Breakdancing, also known as breaking, will be an Olympic sport for the first time in 2024. To attract younger people to watch sports games, breaking is becoming a new event at the 2024 Paris Olympic Games. Paris 2024 Olympics will see 16 b-boys and 16 b-girls compete in one-on-one “battles”. The top finishers will get the Olympic prize.

Breaking is a kind of street dance. It is also part of the hip hop movement. It grew up together with hip hop during the early 1970s. It was really popular among African American and Latin American young people.

In the past, people wouldn't believe that street dance could become an Olympic sport. However, it comes true now. When the International Olympic Committee says breakdancing will be added to the 2024 Paris Olympic Games, a lot of people are excited. “It is a historic time not only for b-boys and b-girls, but for all dancers around the world. We thank everyone who helped make it possible,” says Shawn Tay, president of the World DanceSport Federation (WDSF). WDSF is happy about the result and it will prepare for the breakdancing competition to make the event unforgettable.

Skateboarding, surfing and rock-climbing are also becoming the 2024 Paris Olympic events. In fact, the three new sports have already been added to the program for the 2021 Tokyo Olympics. These new sports are going to make Olympics more attractive.

The lion dance, a form of traditional dance in China, can date back to the Three Kingdom Period (220—280). It was very popular during the Tang Dynasty (618—907). The lions looked powerful and a little scary. Chinese people believe that lions can drive away bad luck and bring good luck. Many also think that the animal is a symbol (象征) of China. That's why lots of people, including overseas Chinese, love this dance so much. 

There are different lion dances in different places. It's called Xingshi in Guangdong. In 2006, Xingshi was added to China's list of national intangible cultural heritage (国家级非物质文化遗产). 

Wang Rentao has been performing the lion dance for 28 years. He is now head of a lion dance team in Guangdong. Last year, the team took part in the celebration of the 74th birthday of New China at Tian'anmen Square. It is famous for dancing on quincuncial piles (梅花桩), one of the most difficult lion dance skills. Dancers jump from one pile to another at a height of about 2.5 meters. The piles are l.8 meters away from each other. "The training is really hard. All dancers can play Kung Fu. Even with that, they may fall from the pile and get hurt," Wang said. "It can take many years to learn the skill. But that's also the amazing part of lion dance, the part that makes it valuable heritage."

Now students can learn lion dance in school. This helps students know more about the rich cultural traditions of China and feel proud of their heritage.

Road accidents keep happening in every city, on every road at any time. Traffic rules are made to keep order on the road. They can also help to keep the pedestrians (行人) safe. 

The pedestrian has as many rules to follow as the driver of a car. You should walk on the sidewalk or at the edge of the road. Always look carefully before you walk across the street. If you ride a bike, don't ride in the middle of the road or look around to talk. If you drive, you should slow down at the traffic lights. You must always wear a seat belt (安全带). Without the belts, both the driver and the passengers may be badly hurt in a sudden accident. 

Traffic rules are also called Road Safety rules. The maxim (格言) for all road users is "Thinking about others". It's important for everyone to follow the traffic rules.

Men get their courtesy names when they are 20 years old. Wome n get their courtesy names after they get married (结婚).

People's courtesy names have something to do with (与……有关) their given names. For example, Zhuge Liang's given name is Liang. It means" bright". His courtesy name is Kongming. And the meaning is" very bright".

VR can also help students in science classes at school. "Too often at school, when you do experiments (实验), you put different kinds of chemicals together and then get the result. And if you aren't successful, you need to do it again, " a high school teacher said. "But we don't have enough chemicals. With VR, I just need to do it again on the computer. I don't have to use chemicals."

VR is useful, but that's not to say we don't need real-world experiences. The real world is what we really need to learn about.
