On Oct. 23 Chinese swimmer Qin Haiyang got the title of Best Male Swimmer of the Year 2023. Qin won 23 gold medals in the breaststroke （蛙泳）in the big {#blank#}1{#/blank#}（竞赛；竞争）he took part in in 2023. At the world Aquatics Championships in Fukuoka in Japan，he broke five {#blank#}2{#/blank#}（亚洲的）records and became the first swimmer in history to win all three breaststroke golds at a single edition of the event. 

Breaststroke is not easy, it's harder to swim fast because all the strokes {#blank#}3{#/blank#}（发生）under the water. This makes the water push back on the swimmer more and it takes a lot of {#blank#}4{#/blank#}（技能）to swim well. Qin said to Jimu News. "Some people say I'm fast because I save {#blank#}5{#/blank#}（力量，精力）by using fewer strokes. While others might take one and a half strokes, I only need one to swim as far as they do. "

This summer, when I walked into my grandparents' house with my little brother Frank, Everything still looked the same. Grandpa's blue 1 was on his chair. My cousin Jack was playing in the yard as if nothing had happened. 

" Let's go to catch fish!" Jack pulled out the fish net from the corner, Grandpa's net. 

 Last summer, I was holding the 2 when Grandpa asked me whether I could help him teach Frank to play chess. I said no because I wanted to catch fish. Grandpa had been the one who'd taught us how to catch fish, but then the 3 made him stay behind. 

 Now I wouldn't have a chance to play chess with him any more. Nobody knew how 4 I was for saying no to Grandpa. 

 When we reached the stream, we began to catch fish. Suddenly, Jack shouted, " Look! Frank is in the water. He is shaking!" We hadn't brought anything to keep 5 , so I had to send him home. Grandma was 6 to see a wet Frank. She hurried to take him into the room and 7 put Grandpa's blue blanket around him. 

 As I went to the stream again to meet Jack, I looked back at Frank with that old blanket. Something seemed to 8 me at that moment. Everything was just like before, but Grandpa was gone. 

I walked to Frank. " Did Grandpa teach you to play chess last summer?"I asked. " No, Grandpa   was too sick then. " he said, "I 9 him. "

" Me, too. " When I said it, I knew Grandpa was never gone. What 10 us was still there. It could be the fish net. It could be the chess. It could be the blue blanket. 

 Every Cloud Has a Silver Lining

My parents were away for a whole week. They were visiting my grandparents in a city almost 200 {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(kilometre) away. To be honest (诚实的), I was really {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(excite) at the thought of being alone. Because I can do everything by {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(I). I can cook and use the washing machine and I told my parents I would remember {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(lock) the door when I went out. Nothing could go wrong. 

But something did happen! I {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(watch) television one night when the screen suddenly went black. When I checked, I found that the lights did not work either. 

It was so late at night {#blank#}6{#/blank#} I couldn't do anything. So I went to bed and waited till the next morning. Then I rang to my parents and asked them {#blank#}7{#/blank#} to do. My mum told me to take {#blank#}8{#/blank#} electricity card to the bank and buy some electricity. I did as my mum told me. {#blank#}9{#/blank#} last, the electricity started working again. 

Although I was a bit worried during the night, {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(especial) when there were no lights, I was happy that I could solve the problem in the end. 

The Eco-house

Simon Dale didn't want to live in a city's apartment building. So he made up his mind {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(build) his own house in the countryside. He moved to Wales with his family and built {#blank#}2{#/blank#} wooden eco-house. With the help of his father-in-law, a builder, he moved into a comfortable new home after only four months. It only cost $4, 700 to build the house — much {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(cheap) than an apartment. 

The eco-house is made of natural {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(thing). Simon Dale and his father-in-law {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(dig) into the side of a hill and then used the mud and stone to make the walls. The floors are {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(make) of wood from the nearby area. There is no central heating system, {#blank#}7{#/blank#} there's a wood-burner and solar panels(太阳能电板) on the top {#blank#}8{#/blank#} can provide power for lighting, music and computing. Drinking water is from a nearby spring. The fri dge stays cool, thanks {#blank#}9{#/blank#} the underground air. Simon Dale says, "We try to live in peace with the natural world. " He has {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(certain) done his best to achieve that. 

It's not often that two problems add up to one solution, but Mr Than Tun Win has made it happen. His programme LessWalk takes the problem of wasted shared bikes and turns them into an easy way for students in Myanmar to travel a long way to school. 

In the last few years, companies of shared bikes began taking up streets. But it didn't take long before there were too many bikes. Some companies went out of business, leaving behind thousands of new shared bikes. 

Mr Than Tun Win realised that these bikes could do good for students in Myanmar: Some of them travel an hour or more on foot every day to school. " If they spend less time on the way, they can have more time to study and have better chance to find good jobs, " he said. 

Soon Mr Than Tun Win raised around $400, 000 and bought shared bikes and shipped them to Myanmar. It wasn't easy — there was much work in moving the bikes from one country to another. 

Though LessWalk began in March 2019, the programme has brought 7, 200 bikes into Myanmar that year. Mr Than Tun Win hopes to bring in 100, 000 bikes and expand(扩展) the programme to Laos and Cambodia.
