Have you ever shouted at your computer because it wasn't working? Of course, your computer can't "shout" back. But Al researchers have been working on computers that can argue and perhaps even win debates (辩论) with humans. 

IBM scientists recently published a paper in Nature about their new AI system— Project Debater. It can debate with people in front of a live audience. After listening to arguments from its opponent (对手), the system can search around 400 million online articles in less than five minutes. And then it looks for ideas that can support its own argument. 

Testing on the system began in 2019. When it debated with Harish Natarajan, a professional debater who holds the world record for the most debate competition victories. The topic was about subsidizing preschool (资助幼儿园) —and Project Debater argued to support this idea. Although Project Debater lost the debate in the end, the audience said it performed very well. Interestingly, 58 percent of the audience said that Project Debater increased their knowledge about the topic—only 20 percent said the same about Natarajan. 

According to Scientific American, results show that the system is able to form logical statements (有逻辑的陈述) . However,  ★ . Their goal is to help humans make better decisions, according to Ranit Aharanoy, manager of the Project Debater team. "It can debate both sides, so it can very quickly help you understand both sides of the problem, so you can have a wider view of the problem and make a more thoughtful decision." Aharanoy said. 

Let's wait and see how the Project Debater will develop in the near future.

First, it can take {#blank#}5{#/blank#}too much of our time. We can easily become addicted (上瘾的) to it. Once, I enjoyed videos for {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(near) a whole afternoon. I forgot {#blank#}7{#/blank#} (do) my homework. It {#blank#}8{#/blank#} (steal) my time and energy. 

{#blank#}9{#/blank#} (two), there are lots of meaningless (无意义的) videos. For example, some people did boring things {#blank#}10{#/blank#}posted what they did on the app. Watching these videos is not {#blank#}11{#/blank#} (help) for the growth of the students. 

In a word, not everything on Douyin {#blank#}12{#/blank#} (be)good. So we shouldn't lose {#blank#}13{#/blank#} (we) in short videos for fun. We can set up {#blank#}14{#/blank#} time to go online, such as after homework. I think spending {#blank#}15{#/blank#} (little) than 20 minutes online each time is OK. What do you think?

Spider monkeys are. New World primates（灵长类）. They get their names because they have very long limbs（四肢）and tails, which make them look like spiders. They are often seen with their limbs on different branches.

Spider monkeys can be in tropical forests of Central and South America, from southern Mexico to Brazil. They are 35 to 66 centimeters long and weigh 13 to 26 pounds. They have long tails that they use to catch tree branches, kind of like a 5th hand.

Spider monkeys live in groups. One group usually has dozens of spider monkeys. They communicate with each other through screeches（尖叫声）. A night, spider monkeys break off into smaller sleeping parties of about half a dozen or fewer. Unlike many other primates, males（雄性）stay together throughout their lives with the females. They leave their first groups to find another group.

When they go out to look for food, spider monkey groups take separate actions in order to avoid competition for it. They mainly eat fruit and nuts. They also eat other things like insects, honey, leaves, spiders and bird eggs. Spider monkeys actually play an important part in the spreading of seeds throughout the South American rain forests. Enemies that they need to keep an eye out for include animals like lions and crocodiles.

Spider monkeys are dying out. Woodcutting, which leads to the loss（丧失）of their natural living places, is playing a big role in their loss. These monkeys are also hunted for food, or to sell as pets. Spider monkeys are actually one of the most popular monkey pets around because of their look and their behavior. We must do something to protect them. After all, such good and interesting monkeys should live with humans for many years to come.

Many traditional Chinese festivals remind us of the special foods. As zongzi are to Dragon Boat Festival and mooncakes are to Mid-Autumn Festival, yuanxiao—sweet dumplings made of sticky rice flour—are special to Lantern Festival.

Lantern Festival usually falls on the 15^th of the first lunar month, marking the end of the Spring Festival celebrations. Apart from the round-shaped yuanxiao, another beloved part of the celebration is the lanterns, which come in almost every possible size and shape.

"Guessing lantern riddles(谜语)" is an essential(必不可少的) part of the festival. Lantern owners write riddles on a piece of paper and post them on the lanterns. If visitors have answers to the riddles, they can pull the paper out and go to the lantern owners to check their answers. If they are right, they will get a little gift. The activity emerged(出现) during people's enjoyment of lanterns in the Song Dynasty(960–1279). As riddle guessing was interesting and full of wisdom, it became popular among all social strata(阶层).

Lantern Festival was at its peak in the Tang and Song dynasties. It was a day of great fun at the time. In the evening, people went into the streets with all kinds of lanterns, watching lion or dragon dances, eating yuanxiao and setting off firecrackers.

The festival also provided a chance for unmarried young girls to go out freely in search of their true love, since they weren't normally allowed to do so. The famous poet Ouyang Xiu recorded this romantic tradition with the well-known line:"Atop the willow tree hangs the moon;my date comes in the evening soon."

Have you ever unlocked a Hello Bike? Have you ever used Meituan to order a meal? Have you ever enjoyed watching the short-form videos on Douyin? Well, if no one had invented the cell phone, none of these would have been possible.

Luckily, someone did invent the cell phone. That person is Martin Cooper, and he did that 51 years ago, in 1973.

Cooper used to work for Motorola. In the 1970s, the company was competing with AT&T, a larger company, to make a cell phone system. Cooper didn't think Motorola's product was good enough. He didn't like AT&T's idea of a car phone, either. The man wanted to give the world something new. He wanted to make it possible for people to talk on their phones anywhere.

It took Cooper and his team 90 days to design (设计) the world's first cell phone. The product was called DynaTAC. People could talk on it for 25 minutes before its battery (电池) died. The phone's short battery life wasn't a big problem, Cooper once joked. Why? Well, the phone was too heavy (1, 100 grams) to hold in hand for too long!

On April 3, 1973, Cooper made the world's first public cell phone call. He called Joel Engel, an AT&T manager. Cooper told Engel, "I'm calling you on a cell phone. It's a real, handheld cell phone." On the other end of the line, there was only silence.

Cell phones have changed a lot since that first call. They're much smaller and can do many more things. Cooper, now 96, is surprised at the progress. But the man has also kept thinking about life in the future. "I must keep learning all my life," he says. "Or I'll lose the ability to learn-that would be terrible!"
