I stood by the window, looking at the gray sky and snowy ground. A woman crossed the street, with a thick scarf, looking cold and unhappy.

The morning was ideal for reading, so I turned on the light and lay in bed with a book. The phone rang, and I heard my mum agree to something, mentioning my name. Curious, I wondered what was happening.

Mum entered and told me Uncle Sam was taking me to Sparrow Hills. Unwilling to leave on such a cold day, I hesitated(犹豫) but didn't want to disappoint Mum, so I put on my blue sweater. The doorbell rang, and Uncle Sam asked if I was ready.

"I suppose," I replied, grabbing a warm wool hat. We headed to the station, catching the train to Sparrow Hills. The train was warm, and my body started to relax.

" Can we just stay on the train?" I said as the train stopped. Uncle Sam softly pulled me up and said," You will miss all the fun."

Outside, the wind was blowing strongly. The trees were shining and they s wung in the wind.

"I don't know how long I can stay out here," I said as we started to walk uphill. He pulled me closer to the trees and said," Listen!"

At first, I heard only the wind. Then came a jingling and chiming(叮叮当当)." That's the music in winter," my uncle said. I pulled my hat up to free my ears. The branches(树枝) sounded like hundreds of bells ringing, jingling and chiming. I was surprised and I stood still, looking at the icy branches hitting each other and leaves swinging in the wind. Then we climbed to the top of Sparrow Hills and looked down. The snow- covered trees made buildings appear brighter. Then the sun broke through the clouds.

" The sun is shining!" I shouted. Uncle Sam smiled and said," The sun is always shining. You just need to climb high enough to see it."

This winter holiday, my family and I went to Beijing for a trip. We went to many places of interest. My favourite one was Peking University. 

Peking University is one of the best universities in China. We walked into the school from the east gate. There are many traditional buildings in the university. The most famous is the Boya Pagoda (博雅塔) built in 1924, it is a great example of the traditional Chinese building style. 

We then walked to the Weiming Lake with a long history. The lake is another popular place in the university. The word "weiming" means"without being named" in Chinese. Many students like to walk around the lake. During the winter, the lake is frozen. Students can walk or skate on the lake. 

As we walked around the school, we saw some modern teaching buildings, classrooms, libraries and labs. There are also museums in the university. We really enjoyed the beautiful campus (校园) and the rich history of Peking University. 

I hope I will study in Peking University when I grow up. 

The oil-paper umbrella has a history of over 100 years in China. It used to be a tool for daily use. 

There are different {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (story) about the origin of the umbrella in China. The most popular one is related to Lu Ban. It is said that once he and his younger sister visited the West Lake. It started raining suddenly. The sister said, "Let's have a competition. Before sunrise tomorrow, {#blank#}2{#/blank#} one who comes up with a way for people to visit the West Lake on rainy days will be the {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (win)." Lu Ban thought it was easy. He collected tools and materials and spent the whole night {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (build) pavilions (凉亭) around the lake. He was quite confident about his efforts. 

The next morning, when Lu Ban was talking proudly about his achievements, his sister held something {#blank#}5{#/blank#} (usual) in her hand. Lu Ban was surprised. He found that the object {#blank#}6{#/blank#} (make) of silk and bamboo could be opened and closed {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (easy). It was light, beautiful and easy to carry. Lu Ban said "You win. Your 'pavilion' can protect us {#blank#}8{#/blank#} rain." And the umbrella was invented. 

Later, when paper was invented, people used much {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (cheap) paper to replace silk, cutting the cost of umbrellas. To make the umbrella waterproof, people brushed tung oil (桐油) across the surface. That was {#blank#}10{#/blank#} the oil-paper umbrella was invented.
