There are many classic (经典的) cultures in China. All of them have a very long history. Here we introduce three of them. 

This is Mr. Black. He works at the radio station. He gets up at 6:00 a.m. and rides to work. It takes him about twenty minutes to get to work. He starts work at 7:00 a.m. He often plays sports when he is free. His favorite sport is tennis.

This is Mrs. White. She is a mother of two boys. She gets up at 6:30 a.m. every day and makes breakfast for her two sons. Then she makes the bed, cleans the house and drives them to school. She often goes to the supermarket (超市). She likes shopping.

This is Miss Smith. She is an office(办公室) worker, She gets up at 8:00 a.m. from Monday to Friday. She often walks to work it takes her about a quarter of an hour to get to her office. She starts work at 9:00 a.m. After work, she usually goes swimming with her friends.

Our English teacher Mrs. Wang let us do an English project—researching the Chinese traditional festivals. Here are two groups' reports about it.

①Many birds today use human rubbish to build their nests (巢). Is it helpful or harmful for birds to use rubbish for nests? You will find the answer in some studies.

②Birds are building their nests with rubbish, said a new study. The rubbish includes cigarette butts (烟头) and plastic bags. A group of European scientists looked into about 35.

③Some rubbish seems to be helpful. This is why birds "like" putting it in their nests. For example, cigarette butts have some chemicals, so they can keep insects away and protect the baby birds. Plastic bags are useful in keeping the animals warm, such as paper cards, can make nests stronger.

④However, in the end, human rubbish may only bring more harm to birds. The toxic (有毒的), according toa study. To make matters worse, if the cigarette still burns when the bird brings it back to its home, it may set fire to the nest. Pieces of fishing net may also trap birds, and it's impossible for them to get out by themselves. If the babies eat other kinds of rubbish by accident, they will also get hurt.

⑤Our friends in the air are feeling the bad effects of humans polluting the environment.

According to Chinese history, sky lanterns were first used by Zhuge Kongming. He sent them out to ask for help when in trouble. Today, sky lanterns are used at festivals and other{#blank#}1{#/blank#}. They are made of bamboo and covered with paper. When the lanterns are {#blank#}2{#/blank#}, they slowly rise into the air like small hot—air balloons for all to see. They are {#blank#}3{#/blank#}as bright symbols of happiness and good wishes. 

Paper cutting has been around for over 1,500 years. Paper cutting {#blank#}4{#/blank#}very easy but it can be difficult to do. The paper, usually red, is folded before it is cut with scissors. The most common pictures are flowers, animals, and things about {#blank#}5{#/blank#}history. During the Spring Festival, they are put on windows, doors and walls as symbols of wishes for good luck and a happy new year. 

Chinese clay art is famous because the clay pieces are so small but they look very 61. {#blank#}6{#/blank#}. The pieces are usually cute children or lively {#blank#}7{#/blank#}from a Chinese fairy tale or historical story. The pieces are{#blank#}8{#/blank#} shaped by hand from a very special kind of clay and then allowed to air-dry. After drying, they are fired at a very high heat. {#blank#}9{#/blank#}are then polished and painted. It takes several weeks to complete everything. These small pieces of clay art show the love that all Chinese people have for life and {#blank#}10{#/blank#}

Do you know farm animals? Let's get to know some of them together. 

People keep pigs on farms for meat. Pigs like to stay in mud (泥浆) because it helps them to keep cool. Pigs live in the mud but they are very clean animals. Mother pigs can sing to their babies. 

People keep sheep on farms for their meat and milk. Sheep are happy when they live together in a group. Sheep are very gentle animals so people like to keep them. 

Cows give us the milk that we buy from the shops. People use milk to make ice cream and other kinds of food, Cows like to eat grass. Cows can drink a lot of water in one day. 

People can make horses work on farms.  ▲  You can see people ride them in the shows or at the races. 

People keep chickens on farms for their eggs and meat. A female chicken is called a hen and a male chicken is called a rooster. Roosters can ask the farmers to get up every morning by saying "cock-a-doo-die-doo.
