Yesterday was Mary Alston's birthday. She is 109 years old, and she is one of the oldest people in the world. And she likes eating hamburgers.

Mrs. Alston had a party with her family. Her daughter, Jenny Morgan, who is 85, said,"My mother loves chocolate, and she eats popcorn(爆米花), pizza and hamburgers. She also likes to eat vegetables and fruit."

Mrs. Alston lives in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. She was born on a farm in Pennsylvania, and worked as a teacher. In 1935 she married(结婚) James Henry Alston. He died(去世) in 1983.

Her granddaughter, Annie, who is 65, said,"Grandma gets up every day at 6 o'clock, and goes to the cinema every Friday. She enjoys her life every day."

Annie asked her grandmother what she wanted to eat on her birthday. Mary smiled and said,"I'd like a hamburger and some fries. Of course, I also want to eat fruit and vegetables."

Marie Curie was born in Poland in 1867. Her father taught maths and physics, 1 she used to enjoy these subjects at school. Marie went to Paris to study physics and maths in 1891. There she 2 a scientist called Pierre Curie. They got married in 1895. Together, Pierre and Marie discovered radium (镭).

In 1903, Marie became the first woman to win a Nobel Prize — she 3 it with Pierre. Then, in 1904, Pierre became a 4 of the "Academie Francaise". Women were not allowed to become members, so Marie was 5 accepted by them. Pierre died in an accident in 1906, but Marie went on working until her death in 1934. 

What is kindness? It may be giving a helping hand to others when they are in trouble. Because of this help, someone who loses their way in darkness might see the light of hope. Perhaps the good actions you do are no big deal to you, but be of great help to others. 

I remember the year before last when I saw a big box near our house. I didn't know what it was. I took a look and found that it was a donation (捐赠) box. People could put clothes in it to donate to people living in poor areas. I saw many people donating their clothes. I was very moved (感动) by this and told my mother about it. The next day, I went to the box and put some of my own clothes inside. I was very excited. 

Some time later, someone sent me a letter saying "thank you" for my donation. I was once again deeply moved. 

We should give a hand when others need help. Do your best to do so. 

"I'm so excited to build sandcastles!" said James. "I'm going to build a big one, with lots of rooms!"

"Your sandcastle will be good, but not as good as 1 !" said Nova. "Why don't we have a competition(比赛)?" James thought it was a good idea and 2 her.

They were busy building their sandcastles. Nova built a great one! It had big towers and little windows. She even made sand chairs for little crabs to relax in!

 When seeing it, James was very 3 . At first, he was so sure his sandcastle would be pretty good for a king. However, each time he tried to build a tower on the top of the sandcastle, it didn't work. Then he tried to place other decorations(装饰品) on it, 4 they only made it worse! The sandcastle finally became a disaster(彻底的失败) and he knew Nova already 5 him.

 Nova looked over at James's sandcastle, and then at James. Watching him sit by his sandcastle sadly, she thought she should offer some 6 .

"Do you know what could be more fun, James?" asked Nova.

"What?" sniffled James.

"You and I, build a sandcastle together!" said Nova. "This one took me too much time, and there are so many crabs. It will be too 7 with only one sandcastle! They' ll need more than one sandcastle!"

"Oh, really?" James said. "I think everyone can do it well 8 me. I'm afraid I' ll ruin(摧毁) it."

"You won't, James!" And so Nova built the sandcastle and James placed all the decorations on it. After finishing it, they looked at their work 9 .

"Now, that's what I call a sandcastle!" James said with a big smile.

"Next time, let's work together again!" said Nova. "We make a great 10 !"

It's many people's dream to travel around the world, and Cory Lee has already done it.
