The first record of a kite was more than 2,000 years ago in China. It's said that Han Xin, the leader of an army wanted to dig a tunnel (隧道) into a king's palace. He flew a kite over the wall of the palace to make sure the length (长度) of its string. In this way, he could decide how long the tunnel should be. Kites have been flown in Japan for hundreds of years. In the 1700s, kites were flown in autumn to give thanks for a good harvest. They were also flown to send good wishes to couples who had their first son. Today in Japan, flying kites is seen as part of a celebration at the beginning of a new year. And kite festivals are held each year in many parts of the country. Kites have been used for science purposes in the western world. The United States Weather Bureau has used box kites to collect weather data for 35 years. How amazing the kites are! Weifang in Shangdong Province is famous for its kites. Weifang International Kite Festival, one of the most famous kite festivals, is held here in April every year. During the festival, people from all over the world come here to compete for the best kites and enjoy themselves. |

Reading can broaden(拓宽)my mind and improve my language skills. Of course, it can also help me to get good grades. Do you know how to read more and learn more?
Here are some tips for you.
{#blank#}1{#/blank#}Before you start reading, ask yourself why you are reading this book. Most people read for two main reasons, pleasure or knowledge. Clearing about your reading purpose can not only help you choose the books you really need to read, but also remind you why reading the book is important to you.
{#blank#}2{#/blank#}No matter what you are reading, it is important to enjoy what you read. Your friends may tell you the books they love, but those books might not necessarily be the ones you enjoy.
{#blank#}3{#/blank#}You may have chosen the books that you are interested in, and they are right to your purpose(目的). But while you are reading them, there may still be some books that you don't enjoy reading. Whenever you realize that you aren't enjoying the book you are reading, give it up.
{#blank#}4{#/blank#}It is interesting that I read the books borrowed from libraries faster than those I bought. The reason is the books I bought don't have a due date(到期日)! I don't need to return those books. Having a reading goal(目标) helps you work out how much reading you need to do in a week or even a day.
