My name is Emma, My family like1 . My favourite part is when we go on a road2 by car. I like to wave at the people in the other3 . I like to look at the landscape. 

Last week my family went on a road trip to a big farm. We4 through the desert. It was hot,5  the landscape was beautiful. The mountains were red. I6 a horse by myself. It was a friendly7 . At night we ate dinner around a campfire. That was very fun. 

We're going to take a trip to the8 next Saturday. I like to pick up shells(贝壳)there, so I'm very9 .

The beach is far from our home. It will be a10 drive. We will stop for lunch at a restaurant. l like reading. Maybe I will11 a book in the car. My dad knows a lot of12 . Maybe he will tell a funny story. 

l don't know13 the road trip will be like, but I do14 it will be fun. Like my parents15 say, "Getting there is half the fun."

Are you nervous when you stand in front of the public? Are you afraid to make a speech?

Li Jun, a middle school boy felt shy when he was making a speech the other day. Before that, Li had thought it would be quite easy to speak in front of 1 classmates. 

"I was wrong. It was very different and much 2 than talking to my classmates during playtime," Li said. "I tried, but it was really difficult to speak. I felt like a mute (哑巴) and wanted to leave the classroom 3 ."

Li is not alone. Many middle school students now have the same 4 : they can talk about their ideas freely 5 their best friends after class, but can't speak in public. According to Zhou Hong, a teacher from a university, the main reason is that schools in China pay more attention to writing instead of 6 . 

Zhou hopes schools can give students more chances to open their 7 , such as speech competitions, English corners and class discussions. Students can join in any one they want. 8 he also gives some advice to students. "During your free time you should 9 more. When you're speaking in public, take it easy. Just imagine you're talking to nobody and speak up your ideas clearly," Zhou said. "That 10 a fine public speech and you'll feel confident."

I'm Tony. From a young age, I began to love skiing.I have skied since I was eight or nine years old. But once in the USA I was close to death.

It was April 1st, 2011. I skied in the Tetons with my friends Jeremy and Xavier. While I was skiing, they were watching me in a safe area, Then I turned  around and saw the whole mountain start to move behind me. It was a massive avalanche. Thousands of tons of snow was coming down the mountain behind me. I felt that the snow pushed me forward hundreds of meters,and then covered me.

It was so heavy that I couldn't move. And then it pushed me forward again.

I looked down into the bottom of the valley(山谷).  "OK, I'm going all the way to the bottom! " I thought. Then the snow pushed me again down the mountains. I thought the snow would destroy me. But in the end, I felt the avalanche slow down and I just jumped out of the snow at the bottom of the valley.

It took Jeremy and Xavier about 20 minutes to find me. They couldn't believe it when they saw me. I was so lucky.

Has the experience changed me? Do I think about life differently? I don't know, but I do know that it's important to live your life seriously. Life is a gift, so use it wisely.

A dog found some meat. He got it and ran away as{#blank#}1{#/blank#}as he could. On his way home, he had to go{#blank#}2{#/blank#}a small river. Just as he was going over, he looked down. In the river, he saw a dog with{#blank#}3{#/blank#}meat. 

"l must have that meat, too, "he said. "I{#blank#}4{#/blank#}it from that dog. "As he opened his{#blank#}5{#/blank#}. His own piece fell, and was lost in the water. 

I have a friend. Its name is Rock and it is my best friend. It comes with me everywhere I go. I can put my best 1 in my pocket or hold it in my hand. If I go out 2 my friend, it will always wait for me at home whenI 3 .

Rock is a great friend 4 it listens well and doesn't talk over me. I can tell Rock mybiggëst secrets(秘密) and it won't 5 anyone. Rock is a friend I can believe.

I have much fun: with Rock. When I finish school, Rock and I read comic books 6 . I read the stories out when Rock holds the pages for me. I don't think Rock can 7 really well, so I describe(描述) the pictures. Sometimes I don't tell what the 8 exactly(准确地) show. But I'm not telling lies-it's called being creative(有创造力的). 9 make a good team in that way. I think I'm very 10 to have such a friend.

Did you watch the Chengdu FISU World University Games (成都大运会) in 2023? Many student-athletes saw{#blank#}1{#/blank#} sporting dreams come true at the Games, A{#blank#}2{#/blank#} of young Chinese athletes did very well at the Games, including Xia Yuyu. 

Xia Yuyu is a 25-year-old student from Tsinghua University. She has become a big winner at the FISU World University Games {#blank#}3{#/blank#} Chengdu. She is the most tired and the {#blank#}4{#/blank#} athlete at the Games. She took part in four competitions in six days. She won a gold medal in the{#blank#}5{#/blank#} 10, 000 meters, a silver medal in the women's 5, 000 meters and a bronze (铜) medal in the women's team half marathon (马拉松) . Many people were{#blank#}6{#/blank#} by her wonderful performance. 

Before the Games, she ran for 30 kilometers during training each day. {#blank#}7{#/blank#}she knew how hard it was to win the gold medal at the Games, she {#blank#}8{#/blank#}up her mind not to give up. 

"I {#blank#}9{#/blank#} want to thank my university, which helped me solve many problems during preparations for the Games in Chengdu. It's not been easy for my {#blank#}10{#/blank#}who has had to attend to all the details of my training and daily life." Xia said.
