A few weeks ago, I went into Chase's class for help. I e-mailed Chase's teacher one evening and said, "My son keeps telling me that his homework is maths, but I'm not sure whether I should believe him. Help, please." She e-mailed right back and said, "No problem! I can help Chase after school anytime." And I said, "No, not him. Me. He gets it Help me."

And that's why I stayed with Chase's maths teacher. We talked about teaching children. We agreed that subjects like maths and reading are not the most important things that are learned in a classroom. We also talked about something else--kindness and bravery. 

And then she told me this. 

Every Friday afternoon Chase's teacher asks her students to take out a piece of paper and write down whom they'd like to sit with the following week. She also asks the students to nominate (推荐) who is the most popular student that week. They needn't write down their names on the paper. 

After the students go home, she takes out those pieces of paper and studies them. In fact, Chase's teacher is not looking for a new seating chart (表) or "popular students". She is looking for lonely children. She's looking for the ones who don't want to talk with others. She is finding out whose names are not noticed by their classmates.     ★        

After watching Columbine, the wise woman knew that all violence (暴力) comes um loneliness. So she decided to start fighting violence early and often, and what she is doing is SAVING LIVES. 

And she finds the lonely kids from those lists and tries to help them. It's maths to her. All is love--even Maths. 

It seems that environmental protection is the {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(任务) of adults. Can teenagers do their parts in it? Zheng Huan, a 19-year-old girl from Sichuan gave her answer.

"Today, climate change has{#blank#}2{#/blank#}(造成) great damage to the environment around us," Zheng said. "It's time for us to make a {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(不同之处) by ourselves. She set up an organization. They worked with game {#blank#}4{#/blank#}(公司), artists and programmers and make climate change a thing that could be seen, felt and dealt with.

Zheng has been working on a game called Guardians of Earth. Players take pictures of different things in nature to get points. One teenager said, "I {#blank#}5{#/blank#}(很少) paid attention to plants or animals. But now they have all become {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(生动的) and meaningful to me because now I know them."

{#blank#}7{#/blank#}(另一个) project is digital artworks about climate change. Last year, lots of artists were {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(邀请) to create works based on the book AI 2041. The book talks about how AI will have {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(影响) on the environment in the future. "Paintings are a direct form of art and online paintings can reach more people very {#blank#}10{#/blank#}(迅速地)," Zheng said. "I want to communicate the climate change in beautiful ways to increase people's understanding of nature," she added.

Zhou Jinrui and Harry are two middle school students in Hangzhou. They didn't have much money with them. But they have dreamed to visit Beijing for a long time. So they went to Beijing from Hangzhou by bike last summer holiday. They spent nearly one month on the bike travelling. The journey（旅程）was hard, but they felt happy. 

They went through many cities and villages during the travelling. They ate the food they took or had cheap meals. When they were tired at night, they took out their map to find small and cheap hotels or the farmers' houses to stay in. They also took some medicine with them. When they had a cold, they didn't need to go to hospital. When it was rainy, they stopped for a while and went on with their travelling. 

At the end of August, they got to Beijing successfully. They visited a lot of places of interest in Beijing, such as the Great Wall, the Summer Palace and Tian'anmen Square. 

They had a fun time in Beijing for ten days. At last, they had to return to Hangzhou by train because the new term began in September. 

As the main guitarist(吉他手) in our music club, Li Nan has a deep love for music. With big dreams, Li didn't just want to play other people's {#blank#}1{#/blank#}( song). He wanted to compose(创作) his own music.

One day, he had a good idea and decided to try making his own music with his guitar. In the . {#blank#}2{#/blank#}( begin), he was not very good at it. He had a hard time and faced many difficulties, but he didn't give {#blank#}3{#/blank#}. Instead, he worked hard er than before to learn and practice.

As time went on, he didi better. He composed{#blank#}4{#/blank#} excellent piece snow. It showed his own style(风格) and feelings. Later, he{#blank#}5{#/blank#}( share) the piece with our music club members and we all liked it.

However, he got{#blank#}6{#/blank#} big trouble one day. He {#blank#}7{#/blank#}( break) his friend's guitar, and this guitar was expensive. As a result, he has to compose music for others to make money. Luckily, someone loved his music and paid for his service. {#blank#}8{#/blank#}( final), he made enough money and bought a new guitar for his friend. Li Nan was great. He was brave to face his mistake and try to make things right.

Li Nan's story inspired( 激 励 ) all the music club members. We saw his journey from{#blank#}9{#/blank#} play) the guitar to composing his own music. Through hard work, he made his dream come true. Let's learn from his example, believe in{#blank#}10{#/blank#}( our) and bravely follow our dreams.

Last Saturday, our class had a school trip. We decided{#blank#}1{#/blank#} (go)to the mountain. So, at 7:00 in the morning we got together {#blank#}2{#/blank#} the school gate. Then we {#blank#}3{#/blank#} (take) a bus there. At the foot of the mountain, there was a river. The water in it was clean and you could see some fish swim in it. And some of {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (I) classmates even tried to get the fish, {#blank#}5{#/blank#} they failed（失败）. We also saw quite a few special flowers by the river. They were very beautiful. And we did many {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(interest) things there and took lots of {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(photo). At 12 o'clock, we had lunch. The food was {#blank#}8{#/blank#}（real） great. After lunch, we walked up to the top of the mountain. There we could see the whole city, and{#blank#}9{#/blank#} looked wonderful. We all had {#blank#}10{#/blank#} good time there. 

①Colours are everywhere in our life. They have different meanings in different countries. Red is very important in China. Chinese people think it is a colour of good luck and happiness. So in China, you can see many red things here and there. 

②In the New Year, Chinese parents always put some money in a red envelope named hongbao. They give it to their children because they hope they can be healthy. People also write some good words on the red paper called chunlian as good wishes for the New Year. 

③On birthdays, some Chinese people like wearing red clothes and eating red eggs. They hope they can be healthy and have a long life. 

④For Chinese people, red is not just the name of the colour. In fact, it's the colour of the Chinese spirit(精神).
