Many people say that they are working too many hours. They don't have enough time to relax or to stay with their family.

    Work hours are different from one country to another. In France, people spend about 1, 646 hours a year at work. In Japan, however, people work about 2, 159 hours a year. That means a Japanese worker works 513 more hours a year than a French worker.

    Why do people work so many hours？Some people work extra hours because they want to make more money. However, many companies don't pay overtime. Their workers don't get more pay for more work. Some people think it's their duty to work more hours. Some are afraid of losing their jobs if they don't work more hours.

    Many people say that their vacations are too short. In France, people get five weeks of paid vacation a year. In Germany, they get four to six weeks, and in the United States, two weeks. One study shows fewer than half of workers used all their vacation days. In Great Britain, there is a saying, "All work and no play makes Jack a dull(迟钝的) boy. "If that is true, there must be a lot of dull people in the world.

    One rainy evening I went to fill up at the gas station. A poor boy came up to my car and asked me for money to help him and his mother{#blank#}1{#/blank#}in their hotel for another week. Having worked in social services before, and being a little skeptical (怀疑的) , I asked why his mother hadn't asked social{#blank#}3{#/blank#}for help. Weeks before, a boy asked me for money and I told him I didn't have any though I did because I didn't believe him.{#blank#}7{#/blank#}, I knew the boy was really poor. "This time," I thought, "I'll do it{#blank#}8{#/blank#}." I went to my bank and got $20, then I returned to the gas station. The boy was {#blank#}9{#/blank#}there. I handed him the $20 bill. He reached through my car window and gave me a{#blank#}10{#/blank#}hug. His hug told me all I needed to know was that finally this kid could get out of the rain.

Hi, I'm Gina. In February, 2018 my mother had a yard sale. During the sale, she had a conversation with a young girl called Nancy, for they had a common interest in some books she had for sale. They enjoyed their conversation so much that they exchanged their phone numbers. Later they became friends and got together a few times. When my mom moved into her new house, she had a family dinner and invited Nancy and introduced her to my brother. Five months later Nancy married (结婚) my brother.

In 2018, there was another special "yard sale" that I'll never forget. One day, after work from school, I found one of my neighbors had a lot of things out in their front yard with cars and people everywhere. I ran to the yard at once and wanted to find some good cheap things too before everything good was gone. But then I found out it wasn't a yard sale. On September 5, 2022, when an earthquake hit Luding, Sichuan, a 28-ycar-old hydropower station (水电站) worker Gan Yu chose not to leave but stay at his workplace. saving villages from being damaged. People think he is a hero like Lei Feng. but he doesn't feel that he should be compared to the young hero. "Lei Feng is a role model to all Chinese young people. The things he did may seem small. but behind them was a great quality that we can all achieve." he said. 

Zeng Qiangfei, 24, is also from Sichuan. In 2013, when an earthquake happened in his hometown, he was studying in a middle school. Zeng remembered seeing rescuers (救援者) and volunteers gather there to help. When he grew up, he became a volunteer himself. After a terrible quake hit Turkey and Syria this year, he flew there to help. During the course, he always saw local people bowing quietly to volunteers like them. "I grew up listening to Lei Feng's stories. He is an excellent young man who tried his best to help others." said Zeng. 

This view is shared by a 56-year-old British man named James Elroy Edginton, who lives in Hunan. the hometown of Lei Feng. Working at a local college. Edginton volunteers to help students from poor families. and is warmly regarded as a "foreign Lei Feng". "I am glad to be connected with the spirit of Lei Feng. His qualities are borderless (无国界的) ." he said.

Karachi, Pakistan, is one of the hottest cities on Earth. In June 2015, more than 1,000 people died there during a heatwave(持续高温天气)." It was so 1 !" said Shahzad Qureshi, a local person." We need to do something about it!"

 After the heatwave, Qureshi 2 . He set up an organization named Urban Forest to plant native trees in Karachi. Trees help 3 the air by providing shade and releasing moisture(水分) through their leaves. According to the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency, trees can help lower summer temperatures in cities by 1 to 5℃.

 For its first project, Urban Forest planted 1,300 trees in a local 4 . The group used a special way that helped the trees grow 5 . In just three years, the trees were nine meters tall. Qureshi 6 that one day, the park will become a forest of 50,000 trees.

 Qureshi and his team have now helped cool the air in Karachi by planting 12 forests in the city. The trees also provide a 7 for all kinds of animals and food for the local people. And they create a shady and 8 place for people.

 In 2017, Qureshi helped to plant a forest at Karachi Grammar School." The students were excited about the 9 ," said Muneeza Shaikhali, the school's headteacher." They themselves have been experiencing the high temperatures during the summer months."

 The trees attract birds and colorful butterflies. Students go outside during science class to study the 10 ." It's like a library of native trees for the kids," says Qureshi." It's really a wonderful thing to see."
