Tomorrow is Monday. LingLing and Amy will go to school. Their school always starts at nine o'clock. They often get up at half past seven. Amy walks to school because her house is near the school. LingLing does exercises every morning, but Amy doesn't. Amy plays in the playground before nine o' clock.

My hobby is playing chess—one of the greatest games in the world. My mum t{#blank#}1{#/blank#} me to play when I was seven years old. She beat me every time for the first year. But then, on my eleventh birthday, I w{#blank#}2{#/blank#} for the first time. Now I am always the winner between us. 

It takes about a day to learn the r{#blank#}3{#/blank#}. But if you want to be good, you have to practice for years. You don't need much to play chess—just a chess set (一盘棋) and someone to play w{#blank#}4{#/blank#}. Chess sets will be very cheap, or quite e{#blank#}5{#/blank#}. Some people collect chess sets as a hobby, but I prefer to play. 

There is a chess club in our school. We meet every week to play with each other. I am the best p{#blank#}6{#/blank#} in the club, and the captain of the school chess team. This year we got the All English Schools' Championship(锦标赛). 

I'm s{#blank#}7{#/blank#} up my money to buy a chess computer. It's very good for practice, and I'm sure I'll make more progress.

Carl is a 12-year-old boy. He lives in a small town in Syria (叙利亚). Carl lost his home because of war (战争). Now he lives in a camp with his family.

Carl is short but strong. He is good at sports. He can play football very well. Carl's father is his football coach (教练). He is strict (严格的) with Carl. He always says, "No pleasure without pain. "So Carl practices and practices. He hopes he will be a famous football star like his idol Cristiano Ronaldo (C罗).

Today is November 10th. Carl will have his thirteenth birthday next Friday. He has many wishes (愿望) for his birthday. He wishes he would have a new football. He wishes he would be a good football player. He wishes his family would have a new house. But his greatest wish is that the war in his country would end soon.

There are two people in the playground. The tall man is my Chinese teacher, Mr Brown. He is 30 years old. He is kind and funny. His class is very fun. He can do some kung fu and swim well, too. We all like him and his class very much. Look at the nice girl. She is short and thin. Her brown hair is long. She can speak English well. She is from the UK. She can play the piano, but she can't play the pipa. Who is she? Haha! It is me. My name is Sandy.
