Jessica Long is a very fast Paralympic (残奥会的) swimmer. She was born in Russia 1 a disability (残疾). This was difficult for her mother and Jessica 2 in a special home for children. 

When Jessica was thirteen months old, 3 American couple, Steve and Beth Long, 4 this home. They adopted (收养) her and took her to the USA with 5 . Jessica had a new mom and dad. 

When Jessica was eighteen months old, the 6 said she must lose her legs below the knee. They gave Jessica artificial legs and she learned to 7 for the first time. 

When Jessica was a young child, she 8 to swim in her grandparents' swimming pool. 9 the age of ten, she started to swim in competitions. "She was 10 the first person in the swimming pool and the last person out of it," says her father. 

At twelve, Jessica went to her 11 Paralympic Games in Greece. Her family went with her 12 she was very young. 

Nobody thought Jessica would win, but they were 13 . She won three gold medals (奖牌)!

At fourteen, Jessica went to the World Swimming Championships in South Africa. She won nine more gold medals and she broke five world records!

Jessica likes other 14 , too. She enjoys 15 and, at fourteen, she started rock climbing. Jessica Long is really amazing.

The summer vacation is important to everyone. I'll never forget this year's summer vacation. At first I thought the 1 would be boring, because I was going to the sea (大海). I didn't think there was anything 2 on the beach. I wanted to come back home on the 3 day, but I wasn't right.

I went with my family to Whitby on July 15th. We 4 three weeks there! We stayed at a nice hotel. The rooms were all large and 5 . The hotel was near the sea. We often went back late at night.

Then I 6 lots of interesting people during(在……期间) those three weeks. I stayed with them most of the time. Soon we became 7 . We built a few sandcastles (沙堡), swam and visited many fun places.

The 8 was quite wonderful. Every morning when I woke up, I could see the sun was shining(照耀) and the sky was blue. It rained 9 once, but the sun came out soon. I 10 this vacation and I will never forget it. It's the best time in my life.

My grandmother left me almost 18 years ago but I still miss her every day. She was such an important part of my life. My mum, dad, brothers and I lived in her old house for most of my childhood. When I close my eyes and open my heart. I can still see her in her flower print, cotton dress. I can hear her high voice saying "hello" as I opened the door after school, while her arms opened to give me a big hug and a kiss. I can even remember the smell of hers. When she hugged me, I could feel the love and joy coming from her heart. 

I thought I knew everything about my grandma, but amazingly, I am still learning more about her even today. Just yesterday an old family friend stopped to talk to me at the post office. She told me what happened once she visited my grandma when I was still a little boy. They were sitting around the dining room table talking and our friend noticed the lovely earrings my grandma was wearing. She told my grandma how much she liked them and asked if my grandma could leave them to her in her will(遗嘱). Without a second thought, my sweet grandma took them off and gave them to her. 

I decided then that I want to regard my grandma as my role model. Be nice and care more about people and less about things. 

Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson were having a cup of tea at five, as they usually did, when the doorbell rang. 

"That {#blank#}1{#/blank#} be Mrs Brown. I was expecting her this evening, " said Sherlock Holmes. 

"No, it {#blank#}2{#/blank#} be her. She called this morning while you were out to say she would not be able to make it this evening. She also said she{#blank#}3{#/blank#} come tomorrow evening, but she would call again anyway to confirm (确认) it, " replied Dr Watson. 

"Well, that's very strange, my dear Watson. Mrs Brown {#blank#}4{#/blank#} have called this morning because I was with her all day till we parted for lunch. It {#blank#}5{#/blank#} have been someone else pretending (假装) it was her, " said Sherlock Holmes. 

"But why? Do you think something{#blank#}6{#/blank#} have happened to the real Mrs Brown?" replied Dr Watson in a fearful tone(语气). 

The doorbell rang again. 

"Well, my dear Watson, the answer{#blank#}7{#/blank#} be waiting at the door right now. You'd better go and see, but I'm afraid it is not Mrs Brown. It {#blank#}8{#/blank#} be the person who called this morning. So be {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(care), " said Sherlock Holmes.

One day, a young man went to a farm. He lost his job a few days ago, so he was going to 1 a new job there. 

An old farmer 2 him in his living room. 3 the old farmer asked what he could do to help on the farm, the young man just said, "I can sleep well when the storm comes." This short answer made the farmer feel 4 , but he liked the young man very much. Finally the young man got the job and lived 5 the farm. The weather was fine until there was a heavy storm one night. The old farmer and his wife (妻子) got up 6 and began to watch the situation on the farm. They wanted to see whether the things were 7 or not. 

They 8 all the things on their farm. They found the farm tools were safe in the storehouse (仓库). The 9 of the farmhouses were already closed. They were happy that 10 was OK. 

After that, they walked to the young man's11 . They were surprised to see that he was 12 on his bed. The farmer and his wife then understood the 13 of the young man's words. They said that the young man really did a good 14 . 

In fact, the young man got everything 15 when the sky was clear. He was not afraid at all, so he could sleep well when the storm came.
