A neighbor of mine, while visiting his mother in Boston, took her to a shoe store to buy a new pair of shoes. While she was trying on different styles, my neighbor took the manager（经理）beside him. "When she picks out a pair that she likes,' he said, "just tell her that the price is 12 dollars. I'll pay the regular price. I don't care how much it is.'

The following week, my neighbor was walking by the shoe store and the manager recognized (认出)him and called him in.

"What's the problem?' asked my neighbor as he entered the store.

"Wasn't my check any good?'

"That's not it,' answered the manager, "The problem is that your mother is bringing all her friends in for those 12-dollar shoes!'

Last week I went to an art show. A painting caught my eyes. To my amazement, it was painted by Steven, one of my {#blank#}1{#/blank#}. Then many things about him came into my mind.

Steven was from a poor family. His parents{#blank#}2{#/blank#}not afford to buy him some basic things that he needed. Once our school provided gloves for poor children. I put Steven's name on the list. He was so {#blank#}3{#/blank#} when he received a pair. He loved to wear them and they were always {#blank#}4{#/blank#} than anybody else's. 

Steven had a gift(天赋) for painting and he could {#blank#}5{#/blank#} understand what I described in class. But he didn't have money to buy the paper for painting. So sometimes, I {#blank#}6{#/blank#} him some. He parctised hard. And I often showed his paintings of the class. He was greatly {#blank#}7{#/blank#}.

One day just before the summer vacation, he came to {#blank#}8{#/blank#} some art books. When the new term began, he showed some of {#blank#}9{#/blank#} paintings to me. I felt shocked . They were very good. Then we talked a lot. He said he would keep on. 

Later he was admitted(录取) to a famous art university. After graduation, he had many difficulties, but he never gave up. He was always {#blank#}10{#/blank#} his best to improve himself. His hard work and strong mind led to his success.

③Potato chips and French fries are very popular in the US. They are cheap but tasty. But they are high in calories and eating too much may make you fat. Popcorn is another typical snack. People eat it when they are watching sports games or visiting the amusement park. Most cinemas also sell popcorn. 

④In the UK, many people sit down for snacks at around 4 pm every day. They call it"afternoon tea". Traditional afternoon tea is biscuits and tea. People also have scones(烤饼) with jam and cream, which is probably the most classical English snack. Potato chips and French fries are popular in the UK too. 

⑤Do you want to eat snacks in a healthy way? Here are some helpful tips. Have a look! A handful of walnuts (核桃) are great for your brain. But a whole bag will add nothing but fat. If you're crazy about chocolate, try a hot chocolate drink instead of a chocolate bar. Don't eat too many snacks after dinner. 

 One evening, a little monkey plays in a forest and finds the moon in a well(井). He runs back home and tells1 mother first. "Mum! The moon is in the well!" The mother monkey can see the moon in the well too. "2 bad day! The moon is in the well!" She runs 3 to call the father monkey.

 The little monkey wants 4 the moon. So he asks his grandpa for help. Soon his uncles, aunts, brothers, sisters and cousins all arrive. They say, "Oh! The moon is in the well! Let's help it!" Later they have a very5 idea. The grandpa monkey hangs upside down(倒挂) from a tree. He catches the next 6 feet. All the monkeys are one by one down to the moon in 7 well.

 The grandpa monkey looks at the sky8 he finds the moon is still there. He talks 9 them," Look! The moon 10 in the sky!" As a result, all the monkeys feel relieved(放心的) to look at the moon.
