Tom is a doctor in a hospital. One day, he went to buy some new shoes. Before he left the store, he asked the saleswoman（女售货员）, "How long do you think this pair of shoes will last（持续）?"

"It's hard to say. If you don't use them, the shoes will never wear out（穿坏）,"the saleswoman answered. 

A week later, the saleswoman became ill. She went to the hospital and Tom was her doctor. After Tom gave the woman some medicine, she asked him, "How soon will I get better after taking this medicine?"

"It's hard to say,"Tom answered. "But if you don't take the medicine, you will never get better."

Luke Hayes-Alexander, 32 years old, looks like a typical eighteen-year-old boy. He speaks slowly and is quite shy. However, when he talks about food, he is different! "My life is about food shopping, preparing food and serving." Luke was the executive chef(行政主厨)of Luke's Gastronomy in Kingston, Canada, started by his parents in 1993. When he was a kid, he liked reading cookbooks. Soon, he started helping his father with cooking in the kitchen. At the age of fourteen, Luke left school and decided to learn more about food. Then, at the age of sixteen, he became the chef and started changing the small family restaurant into a center of creative dishes.

Luke cares about his ingredients(原料)a lot:  they all come from local(当地的): arms and he chooses them carefully. Everything in the restaurant is home-made. Even the wine in his restaurant is from his own vineyard(葡萄园)."I enjoy cooking. I hope every ingredient in my dishes is beautiful and fresh and that the customers will enjoy the taste of my food, "he said.

Luke is happy in Toronto. He has many plans and is already working on a new cookbook. And then he would also like to go to Europe in the future to find out more about cooking and talk with some famous cooks. What words does Luke have for other teenagers interested in cooking?" Have fun, get dirty, listen to some good music and cook!"

Do you know rice first came to China? There is an old Chinese story about it. It is about a little girl who went out to fish. At that time, there was very little food, so everybody was very hungry.

One day, when fishing, the little girl suddenly felt her fishing net get heavy. She was so happy! It was the King of Frogs that she found. When the frog heard how hungry the girl was, he wanted to help her. The frog told her to take out her fishing net and let the sun shine on it. The little girl followed his words. Then the King of Frogs began to sing a magic song. The girl was very surprised at what she saw. As the sun shone through the net, the sunlight turned into golden grains（谷粒）of rice. That was how the first rice arrived.

Maybe the story is not true, but it tells us rice is as important as gold to the Chinese. Rice is always one of the main foods on Chinese tables. For many years, much land has been used to grow rice and many Chinese people are farmers, who work very hard for each grain. So it's important not to waste food. Remember, Waste not, want not.

The greatest feeling in the world comes not from receiving gifts or getting good grades in the exams. It starts when you do something for others. You feel it when you drive for an hour to a hospital to meet the sick children. And you feel it when you sit down to comfort（安慰） your friend after her mother died. 

My friend took me to a Youth Group meeting in his school. Then they invited me to join in feeding the homeless. Early that Saturday morning，a group of 15 teenagers began making sandwiches，washing fruit，and counting bags of cookies. For the first time in my life I realized that we，the teens of America，could make a difference. It made me join the Youth Group. 

I work at a coffee shop. It's not the best job，but sometimes it's worth（值得） it. One day，the store was empty and I was bored. I cooking out of the window，I noticed an old man sitting outside. He never came in to buy anything because he didn't have any money. I took a cup of coffee，walked outside，and handed it to him. The smile on his face made my day ， and as I walked back into the store. I paid for the coffee myself. Then I knew how the members of the Youth Group feel every time they help someone. Knowing that you can help others is great. 

The summer holiday is coming. Ben will have a trip to Beijing with his two {#blank#}1{#/blank#}this weekend. His dad will also go and have a meeting. This is a great journey for Ben and he is very {#blank#}2{#/blank#}. Ben knows little about taking a plane. It is his first time to take a plane. However, Ben's father often goes to other places by plane. 

In the morning, they arrive at the airport early. It is very {#blank#}3{#/blank#}. Ben's dad tells Ben what to do. They sit close and wait there for a few minutes. It will take them about four hours to get to Beijing. A few days ago, they {#blank#}4{#/blank#} a hotel far from the Summer Palace because all the other hotels were full (满的) and they had no {#blank#}5{#/blank#}. Ben is really looking forward to the trip.

I love shopping online. I sit in front of the computer for hours. I shop every day. I can always find cheap but good things online. Sometimes I watch movies or listen to songs.
