"Mummy，I don't like you，" my three﹣year﹣old daughter said.

That night，as I washed my face，I looked for a little longer time in the mirror — not because I was hurt by my daughter's1 ，but because I noticed there was no light in my eyes.

I took out a pen and started writing a list — a list to2 myself；a list to put sparkles back into my eyes.I once made many lists but seldom completed anything.This time would be3 !

The first goal on my list I wanted to achieve was joining a Polar Plunge （极地冬泳） to raise money for the Special Olympics.On that day，when I4 on my 1980s workout clothes，Jenny smiled，"Mummy，just maybe some light came back to my eyes.

When coming out of the cold lake，I felt happy and proud. I kept screaming， "I5

it!" But one of the most exciting parts of the day was when I stood in front of my6 ，which was taped on the refrigerator door.I crossed item number one.With that，I began to take back my life.

Everyone taking part in the Polar Plunge received a shirt. Whenever I wore it，Jenny asked， "Is that your Polar Plunge clothing？" I answered proudly, " Yes!" " I was happy she remembered I jumped into a 7 lake, and that she wanted to do activities with me.

With each goal8 off the list，piece of myself is returning. Not only am I showing my family it's important to dream，but I'm showing myself that I'm worth it.

Tom Avery is one of the only 41 people ever to have reached both the South and North Poles. He was born in December 1975 and brought up in England, Brazil and France. His passion(强烈爱好) for adventure began when he was just seven years old and first read about the expeditions(探险) of famous explorers.Perhaps this was the start of his plan to put together the ultimate(终极的) joumey —— to the very top of the world, the North Pole, following the route taken by Robert Peary in his 1909 adventure.

Both Peary and Avery set off from Cape Columbia in Canada. Peary had a larger team and in fact had four support groups. Every 160 kilometers, a group would leave plenty of food and then turn back. The team therefore got smaller the further north they travelled. While Avery didn't have as many on his team, they did have food dropped by plane for them at four locations.

Avery's team also had the obvious benefit of modern technology, but Avery doesn't believe this made a big difference. He credits (把……归功于) his team's success to the 16 Inuit dogs that pull the sledges(雪橇)."It wouldn't have been possible without them,"he said."Your speed depends on the dogs and how quickly you can get a sledge through the ice."His team were travelling at the end of winter and this meant that the ice was thinner and could easily break under a person's weight. This was an added danger.

Another difference between both men's journeys was that Peary was far more experienced than Avery and had already been on several trips to the Arctic.

Peary claimed(声称) to have reached the North Pole in 39 days, but some historians argue that this was not possible. Avery's team actually beat this time and became the fastest to get there on foot. Avery says,"We told everyone we could do it and that we wouldn't fail. But it certainly wasn't easy."

Mount Qomolangma is the highest mountain in the world. It is in Asia, which is home to all five of the world's highest mountains. Mount Qomolangma's peak (顶峰) is 5.5 miles above sea level. That is very high! So many climbers have tried to climb to the top of it to prove (证明) themselves. The first people to reach the peak were Sir Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay. Since then, thousands of people have succeeded in climbing to the peak of Mount Qomolangma.

One of the most successful climbers is Erik Weihenmayer. Like all who try to climb this huge mountain, Erik faced strong winds, snow, and avalanches (雪崩). However, what really made Erik's climb unbelievable is the fact that he can't see anything. After losing his vision (视力) at age 13, Erik began climbing at age 16. He has climbed the tallest mountains on all seven continents (大陆). Erik became the first blind person to reach the peak of Mount Qomolangma.

At the age of 32, Erik began his climb as part of a 19-member team. His team wore bells (铃) that he could follow during his climb, and teammates were quick to warn him of such things as a big drop on the right or a rock to the left. Erik also used long climbing poles (爬杆) and an ice ax (冰斧) to feel his way across the ice, rock, and snow on the mountain.

During his climb, Erik faced many dangers. The higher Erik climbed, the thinner the air became, so he wore an oxygen mask. This helped him breathe (呼吸) as he climbed higher and higher. It took Erik about two and a half months to reach the top of this unbelievable mountain.

Every time we go into a museum, we are often told, " Don't touch that!" The Please Touch Museum in Philadelphia is just the opposite. The museum encourages visitors {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(touch) everything. 

My first visit to the museum {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(be) one year ago. We were very {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(excite) when Mum told us its name. She told us that we could climb, jump, and touch all the {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(thing) in the museum. 

This place is more like {#blank#}5{#/blank#} playground rather than a museum. It gives kids the chance to learn through {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (play). I had to be pulled out {#blank#}7{#/blank#} the museum when it was time to leave. How much I loved this place!

I {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(especial) enjoyed the very large water table and grocery (食品杂货店). I had {#blank#}9{#/blank#} much fun that I didn't even realise I was learning. 

The only problem is that this place gets crowded very quickly at weekends. {#blank#}10{#/blank#} you don't want to be immersed in(浸没于) the sea of people, get there early.
