Mr. Jenkins liked all kinds of delicious food. As an important manager, he was often asked to dinner. The shopkeepers tried their best to fawn on（巴结）him. They knew it was good for their business. The manager got fatter and fatter. He could hardly go upstairs at home and had to sleep downstairs. He often felt tired if he walked or did some housework. He was worried about it and had to go to see a doctor. 

"Stop eating much fat （脂肪） and sugar, Mr. Jenkins, "or it will be worse for your health!" It was difficult for the manager to do it. He wouldn't do as the doctor said. Of course, he found something was wrong with his heart a few months later. Now he thought the doctor was right. And he had to be in hospital. 

"You must lose weight, Sir, " said the doctor

"Could you tell me a way to lose weight, please? "

"You must do exercise first. "

"Which exercise? "

"To move your head from side to side when you're invited to dinner!

It was a Saturday afternoon. Mr Green was reading a newspaper when he heard his wife 1 in the next room. He hurried to her and asked, "What happened to you, my dear?"

"Oh, dear!" his wife called out. "My head hurts! 2 a doctor. Hurry up!" Their two children were both out at that moment and something was wrong with the telephone. Mr. Green had to go to a hospital himself. Bad luck! That day all the hospitals in the town were 3 . Mr. Green didn't know where to go. Just then a friend of his saw him and asked, "What is the matter?"

Mr. Green told everything. The man said, "Why not go to Mr Black? He can help you. "

Mr. Green remembered his friend 4 was a good doctor. He hurried to Mr. Black's. When he got there, Mr and Mrs Black were having their 5 meal. The doctor asked Mr. Green to drink with him. He was happy and sat 6 . After that they began to chat(聊天). And when Mrs Black asked," How is your wife?" "She is fine, thanks..."Mr. Green stopped at once-he remembered his wife was waiting for a doctor at home.

 Look! Some {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(baseball) are under the desk. They are Bill's and Sandy's. Baseball is {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(they) favorite sport. Sandy{#blank#}9{#/blank#}(think) it is fun. And she {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(ask) me to play it at 5:00. I am happy to play baseball with her. 

I will always admire(钦佩) my father and his belief. 

As I held my father's hands one night, I couldn't help but notice their calluses(老茧) and roughness(粗糙). His hands tell the story of his life as a 1 . 

One summer, a drought (干旱) hit Ontario, turning it into a burning desert. On one of those hot 2 , I was picking sweet corn with my dad to fill the last order from the grocery store. Fifty dozen was all we needed, which 3 took twenty minutes. That morning, however, the work didn't go 4 . After forty minutes of walking in the field, we still needed twenty dozen. I was completely impatient and angry. 5 the basket heavily, I said, "If the store wants its last twenty dozen, they can pick it themselves!" Dad laughed. "Just think, my little girl, only 6 dozen left for each of us and then we're done. " Such is Dad--whatever problem he 7 , he never gives up.
