    People，animals and plants all live on the Earth．The Earth turns around itself once 24 hours．This is why there is a day and a night Oil the Earth．The Earth goes around the sun once a year for giving us different seasons．The moon moves around the Earth．The sun is much bigger than the moon．But the moon looks bigger than the sun because it's much nearer to the Earth．The sun is very bright．It gives out a very strong light．The moon looks quite bright，too．But it can't give out any light at all．

    This is Mike's bedroom. You can see a desk and a bed in the room. On the desk, there is a backpack and three books. One is a Chinese book, the other two are English books. There is a clock on the desk, too. You can see a baseball under the desk. On the bed there is a box. Can you guess what's in the box? Ah, it's a new computer game. It's the present(礼物) for Mike's seventh birthday.

Tom: Mum, it will be International Children's Day tomorrow. I want to have a party in our house.

Mum: It's a good idea. Who will you invite(邀请) to our house?

Tom: Peter, Jim, Mary, Lucy and Amy. They will bring their lovely toys here. Then we will show our toys to each other and play with the toys.

Mum: Great. What do they have?

Tom: Jim has a model plane. It can fly very high. Lucy and Amy have many beautiful dolls (玩偶).

Mum: OK, and I can cook some nice food for you.

Tom: Thank you, Mum.

     Chinese people have many festivals or red-letter days each year. In January we have New Year's Day. In February we often have the Spring Festival. In March we have Women's Day and Tree planting Day. In April we usually have the Qingming Festival. In May we have May Day. We also call it Labour Day(劳动节). In June we have Children's Day and we usually have the Dragon Boat Festival. In July we have our Party's Birthday. In August we have our Army Day. In September we have Teachers' Day and we usually have the Mid-Autumn Festival in this month. In October we have our National Day and we usually have the Double-ninth Festival.

No Car Day

    No Car Day was first started by 34 cities in France on September 22, 1998. It was started to protect the environment. By now, more than 1000 cities around the world have had a No Car Day.

    The first No Car Day in China was in Chengdu in 2001. Other cities, including Taipei, Shanghai and Wuhan also support (支持) the day.

    In Beijing, more and more people are joining the campaign (运动). It asks drivers to leave their cars at home for one day each month and walk or ride a bike to work. It also calls on Beijingers not to use cars on June 5 (World Environment Day). The slogan (口号) for the day is, "If we drive for one less day, we can have one more nice day."

    So far, more than 200000 drivers have shown their support. "We can't control (控制) the weather, but we can choose not to drive," said Wu Zonghua, a car club chairman. Beijing is trying to have 238 blue sky days this year. In the first quarter (季度) of 2007, Beijing only had 52 blue sky days. This was 11 days less than the number for the same period (时期) last year. Much of the dust comes from the desert, (沙漠) but cars cause most of the air pollution. We must do more for No Car Day.
