It used to be that people would drink coffee or tea in the morning to pick them up and get them going for the day. Then cola drinks hit the market. With lots of caffeine and sugar, these drinks soon became the pick-me-up of choice for many adults and teenagers. Now drink companies are putting out so-called "energy drinks." These drinks have the specific aim of giving tired customers more energy.

One example of a popular energy drink is Red Bull. The company that puts out this drink has reported that Red Bull is not a thirst quencher (解渴饮料). Instead, the drink is meant to revitalize(使恢复生机) a tired customer's body and mind. In order to do this, the makers of Red Bull, and other energy drinks, typically add vitamins and certain chemicals to their drinks. The added chemicals are like chemicals that the body naturally produces for energy. The vitamins, chemicals, caffeine, and sugar found in these drinks all seem to give a person energy.

Health experts are not so sure, though. For one thing, there is not enough evidence(证据) to show that all of the vitamins added to energy drinks actually raise a person's energy level. Another problem is that there are so many things in the drinks. Nobody knows for sure how all of the ingredients in energy drinks work together.

Dr. Brent Bauer cautions (告诚) people about believing all the claims (申明) energy drinks make. He says, "It may be true if you put these twelve things together, you will get a good result." However Dr. Bauer adds the mix of ingredients could also have a negative impact (负面影响) on the body "We just don't know at this point," he says.

Every school day, we use schoolbags to carry all of our things to school. They are a big part of our lives. But have you ever thought about the history of the schoolbag?'. 

In the Han Dynasty（汉朝）, students in old - style private schools used bamboo boxes to carry books to school. People consider the bamboo boxes to be the earliest schoolbags. There were usually two or three layers（层）in the box. Kids put different things like books, brushes, ink stones（砚）and paper in the boxes. 

Hundreds of years later, people developed a new kind of schoolbag called the budai, or the " hip - pocket ". The budai was lighter than the bamboo box. With the founding (成立) of the People's Republic of China, military rucksacks（军用背包 )became popular. Many people carried them when they were in school. Ask your grandparents or parents about these bags. Maybe they can tell you about their experiences of carrying them when they were in school. 

A new style of schoolbags has appeared in recent years. Many of them have colorful and fashionable designs（时尚的设计） on them, such as pictures of cartoons or pop stars. And they are more comfortable to use. Some students pull wheeled bags filled with heavy textbooks and others carry backpacks. 

Schoolbags are still changing. Can you imagine what future schoolbags will be like?

Today, people want to keep healthy through sports and exercise. But some of them have some wrong ideas about it. "A plate of chicken is a good meal before games because it has much energy."

In fact, the best meal before games should have carbohydrates（碳水化合物）. Food like potatoes, bread, bananas are rich in it, but chicken and meat are not.

"The best time to exercise is early in the morning."

No. Morning is a good time to exercise, but it may not be suitable for you. If an afternoon or evening is suitable for you, and you enjoy the feeling of getting healthier, you can choose any time to exercise. So there is no fixed time for you to exercise.

"If you drink water when you exercise, you'll feel tired."

The fact is that you must have some water during breaks（休息时间）when you exercise. And after exercising, you must have enough water. If you don't drink enough water, then you may feel tired.

"Exercising every day is quite important."

Wrong. Too much exercise is bad for your health. You need to give your body a day of rest.

 In Sydney, more than 400 people {#blank#}6{#/blank#} are from the Australian Chinese community. {#blank#}7{#/blank#}( includa) more than 70 overseas Chinese {#blank#}8{#/blank#}( lead) from Sydney and other places, gathered together. In San Francisco, more than a thousand people from various social groups, civil organizations, friends, and media at home and abroad gathered to pray for China. This year marks the {#blank#}9{#/blank#}( four) year that the London Chinatown Chinese Association has hosted an Ancest or Worship Ceremony for overseas Chinese in the UK, which {#blank#}10{#/blank#}( great) helps overseas Chinese to " seek their roots and build their dreams" as well.

Early in May, a man took me to a new home at Birtwick Park. The owner called mc"Black Beauty". Here I met my friend, another horse, Ginger. One day, my owner decided to visit some friends. His groom(马夫), James, drove him.

 As evening fell, we stopped at a large hotel. A stableman brought us into the stable(马厩) and two grooms looked after us. One groom, Towler, had a pipc(烟斗) in his mouth.

"Towler, get these horses something to eat. Put your pipe down first!" said the stableman.

"All right," said Towler.

 At night, I felt uncomfortable and woke up. Ginger was coughing. It was dark, and I could see nothing.____ . It was full of smoke(烟) and hard to breathe. I was very afraid.

 The stableman came in and wanted to lead the horses out but they were in fear. Then he tried to pull me out, but I did not want to go. Finally, he left the stable alone.

Certainly, we were very silly, but danger seemed to be all round and there was nobody we could trust. All was strange and unsure.

"Black Beauty, come with me!" James ran to me and said. He always gave us hope. His voice made me calm(镇静的). He put his scarf over my eyes and led me out of the stable. Then, he ran back inside. I shouted at him worriedly when I saw him go. Ginger told me later that she heard my voice and became brave enough to come out. Then I saw James coming out with Ginger.

 The next morning, we felt sad when hearing that two horses died in the stable. Towler was responsible(担责任的) for the fire. The night before,a man saw him in the stable with a pipe in his mouth. At Birtwick Park, the rule was"no pipes in the stable" and it was a very good rule.
