The Spring Festival is celebrated not only in China but also in other parts of the world. The traditional holiday is the most important to Chinese both at home and abroad. 

The United Kingdom

Celebrations for the Spring Festival in the UK started in 1980, with the first evening party held in 2002. Every New Year, people get together and have a lot of activities. They sing songs, dance to music, share photos with friends or enjoy films in a cinema. 

The United States

The Spring Festival has become a key time for Chinese living or working in the US. They join in a large evening party to welcome the traditional New Year. It is a good chance for people to build a circle of friends and feel that they are not alone because they share the same culture and values. 

Australia

The Chinese New Year will be welcomed with three weeks of celebrations across Australia. Many people come to Sydney's Chinatown or Lite Bourke Street in Melbourne. They enjoy fireworks (烟花), lion dances and dragon boat races. The celebrations are also a bridge towards better understanding between Chinese and non-Chinese. 

Singapore

The family dinner on New Year's Eve is an important tradition for Chinese whether they were born in Singapore or moved there from China. They place traditional food on a table as an act of remembering their past. Then the whole family enjoy the dinner together. They usually hold it at home because having it in a restaurant takes away the meaning of the tradition. 

A kind of little cars may take the place of today's big ones many years later. If everyone drives such cars in the future, there will be less pollution in the air. There will also be more space for parking in cities, and the streets will be less crowded.

The little cars of the future will cost less. Driving will be safer, too, since these little cars can go only 65 kilometers an hour. The cars of the future will be fine for going around a city, but they will not be useful for a long way. Little cars will go 450 kilometers before they need to stop for more gasoline (汽油). If big cars are still used with the small ones, two kinds of roads will be needed in the future. Some roads will be needed for the big, faster cars and other roads will be needed for the small, slower ones.

"How do you get to school?" This question often gets an answer like "By bus", "By car" or "On foot". But not always. There are children in many different parts of the world who, every day, have to go on a difficult journey to get to school. They travel for kilometres on foot, or by boat, bicycle, donkey (驴) or train. They cross deserts (沙漠), mountains, rivers, snow and ice. {#blank#}1{#/blank#}

To get to school on time, some children in Indonesia have to cross a dangerous bridge.{#blank#}2{#/blank#} Then they walk many more kilometres through the forest to their school in Banten. 

{#blank#}3{#/blank#} He has to ride it with his friends for over an hour through a desert in the very dry area of northeast Brazil. Their school is in a tiny village. Very few people live there. 

Some children live in houses along Chetl, a road in Delhi, India. {#blank#}4{#/blank#} Every morning they walk along the railway to get to their school, 40 minutes away. 

Why do the children do this? Do their parents make them do it? The answer, in many cases, is no.{#blank#}5{#/blank#} They hope to get a job to make money so that they can help their families. And this is why rivers, deserts or any form of danger won't stop them from reaching school. 

Beijing is the capital of China. It's one of my favourite {#blank#}1{#/blank#} (city). It is  {#blank#}2{#/blank#} old city— more than 3,000 years old. Beijing has a population of about 21.8 million. It's {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(big) and busier than many other cities in China. Beijing is {#blank#}4{#/blank#} the north of China. It's famous {#blank#}5{#/blank#} the Forbidden City (紫禁城) and the Great Wall. Wangfujing Street is one of {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(good) places to go shopping in Beijing. There are many big {#blank#}7{#/blank#} famous shops. You can also taste all {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (kind) of food there. Beijing Roast Duck is very famous. People in Beijing are very {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(friend). They are learning English as {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(hard) as they can. Many people can speak a little English now.
