Harry and Annie live a mile from the town, but they walk there to school every day. It is a pleasant walk around the pond* on their way to school. In winter, when the ice is thick and hard, they go across the pond. But their mother doesn't like them to do it unless* someone is with them.

"Don't go across the po nd today, children,"she says, as she kisses them goodbye one morning."It is    beginning to thaw."

"All right, mother,"says Harry, not very happy, for he likes running and skating on the ice very much.

When they come to the pond, the ice looks hard and safe.

"There,"Harry says to his sister,"Let's skate over it."

"But you promise mother,"says Annie.

"No, I don't. I only say‘All right', and it is all right."

"I don't say anything, so I can do as I like,"says Annie.

So they step on the ice and start to go across the pond.

They don't go far before the ice melts*, and suddenly they fall into the water.

A man who is at work near the po nd hears the children asking for help and rushes into the water to save them. They are almost drowned * before the man can reach them.

They get home almost frozen* and learn a lesson they will remember for a lifetime.

Schuylerville High School students have a wide range of interests, which are reflected by the number of clubs and organizations in which our pupils participate. Here are some of the most popular clubs.

Environmental Club

Open to students in grades 9—12 Advisor: Mrs. Flores

The High School Environmental Club is open to all students interest increasing environmental awareness throughout the school. Activities include recycling, environmental competitions, volunteering with green schools and outdoor events. This run student club collects and recycles paper products throughout the school building.

Freshman Class

Open to students in grades 9—10 Advisor: Mr. winslow

The freshmen class participates in several activities throughout the year to raise money for the class account. The class officers meet once a month to discuss business that affects the entire class. All members of the freshman class are encouraged to participate in some type of community service during the year.

Literary magazine

Open to students in grades 10—12 Advisor: Mr. Sgambati

Members of the Literary Magazine collect, edit and often contribute to the body of student work. Literary Magazine meetings will also give students the opportunity to share and receive feedback on the creative pieces that they're working on, as well as the chance to learn about writing practices and strategies.

Mock Trial Team

Open to stude…s in grades 11—12Advisor: Mrs. Lewis

Mock Trial is an after—school activity that helps students develop useful knowledge about the law. Students play out all the roles and use general rules of evidence and fact explanations in a school court. They will work with a real lawyer and an advisor to further understand the court process.

We all enjoy being part of a group — there's no better work than teamwork, right? Actually, I disagree. Teamwork can be hard. In fact, it was so difficult that I left my office job and started working from home on my own. It's much better fit for me, and it has made me think about why teamwork can make our job harder rather than easier.

Personalities(个性) can make teamwork difficult. There is often someone on the team that puts their needs first. The team often goes along with this person whose ideas might not be the best, just the loudest. Just one difficult personality can make teamwork hard. Combine(结合) several challenging personality types and it's even harder.

Not having enough time together can also make teamwork challenging. For example, I was once on a team where we never had enough time to meet as a group. To successfully work as a team, you need time together — and lots of it.

A final reason teamwork is difficult is because there is often no training on how to work on a team. You can't just put people in a room and expect them to work well with each other. You need to build trust with your team members. Think of football players: They aren't just given a ball and told to play. They practice, and they train.

Team can be hard, but working alone has its challenges, too. When my computer doesn't work, I don't have an IT person to turn to. When I have a great idea, I don't have anyone to share it with to see if it really is a great idea. Don't get me wrong — I still like my team of one and enjoy making all of important decisions myself. But now I realize what was wrong with the teamwork I did in the past and how good teamwork could be if done correctly. And that's useful information — because one day I might want to turn ME TEAM into a WE TEAM.

Students at the primary school and junior high school in Shenzhen are having daily PE. Is it good?

 Buxin Primary School in Luohu District uses a"3+1+1" model —three regular(正规的)PE classes, one music-based exercise class, and one sports game class. That is, students have a total of five PE classes per week.

 One problem is the number of PE teachers is not enough to teach all the new classes. Teachers from other subjects even have to lead many of the PE classes. Liu Xunhua,a Chinese-language teacher at the school, has also taken on the role of a part-time PE teacher. Liu leads students in activities such as jumping ropes and jumping jacks.

 Another problem is that there is limited(有限的) space. "At most, there will be eight classes in PE at the same time," said Sun Shou-ping, director of the school's PE team. Longhua Foreign Languages School also makes full use of all spaces in the school. For example, students can practise running uphill and do jumping exercises on the steps. If there are too many PE classes at the same time, teachers can also take students to the public basketball court at the Luhuo park, which is just across the street from the school playground.

 Students truly welcome the new measure. However, there are also concerns. Both parents and teachers are afraid the reduced(减少的) learning time for other subjects may lead to bad grades.

It's true that three-roommates from the US had an amazing discovery(发现). They paid $20 for a sofa from a store. 

One night, they were sitting on the sofa and felt something must be in the sofa. Mr Werkhoven opened one part of the sofa and found an envelope(信封)with around $ 4, 000 in it. The roommates started opening other parts of the sofa, and kept finding more envelopes. At last they found over S 40, 000 in the sofa. 

At first, the roommates said that they were very excited. They said they even started to talk about how to spend the-money. But then the roommates found a phone number on one of the envelopes. The next day, they called the person to say what they had found. 

The owner was a 91-year-old lady. She put the money in the sofa. However, her family did not know about the money and gave the sofa away. 

The roommates drove to the woman's house to return the money. When they gave the money back, the old woman cried and gave the three roommates $ 1, 000 to express thanks. Miss Guasti said that they thought about keeping the money at first, but they knew that they would have felt wrong to use it,
