The population in many parts of the world is getting older. There are now more than 0.8 billion people who are over the age of 65, and it's possible that {#blank#}1{#/blank#}number will double by the year 2050.

With higher numbers of older people, a new problem{#blank#}2{#/blank#} (see) in many parts of the world. Many older people are {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(live) alone, and don't have other people to talk to, or to help them even when they{#blank#}4{#/blank#}(bad) need something. This can make people feel {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(lone), depressed, and even get them{#blank#}6{#/blank#}(become) sick. The good news is that there are groups around the world that are trying to help.

The local government in Adachi Ward in Japan started the Zero Isolation Project in 2013. More than 500 {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(volunteer) visit people over the age of 70, talk to them, help them if they have problems. and help them to join social groups in {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(they) city.

In Seattle, Washington, the USA, the Intergenerational Learning Center is a preschool that is inside a retirement home. Five days a week, young children talk, play, read, and do art projects {#blank#}9{#/blank#}the older people living in the retirement home. Being with the children makes the older people feel happy,{#blank#}10{#/blank#} the children learn social skills while having fun.

Most children like to watch cartoons on TV because of the funny characters and the bright colors. {#blank#}1{#/blank#}

Some people think it leaves nothing for children to imagine when they watch cartoons on TV. They can see the different characters, so they need not imagine the appearance of a character or any situation in the cartoon. But when reading a book, the child has to imagine what the different characters look like. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} So the imaginative power of the child improves. 

Almost every child is able to read books. {#blank#}3{#/blank#} Watching cartoons will improve their language ability. As most of the cartoons are in English watching them will improve their English. {#blank#}4{#/blank#} In this way, their vocabulary will get improved. They will learn how to pronounce different words. Their spoken English will also get greatly improved. These are the advantages (好处) of watching cartoons. 

But there should be a limit (限制) to everything. {#blank#}5{#/blank#} However, you cannot keep children from watching TV completely. It will only do more harm than good.
 

January 1st is the New Year's Day, the first day of the year. It is a legal(法定的)holiday, and all banks, stores and schools are closed. Many people invite their friends to come and visit them in the afternoon or evening.

The only legal holiday in February is Washington's Birthday. Although Washington was born on February 22nd, his birthday is now celebrated on the third Monday of February. Some states also celebrate Lincoln's birthday on February 12th. These two, the United States' most famous presidents, were both born in February. The last Monday in May is Memorial Day(纪念日). This holiday remembers many service members, men and women, who died for their country. Americans celebrate Memorial Day with services in cemeteries(公墓)and churches.

America's great national holiday, Independence Day, falls on the fourth of July. It celebrates the birth of the United States. It was on this day that the colonists(殖民者)announced their independence from England. They had to fight hard for the next seven years to win this independence.

The first Monday of September is Labor Day(劳工节). This holiday honors(向……表示敬意)the working people of the United States. There are sorts of celebrations and speeches on this day, too. People go to all kinds of places to enjoy the fine weather at the end of summer.

Do you like takeout (外卖食物)? In the West, Chinese takeout is {#blank#}1{#/blank#} unusual kind of food. It {#blank#}2{#/blank#} (send) to your house in small square boxes quickly, with rice and fortune cookies. It {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(think) as a really good choice when you feel tired and don't want to cook or eat out. {#blank#}4{#/blank#} this kind of Chinese food isn't very authentic (正宗的). Actually, it is very different from real Chinese food. 

 Nowadays, real Chinese dishes have been much {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(popular) in foreign countries than before. In the United States, people like having hot pot and roujiamo. In Russia, hundreds of tanghulu may {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (sell) in just a few hours. Latiao  {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (love) by overseas students. A lot of these foods are unlike Western foods. This explains clearly why foreigners are interested {#blank#}8{#/blank#} them so much. 

Chinese people who live abroad introduce most of these foods. Some of them are new, like latiao. Some of them {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(become) popular in foreign countries for so many years. But one thing is for sure: It's really great fun for foreigners {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(eat) Chinese food with their friends and families. They truly enjoy it. 

 It's quite natural for us to make mistakes. However, if you make the same mistake for three times or even more, you' re too silly to be forgiven. How do you avoid(避免) making the same mistake again in daily study? I think keeping an error (错误) correction book after class is a good way. Mistakes must be corrected in the students' learning. Correcting is more valuable over the long term, especially for middle school students. An error correction book can help you in these ways.
