Britain is f{#blank#}1{#/blank#}as a country of animal lovers, and a many families have at least one pet. Americans also like animals, and about 60% of American families have a pet. People from other countries say that Americans think so much about animals and take them as well as people.

    At weekends people have many ways to see other animals. Many towns have a river with ducks. In Britain, people v{#blank#}2{#/blank#}farm parks, zoos, bird parks, and sea life parks.

    TV s{#blank#}3{#/blank#}about animals are very popular. Children are i{#blank#}4{#/blank#} in animals when they are very small. Children's life is wonderful b{#blank#}5{#/blank#}there are many different animals. Many animals in books have their own character: foxes are cunning(狡猾的), and cats are kind.

    We can watch stories about animals on TV. Animal World is very good. We can know more about animals. And we can see many other animals we can't see in our life.

    Animals are our friends and we s{#blank#}6{#/blank#}take the animals as our friends.

An old woman in a wheelchair moved into the apartment next door to Betsy's."Mom，let's go to say {#blank#}1{#/blank#} to our new neighbor，"Betsy said."Why don't you give her some time to get settled （安顿好）？"her mom  {#blank#}2{#/blank#}.

The next morning they visited their new neighbor.The lady invited {#blank#}3{#/blank#}in and said her name was Emily Harris."Please forgive the way the house looks，"said Ms.Harris."Being in a wheelchair makes it less {#blank#}4{#/blank#}for me to put things away."Betsy and her mom stayed only for a short time.Betsy's mom said，"{#blank#}5{#/blank#}you ever need anything，let us know.""Thanks so much，"said Ms.Harris {#blank#}6{#/blank#}.

The next day，Betsy went to visit Ms.Harris again.The {#blank#}7{#/blank#}was open，so she looked in but only to see Ms.Harris on the ground next to her wheelchair.She {#blank#}8{#/blank#}to Ms.Harris."I think I broke my arm，" said Ms.Harris.Betsy called for {#blank#}9{#/blank#}ambulance （救护车）.While Ms.Harris was not at home，Betsy decided to help put things away for her.

When Ms.Harris returned home，she was surprised by Betsy's hard work."You are a very kind girl，"she said."I'm so lucky to have bought this house {#blank#}10{#/blank#}yours!"Betsy smiled and said，"Welcome to the neighborhood!"

Once there was a very helpful man. He would help anyone 1 wanting anything in return. 

One day, when walking along a dusty road, the man saw a wallet, so he 2 the wallet. But he found it was 3 Suddenly a woman and a policeman appeared and caught him. The woman kept on asking where her wallet was, but the man answered, "It was empty 4 I found it. " The woman shouted at him, "Please give it back to me, and it's my son's tuition（学费）. "The woman felt sad so he handed over all his money. Then she left and the policeman asked him more 5 . 

One day while the woman was going to her son's school, she noticed that 6 was walking behind her. She thought that he 7 rob（抢劫） her, so she walked to a policeman. He was the same policeman that helped her before. The woman told him the man following her. They ran to him, and found that he was the same man that they caught a few days ago. 

He looked very weak and the woman was 8 . The policeman said to the woman, "He wasn't the thief that day, but having heard about your situation（情况） he gave you his money."

Then the man told the woman, "Please go ahead and pay your son's tuition. I saw you and 9 you to make sure that nobody would steal your money again." The woman was too moved to say anything. 

Life may give you a strange experience: sometimes it shocks you, 10 sometimes it may also surprise you. Be kind and learn to appreciate what you are given. 

①Aarrav Anil, a 13-year-old boy, has had a deep interest in mechanics (机械学) since childhood. He invented a smart spoon and stood for India to attend an international competition last year. In the competition, he won the first prize. But he didn't create his smart spoon to win a prize. He noticed his uncle who has Parkinson's disease (PD) (帕金森病) try to feed himself. Food kept falling out of his mouth, making him look like a mess. Aarrav wanted to make a change.

②More than 7 million people in India have PD. The disease influences the brain, causing patients to shake uncontrollably. As the disease progresses, it leads to difficulty in eating by oneself.

③Aarrav wanted his uncle to be able to eat by himself. This encouraged the boy to look for a way to help his uncle. So he took tools to his room with sensors (传感器) and a 3D printer. But not everything went well.

④"I was sad that I couldn't find certain parts I needed in India. I had to buy some from abroad." Aarrav said in an interview.

⑤Aarrav made a first model, but the spoon handle was not easy for his uncle to hold. "I've improved the invention. It needs to be waterproof (防水的). The spoon must be easily separated, so that it can be cleaned and replaced with a fork. And the spoon needs to be deeper to hold more food." the boy said.

⑥The smart spoon is now being tested at a local college. The test is expected to be completed in early 2025. Aarrav hopes that his smart spoon will be used in hospitals soon.

Nick is my pen pal. He is 12 years old. He is from Canada. He lives in Ottawa. He speaks English and French. His favourite subject is Science. He likes Chinese, too. And he says he can speak a little Chinese, but he can't write in Chinese. He doesn't like Physics. He thinks it's too difficult.
