Jon is a writer and painter. He's written four books for kids. They have been published in many languages. Tina,the reporter of the school newspaper,asked Jon five questions about his work. 

Did you always like to write and draw？

In the third grade,I started writing stories. And I make1 to go with them. Now I still work like that way. I don't have a huge interest in making pictures if there's not a story. 

What's your process for creating a story？

I2 start with an ending in mind,or even a whole story. I start with the setup. Hopefully,that setup gives birth to some characters（角色）. The characters have to feel3 . If I feel I'm forcing（强迫）them to do what they're doing,the book won't work,even if the story is funny. 

How do you know a story is 4 ？

I tinker（修补）with it until it feels like it has ended. I like to try to change the idea of what an ending feels like. It might not be a traditional ending. But it will still make something to click in your head,so you say,"That's done. "

How do you make pictures？

I do 5 tests. I might paint 20 big rocks on a page. I'll circle my favorite four rocks. On my computer,I put those four rocks with all my other pictures and paint again. I try to make the pictures feel connected. 

What is your favorite part of writing books for kids？

Kids are careful readers,and they focus hard on what they read. I always tell myself 6 I wrote all the stories. Yes,I want to give them knowledge and happiness and I feel happy I have made it. 

When Tom walked past the shoe shop on the street corner and looked at the front row（排） of shoes，he felt 1 to see that the pair of the shoes he wanted very much was still there.He really wanted to have them for his birthday. Then Tom walked away and thought how to

 2 with his mother about it. He knew she would give him anything he liked if she could. He

 3 knew very well she had little money.

 Tom decided（决定）not to go home at once， 4 his mother would notice it if he looked sad.He went to the park and sat on the grass.There he saw a boy in a wheel（轮子） chair and he was surprised to see the boy have no 5 He looked at his own feet and thought，"It's much 6 to be without shoes than without feet. I'm one of the luckiest persons in the world.So there is not any reason for me to feel sad at all." Then he went home happily.

I meet many new friends in today's activity. And Mark is my best friend. He is eleven years old. He has short black hair and two big eyes. He is tall and strong. He always smiles(笑). He is in a wheelchair( 轮椅) but we can play together. Sometimes his leg hurts(疼痛), but Mark is brave(勇敢的) and doesn't cry(哭).

Mark is good at maths and he can help me. He is very friendly. He doesn't shout at me. We both like reading storybooks. Mark is great. I learn a lot from him.

There are lots of festivals in China.I love Chinese festivals very much.Let me introduce some to you.The first one is the Spring Festival.I like the Spring Festival best.It's the most important festival for us.We often have a big dinner together.We often eat fish and dumplings.The second one is the Dragon Boat Festival.It's an interesting festival.We can eat Zongzi and see the dragon boat races.That's really fun.The third one is the Mid﹣Autumn Festival.It's a beautiful festival，because we can see the beautiful moon.We often eat mooncakes，too.I like the snowy mooncakes best.They are very delicious.What's your favourite festival？
