Mr. Smith is 100 yearsold, but he is very healthy. He can read, play chess with people, and take careof himself(他自己). Many people want toknow his secrets (秘密) about keeping healthy and livinga long life. Here is what Mr. Smith says:

"My secrets aresimple. You can learn them easily. First, you should go to bed early andget up early every day. This is a good habit. For me, I usually go to bed at9:00 at night and get up at 6:00 in the morning."

"Second, do more(更多的) exercise. I always go out for a walkbefore having breakfast. In the morning and afternoon, I do some simple exercise,too.

"Third, make morefriends. I have many friends. Some of them are old. Some of them are not. Itmakes me happy to be with them. That is also important to live a longlife."

Many stories happened at the Children's Medical Care Center. These stories deeply touched us. We saw a lot of children without hair because they got special treatment（治疗）.We played with them and drew pictures with them.They had great pains, but they were very friendly. It was much easier to talk with them than we had expected.

One day, a girl wanted toteach us how to fold paper.She taught us with great patience（耐心）and explained each step slowly.Though we could do that well，we still pretended（假装）to know nothing about it. We followed her step by step and did as she told us. Finaly,when we completed our work perfectly,she gave us a big hug．We could see the pride and happinss on her face．（A）她的父亲对我们十分感激。And his eyes were full of tears. Until then，we knew that the girl would receive an operation（手术）the next day.

It was really a valuable experience to all of us. We began to think about the ways to deal with the difficulties in life. （B）When we compare our "troubles"with those kids'. ours seem not worth mentioning at all.

Ghosts of our loved ones

Many people think things like ghosts and death are scary. But in fact, we just had a festival celebrating these things.

Every year, on the 15th day of the seventh month in the Chinese lunar calendar, we celebrate Zhongyuan Festival, or Ghost Festival. It is on August 30th this year. On this day, families light lanterns to help dead people find their way home. But at the same time, living people don't want to stay out at night during Ghost Festival. They believe ghosts may hurt them.

Ghost Festival and Tomb-Sweeping Day, or Qingming Festival are both holidays that honor the dead. During Ghost Festival, the spirits of all dead people are honored. But we only honor our dead family members at Qingming. People believe the spirits of the dead would come back to Earth during Ghost Festival, but not during Qingming.

In Chinese culture, death is a scary and heavy thing. People are mostly afraid of it. But in some other cultures, death is a less gloomy（阴郁的） thing. 

In the US, people remember the dead on Halloween. But they make it a fun festival. People wear scary clothes. Children do fun things, like trick-or-treating.

In Mexico, the Day of the Dead is a time for the living to connect with the dead. They make dolls of the dead and tell stories about them. There are also parties at night. Whether you like it or not, death is apart of life. Understanding death can help us cherish(珍惜) our time here and live best lives.

Henry was an office worker in a big city.He worked very hard and enjoyed {#blank#}1{#/blank#}in his holidays.

He usually travelled abroad，but one year he saw an advertisement（广告） in a newspaper."Enjoy country life.Spend a {#blank#}2{#/blank#}weeks at West Hill Farm.Good food.Fresh air.Horse riding.Walking.Fishing.Cheap and interesting."

"This {#blank#}3{#/blank#}a good idea，" he thought."I'll spend a month at West Hill Farm.I think I can enjoy horse {#blank#}4{#/blank#}，walking and fishing.They'll make a change from sitting by the seaside and swimming."

He {#blank#}5{#/blank#} to the farmer.In the letter he said that he would {#blank#}6{#/blank#}to spend all of July there.Then on the first of July，he left for West Hill Farm.

"What was wrong with West Hill Farm？"his best friend，Ed，asked him."Didn't you enjoy country life？"

"Country life was very good，"Henry said."But there {#blank#}8{#/blank#}another problem."

"Oh.What？"

"Well，"he said，"the first day I was there a sheep died（烤羊肉）for dinner."

"What's wrong with that？" Ed asked. "Fresh meat is the best."

"I know，but on the {#blank#}9{#/blank#}day a cow died，and we had roast beef for dinner."

"Lucky you!"

"You don't understand，"Henry said."On the third day a pig died and we had roast pork（猪肉）for dinner."

"A different meat {#blank#}10{#/blank#}day，" Ed said loudly， "and you are complaining!"

"Let me finish，"Henry said."on the fourth day the farmer died，and I didn't dare （敢）stay for dinner!"

Last week our school held a sports meet. Everyone in our class felt very e{#blank#}1{#/blank#} because we won. In the boys' relay race, Michael ran very fast and our class w{#blank#}2{#/blank#} the first place. Yu Ting is good{#blank#}3{#/blank#} the long jump and she also got the first place. We' re sorry that we did badly in the high jump, but we' re sure we will do better next time.

It{#blank#}4{#/blank#} part in the boys'400- meter race. I did my best and was the first to cross the line. Now I love sports more. I want to be a soccer player. I will do more e{#blank#}5{#/blank#} every day and I hope someday I' ll be able to take part in the Olympic Games.

I received a phone call from my friend the night before yesterday.  We talked for more than 40 1 .  But I spent 30 minutes listening to her.  Her 2 were full of complaints (抱怨) about the work, the society and other things.  Later I stopped her and 3 her, "Firstly, what are you trying to tell me after repeating all that? Secondly, how do you feel after 4 these complaints.  I think 5 can be changed unless you make up your mind to change it. " In the following communication, we talked much better.  We talked about the progress she had made on her6 , and I also gave her some advice on her work. 

We all have problems with our work, our friends, our families, or within ourselves.  We should do something to 7 the problem instead of complaining all the time.  What is the use of complaining? No use at all.  The goal of changing the world is too 8 .  We cannot achieve that big goal in one go.  Try to start with yourself, face to life actively and change your world.  Changing your world is an important part of changing the world.  And remember to be9 to others.  Be thankful, so you don't complain.  Then everything will change, 10 get better and better!

Change yourself, start by stopping complaining, and the world will really start to change.
