If you are in big cities like Shanghai or Beijing, maybe you get to school by subway; or you have to {#blank#}1{#/blank#} to school because you live in a mountain village. Here I am just trying to say something about bicycles and buses.

Ten years ago, bicycles were very popular in most villages. Every family had one or two of them. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} went to school by bicycle; women rode bicycles to go shopping. Then motorcycles became popular. People no longer rode bicycles because motorcycles ran much {#blank#}3{#/blank#}. But now, in some countries bicycles are highly suggested as the main means of transportation. They think buses, cars and motorcycles pollute the air but bicycles do not. 

Buses are also very {#blank#}4{#/blank#} in our lives. In big cities, more than one third of the children get to school by bus and most people take buses to work. When we get up late, we usually take a taxi. But sometimes, we are late for school or work not because of getting up late but because of a {#blank#}5{#/blank#} jam. Too many taxis make our streets very crowded and sometimes it's dangerous. As for this problem, some countries have made the special roads for buses in big cities, just like trains in our country.

A traveler came out of the airport. There were many taxis. She looked around carefully and asked every p{#blank#}1{#/blank#} name. After that, she took one of them. It c{#blank#}2{#/blank#} five dollars to go from the airport to the hotel. Then the traveler asked the driver to show her around the city for a whole day. For the service, the driver wanted 100 dollars. It was very e{#blank#}3{#/blank#}, but the traveler said nothing and agreed. The driver took the woman everywhere h{#blank#}4{#/blank#}. In the evening they went back to the hotel. The traveler gave 100 dollars to the driver and asked the driver f{#blank#}5{#/blank#} another day's driving. It was another 100 dollars. The driver was very pleased.

The next day they went to the same places again. In the evening the driver got the money, but he felt a little guilty (内疚的), b{#blank#}6{#/blank#} 100 dollars a day was a lot of money.

‘So you are going home tomorrow. Where are you from?' said the driver.

‘I come from New York.' answered the traveler.

‘New York?' said the driver. ‘I have a sister in New York too. Her name is Susan. Do you know her?'

‘She asked me to give you 200 dollars!' said the traveller.

Jobs in the Animal World

In the animal world, some animals'jobs are amazing. What can a pigeon do? It can be a post-man. It can fly. It can deliver letters. The wood-pecker is a good doctor for the trees. It can eat the worms in the trees. Because of this, the trees stay healthy. Do you know the frog? It can jump and swim in the water. It could be a lifeguard.What about the cat? It can be a good police offi-cer. It can catch the mice.

This is my s{#blank#}1{#/blank#}. She is 5 years o{#blank#}2{#/blank#}. Look! There is a cute p{#blank#}3{#/blank#} in her hand. It's black and w{#blank#}4{#/blank#}. I am a good brother. I s{#blank#}5{#/blank#}my toys with her.

One night a man came to my house. He told me, "There is a family with eight children. They have not eaten for days." After I asked him where the family was, I took some food with me and left.

When I finally got to that family , I found those little children were too hungry to say anything. There was no sadness in their eyes, just the deep pain of hunger. I gave the food to the mother. She took half of it, and then went out. When she returned, I asked her, "Where did you go?" She gave me this simple answer, "To my neighbors. They are also hungry!"

I was not surprised that she gave food to others, because poor people are always very kind. But I was surprised that she shared the food with her neighbors when she was also in need of food. Usually, when we are in trouble, we always think of ourselves first. And we have no time for others.

 It was really wonderful news that the policy of"double-lightening the burden(双减)" came out in 2021. In the past, Chinese children were busier on weekends than weekdays because of many after-school classes. Many of them learned exam skills so that they could get into a good high school and later a good university. Others practiced sports so that they could win.

 However, this didn't only happen in China. The Bairds are a typical(典型的) American family. Life for Cathy Baird's three children was very busy. "On most days after school," Cathy said, "I take one of my two boys to basketball practice and my daughter to football training. Then I have to take my other son to piano lessons. Maybe I could cut out a few of their activities, but I believe these activities are important for my children's future. I really want them to be successful. However, the tired children get home after 7:00 p. m. They have a quick dinner, and then it's time for homework."

 Linda Miller, a mother of two, knew all about such stress. She said, "Mothers send their small kids to all kinds of classes. And they are always comparing them with other children. It's crazy. I don't think that's fair. Why don't they just let their kids be kids?"

 Parents shouldn't push their kids so hard. Doctors said too much stress is not good for a child's development. Dr. Alice Green said, "Kids should have time to relax and think for themselves."
