I'm Peter. My family will have a sale at my yard on Saturday. It will be from 10: 00 am to 6: 00pm. We have lots of things on sale because my parents want to make our house look new. 

l want to sell my bookcase(书柜). It's orange, my favourite colour. But it is too small for me. I have lots of books about history and science. I have no place to put them. 

l also want to change my chair, because it's uncomfortable and I don't like the green colour. And I have to sell my desk too. It is the same colour as the chair. My yellow curtains(窗帘)don't look very good. They are old. I hope to have new curtains. I also want to sell my old brown bed. But my parents don't think it is OK.

Are you free this Saturday? Please come to my house and have a look. 

Stupid but serious

You see a cat sunbathing on the playground. "Hello, kitty!" You smile and walk away. About100 years ago, a scientist saw the same scene(场景). But he stopped and thought. Later, he won the Nobel Prize(诺贝尔奖).

The scientist was Niels Finsen from Denmark(丹麦). He saw a sick cat sleeping in the sun. When the sun moved, the cat moved, too. Why did the cat love the sun so much? To find out the answer, Niels kept watching the cat for days. Amazingly, the cat got better after lots of sunbathing. The sunlight could cure diseases! Then, Niels invented a light to cure human diseases and won the Nobel Prize in 1903.

In fact, many great scientific findings start from "stupid" questions and small things in life.

Scientists may ask: How many lies does a person tell in a day? How many licks(舔)does it take to eat up a lollipop? Why do roses smell good? What can we learn from animal poop(粪便)? And they take it seriously. They watch, think, and do experiments(实验) until they find an answer.

"It's such a waste of time!" You may say.

But think of the great scientist Newton(牛顿). If he just said "Ouch!" and walked away after he was hit by the apple, what might our world be like?

Sara is fourteen years old. She gets up at seven o'clock in the morning and has breakfast at seven thirty. Then she goes to school by bus. After the lessons she plays in the park with her friends and they like flying kites. Sara goes home at five o'clock in the afternoon. She has dinner with her mother and father. Her father likes cooking and he is good at it! Sara goes to bed at half past nine in the evening.

Sara likes doing sports. She often plays football. She thinks it is interesting! But she doesn't like playing basketball. In summer, Sara likes to go camping (野营) with her grandpa. She doesn't like to help her grandma in the garden (花园). It's not interesting!

I walked into the Huddle House Restaurant in Brunswick, Georgia and sat down at the table. I picked up the menu and was to order something for breakfast.

"Excuse me,"

I looked up and1 a nice-looking woman standing before me.

"Is your name Roger?"2 asked.

"Yes, " I answered, feeling rather surprised as I had never seen her before.

"My name's Barbara and my3 is Tony," She said, pointing to a middle-aged man sitting alone at the table by the window. He was4 and weak.

"Tony White, from Landon School in Jacksonville, Florida," she added.

I looked at that man for a few seconds5 I didn't know him.

"I'm really sorry. The name doesn't  ring the bell," I said.

She walked back, began6 with her husband and once in a while I saw her turn around and look at me.

I ordered breakfast and a cup of7 , sitting there, trying to remember who this Tony was. "I8 know him," I thought to myself. "He knows me for some reason. " I picked up the coffee cup. All of a sudden(突然), it came to me like a flash of lightning. (一道闪电)

"Tony, the bully, the bad boy!" I could9 believe (相信) my eyes. "My God! He's so thin now. Not the big boy that I10 from back in 1997. "

Everything came up to my mind. The time this11 boy had made fun of my big ears in front of the girls in my class, and the time this big bully had pushed(推) me against the walls in the hallway just to make himself12 a big man to all other students.

"I am sorry, Roger," Tony rolled by me in the wheelchair(轮椅), being pushed by his wife, raising his thin, shaking hand. "I am so sorry for13 that I did to you. "

"I'm…I'm  er…" I didn't know14 to say to him.

After a few months, I got a letter from Barbara. Tony was15 . Tony had been a fireman and had been seriously wounded (受伤) in a task.

How I regretted (后悔) for not saying something to him but I no longer had the chance!

I used to hate running. At secondary school I found it very tired to run around the sports field and I was always one of the 1 students to cross the finish line. Then, in 2020, my friend asked me to run with him. My 2 was, " No way!I hate running".

 During the weekend I thought about his question. " Why do I hate running?" I thought, In the end I decided to 3 it. I told my friend I would like to run with him. He was 4 to hear that. He advised me to look for a running program on the Internet to 5 me learn how to run. There were lots of running programs on the Internet. I 6 a 14- week running program. I would attend a match when I finished the program. I had to run three times a week. At first, I ran for short periods of 7 and had long breaks. Then 8 the weeks went on, I had to run far longer periods of time and the breaks got 9 . I enjoyed following the running program each week. Now I can run for 10 than 30 minutes each time!I went from 11 running to loving running.

 On the day of the 12 I was both excited and nervous. 13 was finally time to put my new skills into practice. My friends and family came to support me. It was lovely to have them there. With their support and my training. I managed to finish the 10000- metre run in 72 minutes. I was very 14 of that.

 From this experience I 15 it was a good idea to try something before saying I hated it! Because it turned out that I really enjoyed running.

It was the start of Daylight Savings Time, the night when we all move our 1 forward an hour. I didn't want to wake up too early and I didn't want to sleep too 2 . This, of course, only caused me to overthink things and wake up in the middle of the night. 

 When I woke up, though, I was confused by how quiet the room was. The desk fan was running, the electric heater(电热器) worked and was running 3 , but it still seemed strangely quiet to me. Something still seemed to be missing. It was only then that I realized I hadn' t 4 any snoring(鼾声) for a long time. My lovely dog, Snoopy, 5 over a year ago. As she got older and her health got 6 , she started to snore loudly when she slept. At first, I found her snoring annoying, which made it even harder for me to fall asleep myself. Yet, as time passed, it became 7 . She became my personal white noise machine. When I woke up during the night, her snoring would 8 me and ease (使容易) me back to sleep. 

 Now her snoring was gone and it was so quiet. My new dog, Sweetie, slept silently curled up(蜷缩) in her corner. I sighed(叹气) and 9 all the joy Snoopy had given me over the years. She never judged me, she never argued with me, and each day she gave me the gifts of laughter and unconditional(无条件的) 10 . 

 Life here is short for dogs and us. Enjoy each second of it and enjoy the pleasure it brings.
