Harry and Annie live a mile from the town, but they walk there to school every day. It is a pleasant walk around the pond* on their way to school. In winter, when the ice is thick and hard, they go across the pond. But their mother doesn't like them to do it unless* someone is with them.

"Don't go across the po nd today, children,"she says, as she kisses them goodbye one morning."It is    beginning to thaw."

"All right, mother,"says Harry, not very happy, for he likes running and skating on the ice very much.

When they come to the pond, the ice looks hard and safe.

"There,"Harry says to his sister,"Let's skate over it."

"But you promise mother,"says Annie.

"No, I don't. I only say‘All right', and it is all right."

"I don't say anything, so I can do as I like,"says Annie.

So they step on the ice and start to go across the pond.

They don't go far before the ice melts*, and suddenly they fall into the water.

A man who is at work near the po nd hears the children asking for help and rushes into the water to save them. They are almost drowned * before the man can reach them.

They get home almost frozen* and learn a lesson they will remember for a lifetime.

①"I will think of it." It is easy to say this, but do you know what great things have come from thinking? Though we can not see, or hear, or feel our thoughts, they are powerful.

⑤Ideas come at any time, and the important thing is to think. When you meet with any difficulty, don't lose heart. Try to think of it before asking someone to help you. Think and by thinking you will learn how to think creatively.

My name is Sally. I am a junior high school student from Guangdong. My school life is very busy but exciting. I have eight lessons a day. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} But my favourite subject is labour(劳动). I have two labour classes every week. I like labour classes because I can learn much from them.

In June 2024, some junior high school students in Guangzhou visited the Guangdong Museum. As for my school, we also go out of the classroom to learn new things. {#blank#}2{#/blank#}It is usually from 17th to 22nd in September. 

{#blank#}3{#/blank#} We can plant some trees and flowers. We clean our school. We also learn to cook. Now I can cook tomato and egg noodles. It's easy. {#blank#}4{#/blank#} And I can cook the noodles by myself when my parents are not at home.

Sometimes we also go to the farm and help farmers. 

We can pick some fruit and vegetables. We learn that the work on the farm is difficult. {#blank#}5{#/blank#}

Having labour classes makes us learn something new. I love labour classes so much.

"Oh, boys, boys, don't throw stones at that poor bird, " said an old grey- headed man. 

"Why, sir?" said a little boy. "She makes such a scream that we can't stand her. ""Yes, but she uses the voice that she was born with. And it is probably as wonderful to her friends as yours is to those who love you. Besides, I am afraid the stone will rebound(反弹) and hurt you as long as you live!"

"Rebound! We don't understand you, sir!" "Well, come and I will tell you a story. ""Is it a true story?" "Yes. Every word is true. "

"Fifty years ago, I was a boy like you. I used to throw stones as I had no other boys very near me to play with. I threw them till I became very accurate (精确的) in my aim. "

"One day, I went to work for an aged couple named Hamilton. They were very kind to everybody and everything. Few people had so many swallows(燕子) making their nests(鸟巢) under their houses. Few had so many pets that seemed to love the couple. "

"For seven years a bird had come. After the long winter, the bird built her nest in the same place and raised her young ones there. She had just returned on the day that I went there to work. "

"I was sorry as soon as I saw her fall. But the thing was done. All day long her mate flew about, and the mate was so sad that he made my heart ache. Why had I taken a life that was so innocent(无辜的), and hurt the poor mate so deeply?"

"I said nothing to the old couple about it. But, through a grandchild, they found it out. Though they never said a word to me about that, they mourned the bird and buried(埋葬) it. I could never look them in the face afterwards. Oh, I had told them how sorry I was!"

"They have been dead for many, many years. But don't you see how that stone rebounded and hit me? How deep it made upon my memory! How deep upon my conscience(良知)! My dear boys, how I want to give a great deal today if I could do something for that poor bird!"

"For fifty years I have carried it in my memory. I have never spoken of it before. Yet if what I have now said shall stop you from throwing a stone that may rebound and deeply hurt your conscience, I shall have no regret. "

The boys at once dropped the stones they had in their hands. 

 Ara, 5 years old, helps watch the 1 in the green fields every day. She asks her parents, "Can we 2 one of them?" Her father says, "You need to do much work. You need to learn about cows first."

 First, they go to a good farm. Green and fat grass is everywhere. The clean cows are eating grass happily. They milk a cow, and get lots of 3 . But the second farm is different. The cows are not 4 . When Ara asks about the milk, the farmers shake their heads.

 Ara wants to do things to help the 5 cows. Finally, she gets a plan(计划) with her parents. She asks the first farmers to help the second farmers, and they say 6 . So they have a meeting and the first farmers share 7 experience(经验). Their advice is very helpful, and everyone learns a lot.

 Weeks later, the 8 farm becomes clean. The farmers get much milk. They 9 Ara and plan to pass the help to other people. Ara's father says to her, "You really did a good job!"

 In the end, Ara doesn't keep a cow, 10 she is happy because she helps those cows and farmers to be better. "One can have good change to the world at any age," she is so glad for herself.
