Teachers are often considered to be engineers of the human soul. {#blank#}1{#/blank#} But there's one person in China who is called the "teacher of teachers". 

He is Chinese educator Tao Xingzhi. Last year marked the 130 anniversary of his birth. People in different parts of China memorize Tao by visiting his memorial halls or holding meetings to think back on his thoughts on education. 

Born in Anhui province, China, 1891, Tao studied at Columbia University, the US, in 1914. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} .But when Tao returned to China in 1917 and began his own career as an educator, he did not blindly copy Dewey's education method or theories. For Tao, education is an active process in real- life experiences rather than one of telling and being told. He encouraged "unity of teaching, learning, and reflective acting".

After conducting surveys in Beijing, Tianjin and Shanghai in 1921, Tao was surprised to learn that the rate of urban illiteracy (文盲) in China went beyond 70 percent. {#blank#}4{#/blank#}.To deal with the lack of teachers and money, in 1927, Tao set up Xiaozhuang Normal college (晓庄师范学院) in the northern suburbs of Nanjing to train teachers and educators ,most of whom became teachers at rural schools. 

{#blank#}5{#/blank#}He set up Yucai Middle School in the suburbs of Chongqing and offered free education to refugee (避难) children after the Japanese invasion of China began in 1937. 

Maybe Tao's moto is the best explanation for his life, "Giving a whole heart, yet taking nothing in return, not even a leaf of grass." 

They hang from trees.They float in rivers and oceans.They are piled up in landfills（垃圾填埋场）.Our frequent use of plastic products has，for many years，been a leading cause of serious environmental problems in the world.Last month，China drew up new guidelines（指导方针）aiming to bring plastic pollution under control across the country in five years' time. 

According to the new guidelines，the ban（禁令）on the use of non-biodegradable（不可生物降解的）plastic bags will have been applied to cities including Beijing and Shanghai by the end of this year.Other sources of plastic garbage will have been banned in these cities by the end of 2022.And that rule will have extended nationwide by late 2025. 

Fortunately，China will not start from zero.Late last year，the country announced a national standard for biodegradable plastic shopping bags.It is technologically prepared for their production.Some regions have gained valuable experience that others can learn from.For example，Jilin province is leading the way by providing eco-friendly（环保的）shopping bags in some local supermarkets. 

Given the size of China's consumer market，one main obstacle（障碍）is the large number of plastic items that are being used by restaurants and e-commerce（电子商务）platforms.It's estimated that nearly 25 billion plastic bags were used for deliveries in 2018.Most of them were rarely reused. 

However，most Chinese people welcomed the government's effort to reduce the use of plastics."Beijing is thinking about the problem seriously，"said Tang Damin，a member of Greenpeace East Asia in Beijing.He added that the policy could be far more effective（有效）by using incentives（激励）such as a deposit（押金）return program on plastic products.

Say you're sitting around with some friends playing video games and someone mentions a game that happens to be one of your favorites. "Oh, that game's easy. So not worth the time, " one of your friends says. The others agree. Although you enjoy the game quite a lot, not wanting to argue with them, you go along with the crowd.

You have just experienced what is commonly referred to as peer pressure, also called peer influence. You will adopt a certain type of behavior, dress, or attitude in order to be accepted as part of a group of your "peers". As a teen, you are likely to have experienced the effect of peer pressure in a number of different areas.

We are all influenced by our peers at any age. For teens, as school and other activities take you away from home, you may spend more time with your friends than with your family. As you become more independent, your peers naturally play a greater role in your life.

According to Dr. Casey from Cornel University, teens are very quick and accurate in making decisions on their own and in situations where they have time to think. However, when they make decisions in the heat of the moment or in social situations, their decisions are often influenced by factors like peers. In a recent study, teen volunteers played a video driving game, either alone or with friends watching. The researchers discovered that the number of risks teens took more than doubled when their friends were watching, compared with when they played alone. This shows that teens may find it more difficult to control risky behavior when their friends are around, or in situations where they are extremely angry.

Just as people can influence us to make unwise choices, they can also influence us to make good ones. A teen might join in a volunteer project because his or her friends are doing it, or get good grades because his or her friends think getting good grades is important. In fact, friends often encourage each other to study, or try out for sports.

While we are always influenced by those around us, the decision to act or not is up to us. So when it comes to decision making, the choice is up to you.

What topic do more than 13 million American kids like? Soccer! The Soccer Industry Council of America reported in 1999 that all those kids were playing organized soccer. Add adults into the number, and you come up with more than 18 million Americans playing soccer. {#blank#}1{#/blank#}

First, I think there's the international interest. {#blank#}2{#/blank#} The excitement must be catching. 

Another reason is that soccer takes less equipment (设备) than some other spoils. So it's not very costly for a kid to join a soccer team. 

{#blank#}3{#/blank#} Though accidents may happen, body touching usually isn't part of the game. Therefore, fewer injuries are caused. 

Soccer attracts both boys and girls. Though soccer was at first only a male sport ( just like all other sports), soccer has caught on with girls. {#blank#}4{#/blank#} Interest in the sport extends to whole families, so there are more players, more fans, more coaches, and so on. 

Finally, I think there is the running factor. {#blank#}5{#/blank#} Kids love it, and few parents can say no to it. 
 

Robots seem new to most people. 1 , they have a long history. The first one was made by a Greek. There are lots of science fiction (科幻) 2 about robots, and the robots in the films are faster, 3 and cleverer than human beings and they are hard to be destroyed. In 4 life, robots are used to do many dangerous, difficult or boring 5 . For example, some people can't see, and they use dogs to help themselves move around. But in the future, robots dogs 6 take the place of these guide dogs. Some people can't 7 themselves and robots can help take care of them.

Robots can help us in many ways. However, they will never take the place of humans. 

The robots are just like human servants. They help us do the housework and jobs {#blank#}1{#/blank#} working in dirty or dangerous places and doing simple jobs over {#blank#}2{#/blank#} over again. {#blank#}3{#/blank#} people will do such jobs in the future because they are boring， but robots will never get {#blank#}4{#/blank#}. 

 Scientists are now trying to {#blank#}5{#/blank#} robots look like people. Robot scientist James White thinks that it will be {#blank#}6{#/blank#} for a robot to think like a human. But other scientists disagree. They think that robots will be {#blank#}7{#/blank#} to talk like humans in 25 to 50 years. 

In {#blank#}8{#/blank#} of years， new robots will have many different shapes. Some will look like humans，and others might look like animals. If buildings {#blank#}9{#/blank#} down with people inside，the snake robots can help {#blank#}10{#/blank#} for people under the buildings. It seemed impossible 100 years ago. We never know what will happen in the future！
