My friend Nick always had some unexpected experiences.

In May 2001, Nick got a 1 at the World Trade Center in New York. On September 11, he arrived at work early but decided to get coffee first. While he was waiting for his coffee, a loud noise happened, and a plane hit his office building. He was 2 to see smoke and fire rising.

Ten years later, he planned to fly to New Zealand for vacation. But when he woke up that morning, it was late. He 3 his plane. He was upset because he had been looking forward to this 4 . The following morning, through the radio, he 5 that there was an earthquake in New Zealand right when he would have arrived. Once again, his bad luck turned out to be good luck.

Once Mr. King had a cat, and he loved it very much. He called it "Sky", because he thought "Sky" was the strongest name in the world.

One day he had a meal at a restaurant with his cat. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} He told him about his lovely cat and its name. His friend said," {#blank#}2{#/blank#} Sky is not the strongest thing in the world. My cat is called 'Cloud', because cloud is stronger than sky." After hearing this, Mr. King called his cat" Wind". {#blank#}3{#/blank#}

After a few days he suddenly thought that "Wall" was stronger than "Wind". {#blank#}4{#/blank#}So he went to his friend to ask for an idea. His friend said,"Don't you think' Cat'is stronger than'Mouse？'""{#blank#}5{#/blank#}"

The man thought and thought and then decided his cat's name had better be"Cat" ,because a mouse was always afraid of a cat.

"Have you checked the oil in the car?" My father used to say to me. "Hello, hope you are well." Sometimes our phone calls would begin with a question about the oil and end with a question about the oil, with not a lot in between.

Fathers have a lot of love to give, but it's often supplied through the medium (方法) of practical advice. In my experience: It's mostly about my car.

"How's the car running?" "Did you get it serviced?" "How did you get that scrape (刮痕) on the side?"

Why can't fathers just say "I love you" or "It's great to see you"? The point is: That's exactly what we are saying. You just have to translate from the language that is Fatherlish.

The words "You made my life better from the moment you were born" may be hardly heard, but the key is there in the more common "I'll hold the ladder while you get the leaves out of the gutter (排水沟)."

When I was 17, I went on my first road trip—a friend and I in that old car. My father stood on the corner early on a cold morning to say goodbye to us.

"Highways are dangerous," he said, "so don't try to catch up with anything faster than a horse. And take a break every two hours. And every time you stop for gas, you really should check the oil."

At the time we thought his speech was pretty funny and would chant "car and horse, car and horse" every time I drove faster and passed other speeding cars.

Dad's long gone now. But after all these years, I realize that had I owned a copy of the Fatherlish-to-English dictionary, I'd have understood that the speech my friend and I so casually mocked (嘲笑) was simply Dad's attempt at affection.

There are two young brothers, Simon and Pedro. They dream of going to university. They want 1 engineers. There is one problem. They come from 2 poor family in a small town. It is far from any university. The only one way to solve the problem is that one of 3 works first. So he can pay for4 going to school. Therefore, they flip a coin. Simon won, but he said, " I can't go. You are much5 than me!" But Pedro let him go.

Simon studies hard and becomes the most hard-working students there. Unluckily, his brother has a car accident and6 work any more. Without money, Simon has to leave school. He takes care of his brother in their little village. Luckily, with the help of the university, the 7 brothers are going back to study.

They become great engineers8 help build many buildings in their country. They9 help others from their little town to go to school. Working together, hard work and a dream are the keys 10 a great future! Let's learn from them.

I dreamed about {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(travel) to Hong Kong when I was a little boy. And this time my dream finally came true. So when I got to Hong Kong {#blank#}2{#/blank#} July 27th, I felt so excited. I know it's one of the {#blank#}3{#/blank#}(popular) cities in China. It was so hot {#blank#}4{#/blank#}we ate a lot of ice-cream. I wanted to go to Disneyland for {#blank#}5{#/blank#}long time, so our trip began in Disneyland. In the park, I saw lots of cartoon {#blank#}6{#/blank#}(character) such as Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse and Donald Duck made by Walt Disney, a very {#blank#}7{#/blank#}(talent) man. And we took part in some great activities. Everybody enjoyed themselves. During the following days, we visited many other interesting places. It took us 6 days {#blank#}8{#/blank#}(learn) about the life and culture there. I {#blank#}9{#/blank#}(true)hope I can go there again some day.

I liked playing the piano when I was a kid. But my family couldn't {#blank#}1{#/blank#} one. After school, I stood outside a piano club and watched others playing inside. Mrs Wang, the teacher of the club, {#blank#}2{#/blank#} me to practise the piano for free. I haven't seen Mrs Wang for a long time, and I {#blank#}3{#/blank#} her very much now.
