A student walks into the teacher's office with his heavy schoolbag slowly and looks worried. "What's happening?" the teacher asks. He tells a lot of small things that make him really unhappy. Then the teacher stops working and decides to do something to help the little boy.

He asks the student to get a glass of water and some salt* from a box. The teacher asks the student to put the salt into the glass of water and drink it.

"How does it taste*?"the teacher asks.

"It doesn't taste good."the student answers.

The teacher doesn't say anything else, but asks the student to get the same amount* of salt and go with the teacher to a nearby lake.

"Put the salt into the lake,"the teacher says. The student does what the teacher says.

"Now, taste the water from the lake,"the teacher says.

The student gets some water from the lake with his hands and tastes, the teacher asks,"How does it taste?"

"Fresh and a bit sweet,"the student answers quickly.

"Do you taste the salt?"the teacher asks.

"No,"the student shakes his head.

The teacher sits beside the student,"The pain* of life is just like salt—no more, no less.

However, how salty it tastes depends* on the container* you put the pain in."

"How do you feel now?"asks the teacher.

The student looks at the teacher with a big smile. He feels much better now.

"Thank you for giving me such a lesson. I think I will never forget the taste of them and learn to be a lake."

Sara got up early this morning. Today she and her family were going on a hike （远足）. It was Sara's first hike. 

They drove for two hours. Then Sara's mother stopped the car at the foot of the mountain. Sara, her parents and her brother began to walk. There were a lot of tall trees and flowers. Butterflies and bees（蜜蜂） flew around. Sara felt afraid of the bees at first, but soon she didn't because she found the bees were more interested in the flowers. 

After walking for an hour, Sara was tired. "Come on, Sara," said her brother. "You can do it! You're ten years old. That's old enough to hike. " Sara kept going and looking around. There was green grass everywhere. She saw a small rabbit in the grass. Sara shouted in surprise and the rabbit ran away quickly. 

Another hour passed. They got to the top of the mountain. Sara's mother began to take out their picnic （野餐）. There were hamburgers, eggs, beef and juice. "Congratulations, Sara!" said her father. "You have just finished your first hike!" Sara smiled. She thought she liked hiking. 

What are school days of junior high like in America? Do American students have the same school life as we do in China? And what do they often do on weekends?

In fact, it takes about six hours a day for American students to study from Monday to Friday. They don't have morning reading. They have four lessons in the morning and three lessons in the afternoon. They don't have lessons in the same classroom. They often go different classrooms to have different lessons. And students often sit around teachers and discuss(讨论) problems with them. They have little homework after school. They often do sports, listen to music or read books.

American students' weekend life is very colourful. On Friday evening, they usually have a party, go to the movies or have a meal at a restaurant. On Saturday, they often help their parents with some housework. On Sunday, they do their homework and stay with their family.
