Do you know US writer J. D. Salinger? He was one of the most (众所周知的) writers of the last century. In 1951, he was famous for the novel The Catcher in the Rye. The book has been a huge (成功). Over 60 million copies have been sold. Today many young people are still (影响) by this book.
The story is told by the main character, Holden Caulfield, He doesn't like studying and he thinks it doesn't make (意义). So he is made to leave an expensive school because of his (行为). He should go back to his parents' home, but he has other plans. Then his (冒险) in New York City begins.
What readers love about the book is Holden's voice (心声). He shares his hopes, worries and views about life. Holden (猜想) grown- ups are "phony(虚伪的)". He talks about a grown-up's way of saying goodbye, "I'm always saying 'Glad to have met you' to someone but I'm not glad at all. If you want to stay (活着), you have to say that stuff, though. " This explains why Holden feels closer to children, (特别) his sister, Phoebe. He wants to protect her and other children.
