want to do." he says. "I'm working for a company. The company is helping the country to go green, and it's meaningful for me to be a part of that."

In the 1960s,NASA created a technology to clean astronauts' drinking water.It is now widely used to clean water in swimming pools.

Astronauts could easily get tangled up in wires,so NASA made wireless,hands-free headsets.

Astronauts can then move while talking and listening.

·Dust busters (手持吸尘器)

Astronauts hoped to collect samples on the moon.A company created a tool to help them do that.

The company then used this technology to make the dust buster in 1979.

In the past,you needed to type in codes(代码)in your computer to make it work for you.In 1968, a NASA researcher tried to make computers on spaceships easier to use,and this led to the creation of the mouse.

Look for city tourism cards. With the card, you can pay less at restaurants and shops. You don't have to wait for a long time at busy tourist attractions(旅游景点). You might even get free tickets to top tourist attractions. City tourism cards can save your money and time without question. 

Don't get the best room. How long will you stay in your room? Will you just be sleeping there? Do you really need a bigger room with a good view?

Find a hotel outside a city. It can help you save some money by choosing a hotel away from big tourist attractions, for you are always doing the same — go to the attractions and then return to your hotel to sleep. 

Book a room with a kitchen. Although some people might not like to cook while on vacation, I don't mind making breakfast in my room. We always eat at a nice restaurant on our last night of the vacation. I'd rather eat breakfast and lunch at the hotel and then spend much money on a delicious dinner.
