Doorbells are the bells (铃) for people to ring at a door. When someone hears it, he or she can open the door. Do you know that you can ring a doorbell for fish, too? 

Every spring, millions of fish migrate (洄游) along the river in the city to find better places to lay eggs. But in the river, there are many locks (水闸). They stop fish from swimming through. Weerd Lock is in Utrecht, the fourth largest city in the Netherlands (荷兰). When fish get there, they have to wait a long time before the lock opens for boats to pass through. The lock keeper there is glad to open the lock for fish, but he cannot tell when fish want to get through. So in 2021, Mark van Heukelum, a scientist, came up with a good idea to help solve this problem—by using the fish doorbell. 

Under the water near the lock, there's a camera. People from around the world can visit a website (网站) to see fish through the camera. When you see a group of fish waiting, you can ring the doorbell on the screen. And when the lock keeper notices it, he will open the lock for the fish.

Ye Jiaying, also known as Florence Yeh, was selected as one of the ten role models who won 2020 Touching China awards, a program by the CCTV.

Ye Jiaying was born into a family of scholars in July 1924 in Beijing. As an expert in the study of classical Chinese literature (文学), she started her lifelong career as a literature teacher in 1945 when she graduated from Fu Jen Catholic Unisersity, which later became part of Beijing Nonnal University.

In 1948, towards the end of the Chinese civil war, Ye and her husband moved to Taiwan. She gained popularity in Taiwan. With students speaking highly of her teaching, she was recruited by Taiwan University, Fu Jen University and Tamkang University to leach Chinese literature.

 In 1966, the couple moved to the United States, where Ye first taught Chinese poetry at Michigan State University and then at Harvard University. Later, they moved to Canada and she worked as a tenured professor at the University of Columbia in Canada.

Beginning in 1979, Ye began spending summers teaching at various Chinese colleges, including famous universities such as Beijing University, Nankai University and Fudan University. She offered her services for free and paid her own travel expenses (开销). She believes that her teaching is the best gift she can offer to the country and later generations.

In 2013, she came back to China and worked in Nankai University. She has settled down in Tianjin since then. The university announced (宣布) that Ye had donated 18.57 million yuan ($2.8 million) to the college to set up the Jiaying Scholarship.

According to the speech which explained why she won the 2020 Touching China awards, Ye Jiaying devoted herself to teaching Chinese poems. She only did one thing in her life, bringing the beauty of ancient Chinese poetry to the world.

Chinese people had hotpot as early as the Shang Dynasty. At that time, people boiled foods in bronze cauldrons(青铜鼎), which had two parts — one was the pot to cook foods in soup, {#blank#}1{#/blank#} the other part was a space inside the cauldron to hold firewood.

 People started to have lattice (分格的) hotpot {#blank#}2{#/blank#} the Han Dynasty. They divided pots into several parts to enjoy different tastes.

 Yuan Mei was a poet who was very fond of food in the Qing Dynasty. He mentioned huoguo, the Chinese name for hotpot, in {#blank#}3{#/blank#} book about all kinds of food. At that time, hotpo t was very popular. People put all kinds of meat and vegetables into the hotpot. They also used different {#blank#}4{#/blank#} to make pots such as copper(铜) and iron.

 It's said that Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty {#blank#}5{#/blank#} hotpot. He had it for almost every meal. He once held a big hotpot party and invited more than 5,000 people to enjoy 1,550 hotpots.
