Boom! A clap of thunder (一声霹雳) made the old house shake. Ramon stayed under his bed. A flash of lightning (一道闪电) lit up the room."I hate this house,"Ramon thought. It was his first night in his new home.

    The house had belonged to his grandma. It was very, very old. It looked really scary at night. The trees outside his windows looked like monsters (怪物) in the dark. Their branches (树枝) looked like long arms. They waved when the wind blew. The storm made everything even scarier. Ramon hated storms, and it seemed worse in the old house.

    Later the thunder became quieter. Ramon climbed into bed and fell asleep. When he woke up, the sun was shining through his windows. Ramon climbed out of bed.

    The trees outside didn't look like monsters anymore. The branches had nice green leaves growing on them. Ramon could see a bird sitting on one of the branches. It was singing a happy song. The yard looked pretty nice in the daylight. A stream (溪) ran across the yard. A swing hung from one of the trees. Many flowers grew next to the  tree.  Butterflies  flew  around  the flowers.

    "Maybe living here won't be so bad after all," Ramon thought.

I'm Mrs Green. This summer holiday, I went to London with my husband and our son Sam. We first spent four days visiting some famous places, such as the London Eye and Buckingham Palace. On the fifth day, I was a bit tired and just wanted to stay at the hotel. But Sam didn't want to. He would like to visit the HMS Belfast, a famous warship(战舰)that joined the Second World War(战争). It is on the River Thames as a museum for people to visit now. It is very famous and Sam read about it in a magazine. Well, boys always love these things, so I promised to go with him. 

We took the underground and it took us about twenty minutes to get to the River Thames from our hotel. After walking another ten minutes we finally saw the HMS Belfast. An adult ticket was £ 24. 5 and my husband bought two. Sam was only 13 years old, so his ticket was half price. The HMS Belfast was really large. Sam was interested in everything on it and took lots of photos. He said it was his favourite place on his trip to London. 

I see a photograph in a magazine. A male lion is sitting on the 1 . Beside him is a baby lion, 2 the baby lion is giving him a painful bite on the back. But papa lion doesn't get angry, and he doesn't even try to 3 the baby away. He just sits there and allows 4 to be "attacked (攻击). "This is what dads do-they endure (承受) all the 5 .

I don't have 11 kids, but my brother has two daughters. They both have jobs and live away from home. One day, his elder daughter had a flat tyre while 12 on a busy highway. It was a/an 13 place for something like that to happen, but she didn't have to think twice about whom to call for help. My brother dropped what he was doing and drove 20 miles to 14 the tyre. This is what dads do--they help their children throughout their lives.

Hi, Paul. I'm a 13-year-old boy and I live with my family in Beijing, China. I'm in Grade 7. My day is {#blank#}1{#/blank#}. I get up at 7 o' clock. After breakfast, I {#blank#}2{#/blank#} tidy my room, and then I go to school. 

At 8:00, {#blank#}3{#/blank#} start and my favorite subject is Chinese. We can learn many interesting things in Chinese lessons. I also like some other subjects, like science, English and so on{#blank#}4{#/blank#} teachers are very nice.

After school, I sometimes play soccer {#blank#}5{#/blank#} my classmates. It's great fun. Then I do my homework. In the evening, after dinner, my parents watch TV. I really {#blank#}6{#/blank#} reading some stories. I go to bed at about 9 o'clock at night.

Last weekend, my friends and I went on a picnic. On the way there, my friend Mike and I broke our {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(自行车), so we had to walk and were a little late.

Do you know Wilma Rudolph? In 1960, Wilma Rudolph became the first American woman to win three gold {#blank#}1{#/blank#}(medal) in one Olympics. She was {#blank#}2{#/blank#} unusual American player. 

Wilma Rudolph was born {#blank#}3{#/blank#} a very large, poor, African American family. She was the {#blank#}4{#/blank#} (twenty) of twenty- two children. She was born too early and only{#blank#}5{#/blank#} (weigh) about two kilogrammes. She had many illnesses when she was very young,{#blank#}6{#/blank#} (include) polio and scarlet fever(小儿麻痹症和猩红热). And the polio damaged her left leg so she couldn't walk or run like other kids. When she was six years old, she began to wear metal leg brace (支架){#blank#}7{#/blank#} she could not use that leg to stand or walk. 

Since she was sick most of the time, her brothers and sisters all helped to take care of{#blank#}8{#/blank#}(she). They took turns massaging her leg every night. They also made sure she did not try to take off her leg brace. Every week, Wilma's mother drove her to a special doctor over eighty kilometres away. There, she got physical treatment {#blank#}9{#/blank#} (help) to make her leg healthy again. She later said, "My doctors told me I would never walk again. My mother told me I would. I believed my mother. " With her family's attention and care,{#blank#}10{#/blank#}(lucky), when she was nine years old, she no longer needed her leg brace.
