Amsterdam is the capital of the Netherland (荷兰). With fewer than one million people, Amsterdam is the largest city in Netherland. It's also one of the top financial (经济) centers in Europe. Seven of the world's 500 largest companies like Philips have their headquarters (总部) there.

Amsterdam is a very safe city. People can take a walk home late at night. Leaving a wallet or computer in a cafe may not be a big problem for them. They are sure to find things back easily. Many people like traveling there. As many as 4.63 million tourists go there every year. Most of them are from other European countries. The largest group of non-European visitors comes from the United States.

Besides, it is famous as the most bicycle-friendly large city in the world. There are many bike paths and there are about 1.2 million bicycles in Amsterdam, more than the number of people in the city.

"Just because you can't see something, that doesn't mean it's not there." This old saying is quite meaningful for British artist Willard Green. The items he creates are so tiny that most of them fit on the head of a pin (针). You can see them clearly through a microscope (显微镜).

At every one of his art shows, people always ask the same question, "▲"

The answer is "Very, very carefully." So carefully, in fact, that he actually slows his breath down and works in between breaths. Willard usually works patiently under a microscope using special tools that he creates. To paint his works, he uses the hair from a fly(苍蝇) as a paintbrush.

Creating these detailed works is a very long and difficult process, and it isn't always enjoyable. "It is a terrible dream when I start but a nice dream when I finish," he says. A single item can take at least several weeks to complete.

People have asked Willard why he chose to do something that needed effort and took time. When he was young, Willard was not a strong student. He had difficulty in reading and spelling words. Some kids used to call him a loser. This made him feel small, so working on little things helped him to feel big. The smaller his work got, the bigger he felt. A newspaper reporter said, "Though his works of art are small, Willard is a great artist!"

I am Sandy Brown. Tony, Mary and I are in the same class. They are brother and sister but they don't like the same food.

 Mary doesn't want to be fat. So, for breakfast, she only has an egg and a cup of milk. For lunch, she has some vegetables and rice with her friends. For dinner, she likes fruit salad. She likes ice- cream and hamburgers, but she doesn't eat them. She thinks they can make her fat.

 What about Tony? He likes sports very much and he plays volleyball well. He always has a big breakfast: two eggs, some milk and salad. For lunch, he likes chicken, a hamburger and some rice. After school, he plays volleyball with his classmates. So he is hungry in the evening. He likes some vegetables, two hamburgers and some fruit for dinner.

 According to a research more than 130 billion pounds of uneaten food go to waste in Laura's country each year. That is about 30% of the yearly food supply (供应). It is a sad fact especially when you consider how many families and homeless people are in hunger.

 When Laura saw her school dining hall throw away food that was not eaten at all every day, she came up with an idea. She started a project to help her school dining hall to give away uneaten food to homeless shelters (庇护所) in her community. In the past three years, the same project has spread to other schools and some fast food restaurants throughout the city. The project is called Feed& find, and has already fed thousands of people in her city.

 How does it work? Through an app, Feed& amp; Find matches local homeless shelters with school dining halls and restaurants that have uneaten food to provide. When dining halls or restaurants have uneaten food left, they can use the app to share the information about the food. A truck driver working for the project is then sent to pick it up and take it to a shelter.

 Pretty cool, right? It's not surprising that people in other cities have got in touch with Laura hoping that she could have developed similar projects for their communities.

 Some people, however, have concerns about the safety of the uneaten food. They think such food may not be clean enough. Still, this project is a clever way to help solve the problem of food waste and it helps those in need.

Duan Jiayang, a 13-year-old student of a middle school in Shenzhen, learns the skills required to take care of vegetable fields. "We have many activities, such as placing the mulch film(地膜), "he says, "It's not easy. "

In China, many parents place a heavy focus on their children's good grades, but vocational(职业的) skills have little been cared. "Some parents do everything for their children, "says Yan Mei, an official in the middle school, adding that many students are short of the basic skills needed in their daily lives

Since March last year, the governments have launched(发布)a lot of policies(政策), requiring that colleges, middle schools and primary schools pay more attention to teaching students practical skills. Following these policies, the middle school launched an"agricultural(农业的)class base"on one of its schoolyards. Students plant fruit and vegetables on an area of land about 4, 000m²in size. 

In the days coming up to the MayDay holiday, students of different grades at the school worked together in the fields, says a head teacher of a middle school. They planted watermelons, carrots and corn. 

The school hopes that students will understand the food is quite precious so that they will better realize the difficulties that their parents went through.
