In 1990, when I {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (be) nine years old, I wanted very much to find {#blank#}2{#/blank#} pen friend. I found Ashley's address in a magazine, and decided{#blank#}3{#/blank#} (write) to her. I sent off my letter with a little hope. Very quickly, I received her letter. {#blank#}4{#/blank#} my surprise, Ashley was only one month {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (old) than me. I learned some new expressions from her. Letter after letter, year after year, Ashley and I continued to write to one another. A letter would be received and I'd write back right away. We would send each other birthday and festival {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (gift).

Eight years later, my parents decided it was time {#blank#}8{#/blank#} me to meet this friend. They drove me down to Mississippi for a few days. We {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (have)a fun time together. We did the things that teenage girls love to do.

Twenty—five years after the {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (one) letter, Ashley and I still have an amazing friendship. Although we don't write letters now, we communicate through mobile phones and the Internet.

Before Father's Day，I found my father was unhappy because he lost his job. I decided to cheer him up by buying him a special 1 gift. 

One day after school，I 2 to a gift shop. I told the shopkeeper that I was looking for a Father's Day present.

"What really surprised me to this day. . . my daughter，"my father said，"letting you have the watch for 11 dollars was 10 enough. But the fact that she let you leave the store with a dollar for the card was a touch of kindness. I'll never forget it. "

When my first wartime Christmas came, I was in a new soldier school in Ashland and not sure if I could make it home for the holidays. On the afternoon of December 23, we were told some of us would have three-day holidays posted. I was one of the lucky soldiers.

It was Christmas Eve when I arrived home, and a light snow had fallen. Mother opened the front door. I could see over her, into the corner of the living room where the tree had always stood. There were lights all colors shining in the green of the tree.

"Where did it come from?" I asked.

I asked the gate boy to cut it" my mother said. "I wouldn't have had one just for myself, but you called in such a rush! He just brought it in this afternoon."

The tree was almost as tall as the room, and the Tree Top Star was in its place. A few branches reached about a little disorderly at the side, I thought, and there was a big bare branch（树枝） showing in the middle. But the tree filled the room with the pleasant smell of Christmas.

"It's not like the one you want to find, " my mother went on. "Yours were always in good shape and you were good at it. I think the gate boy didn't know where to look for a better one." "Don't worry." I told her. "It's perfect."

It wasn't, of course, but at the moment I understood for the first time, all Christmas trees are perfect.

The photo wasn't the result of just chance and luck. Chasiotis carefully chose a place where he got a perfect view of the eclipse. The w{#blank#}3{#/blank#} wasn't good at the beginning— it was cloudy. He was w{#blank#}4{#/blank#} that he couldn't see anything. L{#blank#}5{#/blank#}, the Sun began to rise after a while. It looked like two red horns rising from the sea. Because of their shape, they were nicknamed the "Devil's Horns". 

I used to love games. I would spend hours {#blank#}1{#/blank#} on my phone. I used to love going out partying. It was so much fun and I did it every week. But how could I study the next morning after only four{#blank#}2{#/blank#} sleep? It seemed that I{#blank#}3{#/blank#} could't stay focused(注意力集中的) in class.

 At the age of 21, I started to feel {#blank#}4{#/blank#} because my grades were terrible! I feared to have a future without a good job and without enough money. I realized I had nobody to turn to for {#blank#}5{#/blank#} if I didn't get my degree(学位). So I decided to study hard. Finally, I finished my degree with top {#blank#}6{#/blank#} and new-found confidence(自信). Below is some of what I did.

●I went to bed early, no {#blank#}7{#/blank#} than 10:30 p. m. That helped me remember things well.

●I found three favorite study places. They were comfortable and quiet. Going {#blank#}8{#/blank#} different places made me feel fresh.

●{#blank#}9{#/blank#} studying, I turned my phone off and put it away.

●I made my weekly study plans and stuck to(坚持){#blank#}10{#/blank#}. These plans were achievable and gave me confidence to move on.
