Stories sometimes describe snakes being cold-hearted characters. However, a team of scientists don't believe that. They say that one type of snake makes close friends.

The team of scientists did an experiment to see how garter snakes (带蛇) communicate with each other and to find out whether or not snakes make friends. The results turned out to be quite interesting.

The team gathered 40 garter snakes, and then put groups of ten garter snakes in an enclosure (围场). Inside the enclosure, there were four shelters (遮蔽物) for the snakes to go inside. The team then watched to see how the snakes behaved (表现)towards each other. They found the snakes were forming groups.

The experiment lasted eight days. Every day, the scientists took the snakes away from the enclosure. Then workers cleaned the space well. When the scientists put the snakes back in, they then went straight back to the same groups again! The scientists believed this could show the garter snakes make friends.

The team also said that they noticed two types of snake personalities (性格): shy and brave. Shy snakes were not ready to come out of the shelters inside the enclosure. But brave snakes were happy to do that.

Scientists of the team think we shouldn't be surprised that snakes form friendships. "All animals, even snakes, need to communicate with others." said Morgan Skinner, one of the scientists in the experiment.

It's not just snakes, though, that make friends. A recent scientific study found that dolphins do that, too.

  Why are so many people so afraid to fail ? Quite simply because no one tells us how to face the failure (失败）. In fact, failure can become experience that means growth. We forget that failure is part of the human condition and that every person has the right to fail.

Most parents work hard to prevent failure or protect their children. One way is to lower (降低)standards. Nearly 60% of the parents choose this way. When a child finishes making a table, the mother describes it as "perfect" even though it doesn't stand still. The other way is to blame (责怪）others. If John fails in science, his teacher is unfair or stupid.

There's a problem with the two days. It makes a child unprepared for the real life if they don't meet enough failure. The young need to learn that no one can be the best at everything, no one can win all the time. The young should be allowed to experience failure. 

Failure never gives people pleasure. It hurts both grown—ups and children. But it can be really good to your life when you learn to use it.
