Chopsticks were invented by ancient Chinese. They are usually two long, thin pieces of wood or bamboo. Also, they can 1 plastic, metal or other things.

The Chinese have used chopsticks for five thousand years. People probably 2 their food in large pots, using twigs (树枝) to take out of it. Over time, 3 the population grew, people began cutting food into small pieces so it would cook more quickly. Food in small pieces could be eaten easily with twigs which 4 turned into chopsticks.

Some people think that the great Chinese thinker Confucius (孔子), who lived from about 551 to 479 B.C., influenced the 5 of chopsticks. Confucius believed that chopsticks were safer to use, compared to knives and forks in western countries.

Ieoh Ming Pei was a Chinese-American architect（建筑师）. He was born {#blank#}1{#/blank#} April 26, 1917, in Guangzhou, China. And he {#blank#}2{#/blank#}(die) in 2019. However, he will be remembered by people all over {#blank#}3{#/blank#} world.

From an early age, Ieoh Ming Pei had great {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(interesting) in architecture. Pei moved to the United States when he was 17 years old. Then, he went to MIT and studied architecture there. In 1940, he {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(successful) got a bachelor's degree（学士学位）in architecture at MIT.

After {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(finish) his studies in MIT, Pei continued his studies at Harvard Graduate School of Design. During World War II, Pei took a break from his education. In 1944, he returned to Harvard {#blank#}7{#/blank#} got his master's degree（硕士学位）in architecture two years later. In 1955, Pei set up {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(he) own company, I.M.Pei & Associates. One of his {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(one) major projects（项目）was the Mile High Center in Denver, Colorado.

Ieoh Ming Pei was easy-going and he never wanted {#blank#}10{#/blank#} (show) off. However, most people thought he was a great teacher of modern architecture. In 1983, he was awarded the Pritzker Architecture Prize for his contributions to his field.

How can you remember a song for a long time? Why does your teacher use songs to teach you English? Do you know there is a scientific (科学的) reason for this?

Scientists are studying the relationship between music and remembering a foreign language. They found that remembering words in a song is the best way to remember even the most difficult language. 

"Singing could be a new way of learning a foreign language. The brain (大脑) likes to remember things in a catchy and relaxing way. For example, children can remember difficult words quickly when they are in a song," said Dr Lude. "If children find it difficult to learn foreign languages," Dr Lude wrote, "a listen- and- repeat (重复) singing method can support foreign language learning, and open the door for future research in this area."

Many language teachers know the importance of music and they often use it in teaching and learning. Hua Zhuying, a teacher at a Chinese language school in America, likes using songs to teach Chinese. " We usually use English songs but teach them the Chinese lyrics (歌词), so it's easy to start because they know the music, " she said. "Sometimes I think if I learnt English that way when I was young, maybe I could speak English much better than now."
