It was Friday afternoon. The students were having the last1 of this week. At the end of the class, the teacher2 the students to bring some tomatoes in a bag to school the next Monday. "And you should give each tomato a3 of the person you don't like. If you don't like five persons, you should bring five tomatoes. "the teacher said. 

The students didn't know why, but they felt glad4 they didn't need to do homework at the weekend. On Monday, all the students brought tomatoes. Some had two, some had six, and some5 had twenty in their bags. 

The teacher said, "This week, all of you have to6 these bags with you, anywhere you go for the whole week. "The students7 happily. Then it was Friday again. The tomatoes smelt8 as they already lost their freshness. "How did you9 this week?" the teacher asked. All the students complained about (抱怨) the smell. Some also talked about the heavy weight (重量) of their bags because they carried10 tomatoes. 

The teacher smiled and said, "These tomatoes are similar (相似的) to what you carry in your 11 . When you don't like someone, you carry that hatred (厌恶) everywhere and it makes your heart12 . You can't stand the13 and weight of these tomatoes for a week. Then how can your heart stand14 feelings when you carry them every day?"

The students looked at their tomatoes and15 the teacher's words. They decided to forgive (原谅) those who had hurt them and only keep good things in mind. 

① Do you have a dog? What can your dog do for you? Do you know that dogs can read our feelings? Now some people find that dogs can smell (v.闻到; n.嗅觉) people's stress (压力).

②Dogs really are man's best friends. They have special smell. A new study said that dogs can smell if people are feeling stressed. Teachers at Queen's University, UK, made the study. They got breath(呼吸)and sweat(汗) from people both before and after doing a hard maths problem. They looked at the people's heart rate (心率), blood pressure (血压) and stress feeling in the study. Dogs can smell the difference in breath and sweat from people. Then they can know when people are stressed.

③The finding is wonderful: the dogs found stress in 675 of the 720 people. It could be 93.75% right! Australian News reported. The study's writer Clara Wilson said, "stress can change people's breath and sweat. Dogs are very good at smelling these changes." In the study, she also said, "this finding helps us learn that how dogs may know people's feelings."

④ This finding shows how special the bond is between people and dogs. The finding also tells us that dogs are very clever. And maybe dogs can help stressed people.

When I had something difficult to do, I used to ask my mother for help. But she always said, "Do it yourself, dear." I was not glad at all. I thought she was the {#blank#}1{#/blank#} mother in the world!

For example, one day, I decided to invite some friends to my home. My bedroom was not in order. Books were everywhere. And I didn't {#blank#}2{#/blank#}. I asked my mother to help me clean it, but she still said, " Do it yourself, girl."

Because of my "lazy mother" , I have to {#blank#}3{#/blank#} my clothes and clean my room. I have to help my parents cook food and I even have to go to the dentist by myself. It is really hard for me to do everything {#blank#}4{#/blank#}, but I have learned a lot.

As time goes by, I understand my mother. She makes me clever and hard-working!

Turning Garbage into New Earth

My father is a quiet and shy man. He has his own creative ideas, but he 1  keeps them to himself. Don't get me wrong. If you ask him for advice, he is always glad to 2  his ideas with you. He goes about his business without too much excitement. There is one thing that really gets him 3 . Just mention the word "rubbish" to him! He is especially interested in 4  the rubbish problem. "We've become a throwaway society. We buy something, and then we throw it away. We shouldn't5  doing this, " he said. 

Last year, my father decided to do something about the wasted 6  we were throwing away. A family 7  nearly 500 pounds of food waste each year. Don't 8 , though. There is something that we can do about it. Food waste is also known 9 "organic matter(有机物)". If it is properly 10 , it can be changed from rubbish to compost(混合肥料) which can be added to vegetable gardens to make the plants grow really well. 

"We are going to start composting our food waste, "11  decided one night at dinner. "I bought a compost bin today. From now on, we should put all our food waste in the compost bin 12  throwing it away. Nature will slowly 13  it into compost. In a few months, we will have rich compost to add to our 14  . "

 It took a while to get used to it, 15  soon, we all got into the habit of taking our food waste to the compost bin in the backyard. Three months later, we were excited to find the bin full of rich compost!

①Zhang Guimei, a teacher in the mountainous area of Yunnan, set up a free high school for girls with support from the Communist Party of China(中国共产党) and local government. Around 2,000 girls from poor families who went to the school went on to study at various universities. In the past 10 years, the Party of China and government have worked hard to make sure all children can receive an education. One way to help fill the educational gap(差距) between urban and rural areas is the use of 5G and other new technologies. 

②Guizhou Normal University has worked with Huawei to set up a "5G+ rural education" laboratory and taught "5G+ rural education" courses online. English, music, art, science, biology, and other high-quality courses were provided to rural schools in the area through the platform(平台). A high school in Guizhou started the "5G rural education" project in October 2021. More lively and interesting courses can improve students' interest in learning and teaching quality.

③According to Yu Minhong, a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference(中国人民政治协商会议全国委员会), in the future, a widely applied 5G network will reduce the cost of educational information in primary and secondary schools in rural and remote (偏远的) areas.

④Thanks to the effort from all sides, 5G technology does shorten the educational gap. With the development of technology, it's not a dream for students even in remote areas to receive high-quality education.

My English teacher, Elaine, is like a big sister to us, who always cares for her students. Once I {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (遭受) from menstrual cramps (痛经), but I couldn't find my water{#blank#}2{#/blank#} (瓶子). She showed up like an angel and brought it to me with hot water in it. I was {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (深深地) moved and my pain was gone. From Elaine, I also learned I should care for others as much as possible. 

I was not very good at math. Although I worked hard, I often {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (未能够；失败) to get a satisfactory (令人满意的) score. Seeing my frustration (沮丧), my math teacher Ms Gu did everything to encourage me. One day when I opened my exercise book, I was{#blank#}5{#/blank#} (惊讶的；意外的) to find that there were some words next to the mark. "Believe in yourself and keep trying!" Tears welled up (涌上) in my eyes. 

From that day on, I have {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (收到) many little notes from Ms Gu. Thanks to her love and encouragement, my math grades have improved. And I am more positive and confident now, even in the face of difficulties. 

Ms Shentu was my Chinese teacher in primary school. {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (在……期间) her free time, she would chat with students like friends. I still remember once we had a wonderful experience on a snowy day. When the class was struggling (努力) with final exam preparation, instead of pushing us to study, Ms Shentu {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (设法完成) to make some spare time from our busy schedule and let us play in the snow for a {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (全部的；整体的) lesson! Throwing snowballs and making snowmen, the students were filled with joy. Those joyful {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (回忆) will always remain vivid (生动的) in my mind.
